The Eurovision 2024 season is now in full swing and no doubt fans will have the songs from this year’s contest on repeat until we crown a winner in May. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests – they’re still bringing us a lot of new music to enjoy.
Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.
Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs and music videos released recently by Eurovision stars.
New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 11 part 2
With so many new songs this week, we’ve split the roundup into two smaller articles. You can find part 1 here.
We Are Domi – “Love Every Part Of It”
Self-love and independence are the central themes of We Are Domi’s new single. “Love Every Part Of It” discusses leaving the pressures of society behind and instead enjoying time by yourself: “I can sing any song from the top of my lungs / Then have a breakdown / Oh god that sounds fun / Get out of my way / Cause I’m just with myself / And I love every part of it.” Musically, Czechia’s Eurovision 2022 trio continue their electro pop styling.
Tamta – “Allo Ti Leo”
Tamta has shared a music video for her latest single, “Allo Ti Leo” (“What Else Can I Say?”). The ballad mixes strings with a growing electronic accompaniment. Lyrically, Cyprus’ Eurovision 2019 star thinks about everything she’s hiding inside because of the people around her. But as the song builds, Tamta gains the confidence to be herself and to speak up: “Now I say ‘Enough’, when I’m close to the end / Now I throw away every lie / Now I say I’m finally something / I don’t fear love / Now what I say is what I want.” These words mark a fitting conclusion to the end of her 2023 album, Identity Crisis.
João Maia Ferreira feat. CONAN OSIRIS – “Gárgulas”
Eurovision 2019 act CONAN OSIRIS is in high demand at the moment. After last week’s collab with Nuno Ribeiro, this week the Portuguese star has teamed up with João Maia Ferreira for “Gárgulas” (“Gargoyles”). CONAN tries his hand at rapping, providing the second verse, and also delivers the sung outro: “You’re angry because I ran to make you crawl / Whenever you hear my name, you’ll wilt / Be careful, the gargoyles smell your sorrows / They are capable of hunting you.”
Laura Tesoro – “Gravity”
Liefde voor Muziek (English: Love for Music) is back on TV screens in Belgium for its 10th season. Based off the Dutch programme Beste Zangers, it sees several artists get together and perform covers of each other’s songs. The 10th season is a special one featuring nine returning acts who have all previously been on the show before. Eurovision 2016 star Laura Tesoro previously participated on season five in 2019. The premiere episode of this new season was centred around DJ and record producer Regi Penxten. Laura decided to take on his hit “Zwaartekracht”, but transformed it into an English-language, chilled pop track titled “Gravity”.
Malik Harris & Mi Casa – “WHO CARES”
Germany meets South Africa in this international collaboration. Eurovision 2022 act Malik Harris has joined forces with Johannesburg-based trio Mi Casa for “WHO CARES”. It’s a funk song that will quickly get listeners dancing along. And that’s exactly what the artists want, encouraging us to ignore other people’s judgements and to let loose whenever we want: “Who cares / ‘Cause I’m not here for them / Feel the awakening, I can feel it rushing […] I came here to dance / I may look like a fool / But I don’t care.”
Anggun & Mario Pelchat – “Quand il s’en va”
Anggun, France’s Eurovision 2012 representative, has released a new duet alongside Canadian singer Mario Pelchat. Titled “Quand il s’en va” (“When he leaves”), it’s a classic chanson with strong vocal delivery from the pair. In the lyrics, Anggun and Pelchat sing of a dwindling love. However, they note this might be the best thing that could happen: “But I would do anything / To rekindle the shine / So that my desire for you returns / Love sometimes has to die like this / Maybe to come back better / When he leaves.”
Sofi Marinova – “Cak Cak” (with Roksana) & “S orkestar sabudi me” (with Malina)
Sofi Marinova has a couple of new collaborations for us. This week’s offering is “Cak Cak” with fellow Bulgarian signer Roksana. The pair deliver a fun turbo folk track with plenty of traditional instrumentation. To open the song, Roksana and Sofi announce they don’t need great wealth or fortune to live happily: “Donald Trump’s money? / No, no – what are they for? / To live on the Champs-Elysées? / No, no – I’m fine here! / To be a star in Hollywood? / No, no – they know me here too!” Instead, the duo are ready to hit the town and enjoy life to the fullest: “I forbade sleep / Tell the DJ / I go out to live.”
