San Marino crashed out of Eurovision 2015 on Thursday night, but Michele Perniola made sure they didn’t go quietly. During Måns Zelmerlöw’s performance of “Heroes” for Sweden, the “Chain of Lights” singer tweeted:

A mini Twitter storm ensued, and even his singing partner, Anita Simoncini, weighed in:

“Ohibò” translates as “tsk, tsk” or “tut, tut”, but it’s unclear whether the Peppermint was admonishing Måns or Michele. Either way, it looks like someone else had a word with the former Junior Eurovision star, as he later backtracked on his initial claim.

Michele’s “joke” arose again during the second semi final press conference when an Italian journalist asked Måns to respond. The Melfest winner swatted away the accusations:

I don’t think so, no. We’ve had this discussion earlier and I don’t think that they are alike. Maybe the build-ups are alike, but I think when it comes to… if you analyse the tones, I don’t think there are two tones following each other that are the same actually, so I can’t see how it could be plagiarism then. But I’m sorry he feels that way.

You can watch his full response below.

Måns Zelmerlöw “Heroes” – Second Rehearsal

David Guetta “Lovers On The Sun”

What do y’all think? Is there merit to Michele’s comments or is it just a case of sour grapes? The chain of shade continues.

They sometimes wait a long time for the items they want to show up
in the Auction House. My only grievance is that it should have come with a ‘new Wo – W gamers’
section instead of having to fumble around for the beginners methods.

The deed is done and you should be able to profit handsomely.

@Thanos, Just take the fact that David Guetta released his song long time after Måns song was made. Måns text writers left it to SVT in february 2014. David released his song in June and got popular end of august 2014.

AND David Guettas song “Lovers on the sun” is a plagiat from Avicii!

Just deal with it!

It really is a plagiarism.Guess some people here do not know the difference between doing same style music (or being inspired by it) and exactly copying it. This is what this song is about. I didn’t really need to check comments section for this to remind me of exact song the first time I had listened to it. Even if it is not plagiarism still this song is just a cheesy generic pop that happens to be so popular in airing year (like all of swedish entries). For me Belgium is exactly like that also (though not plagiarism) and I… Read more »

Just so you know! Måns “heroes” was made long time before David Guettas song was even released. The deadline to contribute songs to Melodifestivalen was made 1 of april 2014. David Guettas released his “Lovers in the sun” in mid of june 2014. And the first time I heard David Guettas song was that a like it is Aviciis songs “Wake me up” and “Hey Brother” and the sound is very Avicii. Ofcourse David was influenced of Aviicis hits. But that is pretty much was DJ:s are doing. Beeing influenced and take parts of other already well knowed songs. So… Read more »

@ WTF

Sorry Now I did my research and lovers on the sun was released back in june of 2014 and Heroes surfaced in February of 2015 so where your coming from with this idea that heroes was the song that was copied is a joke. Now im not taking away from the song itself I love it but there are glaringly obvious similarities between the songs

And no one is complaining that Belgium’s song entry is similar to Lorde’s Royals? many Belgium fans are spreading lies that Lorde’s producer(Joel Little)/team helped make it. Juries are probably gonna let that song win instead. Don’t be surprised when another plagiarism issue arises….

He was just joking! If you look hard enough, every song has similar parts to some song that has been written in the past. That is just what happens when the world has been making songs for hundreds of years!
In the international age of the internet, we have access to a greater variety of music so it is easier to see cases of “plagarism” than ever before.

Anyone who sings a song like ‘light a candle’ should not be taken seriously. The San Marino song is an atrocity.

If it was actually plagiarism, Guetta would have sued and the song would have been taken down, like it indeed happened with his first snowman.
It is understandable that the songs are similar, it’s a common phenomenon among songs of the same genre in the modern music industry, nothing new here. It’s also true that no matter how original you may think something is, everything takes inspiration from a preceding work.
Mans will win tomorrow, might aswell deal with it.

I simply can’t understand the whole Mans loving. That guy is nothing but fake. He’s homophobic and all but authentic. I prefer people authentic and true.

On topic: So many songs are copies. The song of belgium is a first class copy of Lorde’s Royals. But Europe likes that obviously.

Ah yes, the accusations that come by every year and make people accuse an entry of being a “plagiat” despite the fact that “plagiat” is not an English word… LOL. Enough already. The songs share similarities, but calling it plagiarism is taking it too far. Is “Lovers on the Sun” a “plagiat” of Juno Reactor’s “Pistolero” then? Where does it end?

Few weeks ago, It started a song in a Radio of here (Brazil), and I thought it was “Heroes” from the beginning, but it was David Guetta’s one. “Heroes” is pretty similar to “Lovers of the sun”, even not being a plagiarism. And we know from where he had the idea of the performance. But when it comes about Swesen, it seems that everything is okay, and everybody loved both performance and song. It’s weird, ‘cuz last year a lot of people was saying that Tanja’s song and performance were a copy of Euphoria, even both songs are not similar,… Read more »

The chorus reminds me actually of ‘Rhythm of the night’ by Corona.

‘This is the rhythm of the night,
the night, on yeah’

‘We are the heroes of our time,
Oh whoa, oh whoa’

The notes of the melody progress in a bit different direction, but the rhythmic pattern is identical. I’m not sure if it’s enough to make the case of plagiarism, but there you go!

Michele didn’t “accuse” anybody and didn’t use the word “plagiarism”, but I like how Mans immediately gives a very juridical argument during the press conference: “There aren’t two tones following each other that are the same, so it cannot be plagiarism”. You can clearly see that they had lawyers look into it, cause they know it’s obviously similar…

Btw, I don’t know about other countries, but here in Switzerland, Mans’ past comments about homosexuals “not being natural” is all over the news.

If you listen to Safura’s “Drip Drop” and Marija’sMolitva e.g. Safura: Can I love you forever, Marija: Molitvaaaaa, Safura: Can I trust in you, Marija: Molitvaaaa. There you will see they are just same apart from lyrics, another example is Chiara “Angel” the chorus is same as “power of love” why didn’t they accuse them!
