In recent days everyone has called Melodifestivalen 2014 as a race between two ladies: schlager diva Sanna Nielsen and up-and-comer Ace Wilder. Well, the Swedish public and an international jury have now spoken and Sanna has won #melfest with her song “Undo”. After years of near misses, it proved to be 7th time lucky for Miss Nielsen. Looks like you’ve finally “undone her sad”.

Ace won the jury vote with 97 points to Sanna’s 90. At this point we were fairly certain that Ace was going to take it. Surely her momentum on Spotify and iTunes meant that the public would back her. We thought her daring and off-kilter effort would alienate the jury more than the televoters. But we were proven wrong when Sanna won the televoting with 122 points to Ace’s 113. That meant that overall Sanna finished just two points ahead of Ace.

This is the narrowest margin of victory ever recorded at Melodifestivalen. That record was previously held by Martin Stenmarck. In 2005 he defeated Nanne Grönvall by just three points. According to Expressen, the different in televotes was slightly more than 5,000—again, the lowest margin in the contest’s history.

To me, ”Undo” is a good song but it sounds like an X Factor UK winners’ single. If the UK had sent that song it would probably be sung by someone like Sam Bailey, who won X Factor. But Anyway, Is it good enough to win Eurovision 2014? I don’t know. I would love Sweden to win again in the future, as it is my favourite country in the world!!!!

Sweden lost its way for winning.Oh well… Helena was the best choice. She had everything-THE VOICE,PERFOMANCE AND EMOTION.She could win ESC with “Survivor”.Also Alcazar or Linus were good enough for winning melodifestivalen. But don’t get me wrong,I like “Undo” but it just can’t win ESC 🙂

What? Only 2 points differences? Wow this is the toughest Melodifestivalen for sure. I think whoever wins between Ace Wilder and Sanna Nielsen, both are deserving it. Both have their own segment which Sanna can bring class to Eurovision while Ace can bring modern sound and fun to Eurovision. Good for Sanna, after several tries and didn’t worked out. Good luck Sweden!

The more I listened to Ace’s song, the more I was rooting for her, even though I still expected Sanna to finish ahead of her. I expected Linus win, ahead of both of them, by riding the sentimental wave.

Nevetheless, good going for all 3. My 2nd pick won, my 3rd pick almost scored the upset, and Linus finished 5th. Who the hell was voting for Alcazar?

She turns generic and bland into classy ……. I am torn on this one, I have a feeling I would start falling in love with “Undo” after a few more listens.

I like this song, but it is certainly not going to win. This is a song that desperately needs to be played in a second half to get a large number of votes or it’ll just get lost amongst other songs.
It does remind me, that the last time Sweden didn’t send a dance song and was in the first half of a semi, they didn’t qualify. I don’t think that will happen this year, but you never know with that soviet bloc dominating there.

So much complaining… cheer up, guys. Your favorite can’t always win. Ace did well nonetheless. Melodifestivalen this year was much better than it was last year. The competition was extremely strong. And talk about an unpredictable vote – I thought for sure that my prediction that Sanna would win was going to be wrong after Ace Wilder performed and won the jury vote! Maybe some people accidentally voted for Yohio instead because she still wore 7 on her shirt. Either way, she sang really well in the final, so I was pretty surprised by the televoting outcome. Any of the… Read more »

Instead of going for something that has an international appeal and would have done well in the contest, they choose an outdated, D-Grade ballad. Hope you enjoy your moment of happiness because this will be 2010 all over again. Hahaha, I can’t wait to rip into the fans when this flops in Denmark.

I’m happy for Sanna but Ace would’ve been more daring. Ace is youthful and frolic, Sanna is a little bit too dowdy. That’s why I was rooting for Ace Wilder, I’m sad for her

T – Albania’s song could be the definition of a dramatic ballad…..

sopon

@T

Albania is a power ballad. Her voice is not a dull, quiet voice at all. The difference between power ballads and regular ballads are more intense instrumentation and vocals. A good (although overused) example of a power ballad is “Molitva”. Compare this with a standard ballad like “What If”.

The winner is the same schlager rubbish swedish acts try to smuggle into the Eurovision. I thought that since 2009 at least this practice had come to an end.

Sanna is the best choice by FAR! I mean, a nice and STRONG song with a beautiful VOICE, Sanna gave her heart tonight and Sweden gave her their votes.

I don’t like Ace Wilder at all, she seems to copy Avril Lavigne style, and also she had weak vocals and a messy performance, did you realize most of the sound was from backsingers?

LOVE YOU SANNA!

@Robyn As I said, there are so few power ballads in this year’s set compared to that of other years. This should stand out. The only others are Albania and Spain. You can add UK in there if you want, it’s borderline. Let’s analyze them: Albania: Yes, I am going to be a bit biased towards Albania because I have been in love with Hersi since December. She has a strong chorus and bridge, although the verses are a bit weak. The instrumentation is unique, and I like how FiK uses strings more than any other NF. Her voice is… Read more »

Everyone complained when Saade won in 2011. ”He can’t sing”, ”He only won because of his looks” and ”silly lyrics.” Yes, the lyrics may have been silly but he ended up 3rd, who would’ve guessed that? Wiwibloggs readers have shown more than one time that they can’t predict how the outcome in Eurovision will be.

I love the both of them. I feel glad and sad whether either one won. Ace I’ve been listening to for the past couple of days, but Sanna since first performance and everyday since. I would love to do a cover of both of them.

I’m pretty sure that Ace lost the televoting because she won the jury vote. People voted for Sanna more because she was in second place and that’s why she won.

the last time sweden sent a slower song to eurovision (in 2010) they didn’t even make it to the finals, and I suspect this will also happen this year. undo is not a bad song but it’s just terribly unoriginal. bröder was also a ballad but it had much more power and was catchier than undo.

This will not flop and Sweden will do fine this year. If Robin came 14th last year then this will do better because this is way better. Last time we had such a powerful ballad like this was Serbia 2007. If ballads like Russia 2013 and Norway 2008 can crack the top 5, so can this. People here just like to complain. Wiwibloggs readers are never satisfied no matter what the result is lol.

A bit disappointed, but satisfied enough. Ace lost by only 2 points, and while she lost, I’m glad she made it that far and only lost by a few points as she was an underdog at first. I’m also glad it wasn’t a landslide victory. We have a serious lack of power ballads this year, with only Albania, Spain, Sweden, and the UK providing them (and Spain’s isn’t even that good). Even if they aren’t bringing a pop song, at least they are picking up the slack from the other countries and bringing a good song to the table (and… Read more »

I’m reading all those comments all over again (firstly on the Spanish thread) – she has the voice, she has the voice, she has the voice. When will people realise that beside JUST the voice, the SONG is what matters. Well, again, goodbye Sweden, Sanna you may be a lovely person (or whatever), but your song…I might mute it.

Honestly I couldn’t believe at first that the juries were giving their top marks to Ace Wilder. I was so relived when the televote did what was fair. I still don’t understand how Ace Wilder did so good. At least my prediction was right and Sanna won. Linus made the top 5 as I predicted as well.

People in Sweden want Sanna to win . If Ace get more points from Germany and Malta these countires gave her only 1 points from 24 , 1 point from Malta and 0 from Germany she will be the winner.
