France, Alma, 1

En direct! For the first time in history the Eurovision Song Contest, the grand final is hitting the big screen. Cinemas across France will broadcast the finale of Europe’s favourite TV show live on May 13 at the same time as the broadcast goes out to television screens across Europe.

Eurovision France has been teasing a big announcement across its social media channels, but the news broke earlier today when 20Minutes journalist Fabien Randanne leaked the news on his Twitter page.

The agreement between France Televisions, Warner Music France and CGR Cinemas will see cinemas in 41 cities across France streaming the grand final simultaneously with the live TV broadcast.

That means Eurofans in France can grab their popcorn and cheer Alma on in surround sound, y’all! Just like the live broadcast, the show will start on the dot at 9:00pm CET.

Tickets are a little more reasonable than the prices you’ll pay to see the Grand Final live at the International Exhibition Centre in Kyiv. Whereas you can pay up to €500 for a ticket to the Grand Final, tickets to watch Eurovision 2017 at a CGR cinema will only set you back €8: Thrift is a gift!

Everyone attending a cinema show will receive a signed postcard from Alma – the chanteuse knows the importance of giving back to her fans.

Alma On Tour

She’s been hot on the promo trail in France and this week Alma takes things international.

Her first tour stop is at this weekend’s London Eurovision Party, where she’ll perform “Requiem” live alongside 24 other acts.

She’ll follow that up by appearing at Eurovision In Concert in Amsterdam on April 8 and will round things out by appearing in Madrid on April 15. From there we’ve little doubt Team France will be rehearsing hard before taking to the stage in Kyiv.

Yes, I watched the commercial for this!!! I love how they used Amir, it was beautiful!!! I died of a nostalgic attack. And here I am still worrying if it’ll be broadcast in the US! I still can’t rewatch the 2016 show for free, as it’s blocked on YouTube here…

@Blair,

You know that the journalists here do this as a part time occupation free of charge. I understand that other countries need coverage, but if you’re working or studying you might only take note of the big stories and not have the time to write about countries doing minor stops on the pre Eurovision circuit. Plus, this kind of broadcast is unprecedented (at least for a non host country, idk if what Sweden did last year counts?) while Timebelle visiting Serbia is typical of acts during this time.

I am living in Sweden but happy that France starts to take ESC seriously, much thanks to the good work by Edoardo Grassi. He send new promising talents with songs that really make them sparkle. Alma is a pleasant surprise and I hope and believe this will be the start of an international carreer. I am happy that Wiwibloggs supports her. The international promotion of new artists is one of the most important objectives with ESC. The other objective with ESC is that all EBC countries should join and enjoy themselves in peace. I am very critical if EBC allows… Read more »
