In her song “Somebody Like You”, Daria Kinzer tells us that she’s hurting. It may be because she finished 15th in her semi-final at Eurovision 2011 when representing Croatia. To help heal those wounds she’s entered a song into this year’s national selection in Switzerland. That’s right people: Croatia may be out, but Daris is totally in (a national selection contest).
“Somebody Like You” is a sugary ballad about a woman mourning the loss of her guy. She tells us repeatedly that “it’s burning.” We’ll assume she’s talking about the pain in her heart. A burning sensation anywhere else would be nasty, y’all. The number is a lot more down-tempo that her 2011 number “Celebrate”. If she makes the cut in La Suisse we’ll hope she leaves the dodgy magician at home this time.
Switzerland appears to be this year’s refuge for all those aspiring Eurovision contestants whose countries are not participating in Eurovision in May. Besides Daria, we know that Poland’s Gosia Andrzejewicz, who previously played the accordion on the Eurovision stage, is also giving Switzerland a go.
Daria Kinzer, who danced like no other at the first semi-final afterparty at EuroClub in 2011, remains one of our most beloved Eurovision stars ever. So much so that we even named a category after her in our annual Valentina Monetta Awards (VMAs). Can you guess which one?

Showcases her voice nicely 🙂 But bland song…
The song is alright – it could use some better production. It’s nice to see the “Break a Leg” songstress back in action! 🙂
Samo, I think you answered your own question… It’s probably much easier to win in Switzerland than elsewhere, precisely because the competition isn’t so strong.
Is it just be or when artist’s in other countries withdraw they always head for Switzerland? It happen in 2012 when Magdalena Tul tried to represent Switzerland after Poland withdrew. She represented Poland in Eurovision 2011. Now it is Daria’s turn, she too represented Croatia in 2011. Why does everyone choose Switzerland as their Eurovision launching pad when they have such a poor record in the contest?