Bulgaria’s Eurovision 2012 star has also recently featured on Malina’s new song “S orkestar sabudi me” (“Wake me up with an orchestra”). Marinova provides the intro as well as ad-libs during the final chorus.
Michael Rice – “Because of You”
Michael Rice has taken a trip over the Atlantic and recently auditioned for American Idol. The UK star sang a rendition of Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You”, dedicated to his late father. All three judges were spellbound by Michael’s emotional performance, rewarding him with a ticket to the next round. You can add Michael’s cover to your playlist, because the Eurovision 2019 alum has released it onto streaming platforms for us all.
ZOË, Marc Korn & JAMYX – “Les Enfants Du Vent”
Eurovision 2016 alum ZOË is taking us to the club with her latest collaboration. She’s provided vocals for the new track by Austrian music producers Marc Korn and JAMYX. The production of “Les Enfant Du Vent” (“Children of the Wind”) mixes EDM beats with a Celtic-style instrumental break part way through.
Jóhanna Guðrún – Föstudagslögin, Vol. 2
Jóhanna Guðrún is continuing a weekly release of cover songs alongside musician Halldór Gunnar. The Icelandic star’s EP — Föstudagslögin, Vol. 2 — now contains four songs, with the latest addition being a cover of Beyoncé’s “Halo”. The Eurovision 2009 participant has also put her voice to renditions of Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open”, Snow Patrol’s “Run”, and The Cranberries’ “Zombie”.
Ginani Romano & Emanuele Esposito feat. Tim Schou – “Possibilities & Harmonies”
Italian music producers Gianni Romano and Emanuele Esposito have released a joint EP, titled SQNIZZ. The first song on the record is “Possibilities & Harmonies”, which features vocals from Denmark’s Eurovision 2011 singer Tim Schou. The afro house tune has a laid back feel to it, making it a good choice for those looking to chill out.
Eric Papilaya – “Beat That Feeling”
Eurovision 2007 alum Eric Papilaya is here to get you moving your body. The Austrian singer serves up an electro funk vibe with his new single “Beat That Feeling”. Eric believes there’s nothing better than groovin’ to an infectious tune: “Can you beat that feeling? / Pull it off and have us dancing on the ceiling / Can you beat that feeling? / Pull it off and shake the floor until we’re reeling to the sound.”
Sirusho – “Bats Erknqi Tak”
Sirusho’s latest single is the emotional ballad “Bats Erknqi Tak”. Armenia’s Eurovision 2008 star is accompanied by soft percussion and occasional backing vocals. Translating in English as “Under Open Sky”, Sirusho sings of a person who broke up with her. She wonders why her love wasn’t enough for them: “Under the open sky, where the stars always burn / Where the rain always pours / Now I’m crying / In the open air: right here you left me / Decide here, we are not important to you / Me and my love.”
Jendrik – “I Can’t Explain It I ♥️ U”
Jendrik and his partner Jan have had to do things long distance at times over their relationship. Despite this, their love still prevails and they’ve now been together for seven years. Germany’s Eurovision 2021 representative believes their relationship works because they’re both willing to metaphorically build a boat and put the effort in. Jendrik takes this theme and uses it for the music video of “I Can’t Explain It I ♥️ U”, where you’ll see him physically building a boat. “Though you are there and I am here / Your lips, your dimples make every fibre in me cheer / I want to grab you, want to hold you, and there’s more I wanna do / I want to scream into your face / I can’t explain it I love you.”
Fabri Fibra feat. Emma & Baby Gang – “In Italia 2024”
Here’s one we missed from a few weeks ago. Italian rapper Fabri Fibra originally had a hit with “In Italia” back in 2008. Now, he’s updated the song with a 2024 version. This new rendition features Eurovision 2014 star Emma, as well as Baby Gang. Although it’s an update, the message of the song remains the same. Fibra criticises the slow progress that Italy has made over the years and how the country is reluctant to change with the times — considering it’s been 16 years since the original, this message feels even more stark in 2024. Emma provides the chorus: “There are things that no one will tell you / There are things that no one will give you / You were born and died here, you were born and died here / Born in the land of half truths.”
Which of these new songs is your favourite? Have we missed out on any? Do you have any artists you want to shout out to? Let us know in the comments.
