Three acts qualified for the grand final of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2024 last Saturday, and tonight we found out who will join these acts in Trondheim.

18 acts are battling it out to become Norway’s next Eurovision entry, and six of them competed in tonight’s semi-final 2 for three golden tickets to the grand final on 3 February.

And just as last Saturday, it were the three songs performing last in the semi-final, that got the coveted golden tickets.

Qualifiers from MGP semi-final 2

  • Farida – “Heartache” (out)
  • MILEO – “You´re Mine” (out)
  • Eli Kristin – “Touch Of Venus” (out)
  • Super Rob & Erika Norwich – “My AI” (qualified)
  • Dag Erik Oksvold and Anne Fagermo – “Judge Tenderly of Me” (qualified)
  • Gåte – “Ulveham” (qualified)

Did your favourites qualify? Were you surprised by the result? Let us know in the comments below.

She has a beautiful voice but I think she was too nervous. I think this is her first upbeat song. She needs to rehearse a lot more and perhaps to have a shot of alcohol before going on stage.

Apart from Oblivion which is great, no qualification this year from Norway so far. This last semi-final was not good at all. My AI is definitely a non-qualifier. Robots and Eurovision do not well work together, we have seen this several times at Eurovision.

Ulveham isn’t as immediate of a song as My AI. At least with My AI you either LOVE it or HATE it, a marmite effect that often works well at Eurovision.

Ulveham’s performance is very immediate though. Like it has this WOW effect that’s so difficult to create. My AI’s performance is mid at best.

It wasn’t for me. It seemed like the lead singer was just screaming and the audio levels compared to her voice and the rest of the music were unbalanced. I also fear they lack the ability to tell the song properly, whereas with My AI it’s spelt out for you so even the TikTok generation will understand it. So from that angle, Ulveham’s live performance was more mid. But for me i find that the worse or cringy a song is the more people remember them at Eurovision.

Gåte are first in the odds right now. I think the momentum is on their side after last night’s amazing performance. My AI has (rightfully) fallen in the odds a lot. The only threat for Gåte right now seem to be Keiino so we have to wait until their performance as well to make accurate predictions. But there’s a high possibility Gåte will win in Trondheim. P. S. I really wonder though what will the juries support. I don’t see them supporting My AI, Damdiggida or We Come Alive. Will Gåte be their thing? Or will Margaret win the jury… Read more »

Gåte are quite popular in Norway so it’s not really a surprise that they climbed to first place after an outstanding performance yesterday. They do have the momentum and given their popularity I think they are certainly the favourites right now to win the televoting in the final. I have no idea what the juries will vote for – “Oblivion” is the most jury-friendly song but their votes can go anywhere and I feel that Anne & Dag Erik might be a dark horse there. I don’t think that Keiino’s song is particularly jury-friendly since none of their previous entries… Read more »

I dont think Keiino can beat them. It will be between My AI and Ulveham in the final – Erica Norwich can sing, indicated by her 2020 performance but she will need to work on them for the final, which she CAN absolutely do. If Bejba can get round to singing for Eurovision, so can Norwich, who is more of a professional singer than Blanka. They can also polish the staging. With Gate, they have peaked, meaning you cant really make it better.

As a Norwegian I know what we love, people will go crazy for the robot.

Most Norwegians doesn’t watch the Semi-finals, but they tune in for the finals.

Gate’s song lacks the impact for Eurovision. Everyone loves it but wont vote for it. At Eurovision, ‘the marmite effect’ is what leads to entries like Cha Cha Cha, Give That Wolf a Banana and the Russian Grannies from 2012 doing well. Many people dislike or even hate the song but cannot mark it down because you cannot give minus points. This then benefits the lovers and as a result they turn out more passionately to support their act and then that acts ends up doing well with the televote as a result, so My AI might be the choice… Read more »

I’m disappointed that Mileo missed out. Okay, I do have doubts about the staging. Ironically, Judge Tenderly on me had more autotune than My AI. I’m a little sad that the general public doesn’t recognize artificial from true live vocals anymore.

Also very sad for Mileo, he had a great performance, a great fit, presence, and a good sense of black humor. If there is a wild card, I hope he gets a second chance.

I think some more pre/recorded backing vocals would help My AI and then Erica can focus purely on the characterization, which is coming across really well.

There is a big discussion whether this should have been allowed in the contest this year. We’re only in january, but already there are so many women having been killed by their ex partner this year. It’s the line that goes “where’s my girlfriend? I buried her, is that okay?” then goes on to say “well, she’s dead, but who cares anyway?” that have sparked some controversy. Some people feel like it is inappropriate regarding the recent murders ????? I see no issues in the song, but some do.

I think he could do better if he spoke Norwegian in the interviews, honestly. A lot of artists get massive support from their home towns. Mileo, despite being half Norwegian and having spent a lot of his upbringing in Oslo, choosing to only speak English, makes him feel foreign. We want a Norwegian to represent Norway. Alessandra was also half Norwegian, and grew up in Italia, but she was fluent in Norwegian, allthough with a charming Italian accent.

I’m so happy for Anne and Dag! I voted for them and they managed to beat the odds from the dead last place. Absolutely deserved spot in the final!

Judge Tenderly of Me going through is amazing. The classiest out of all performances tonight. It deserves a spot in the final.

I don’t understand the hate for Robot song… it’s good, it’s catchy and it definitely grabs attention. The only song I have on my playlist. Mind you – not everyone has to sing like Beyonce, come on, we had many entries we loved but could not sing for dear life such as Ivi Adamou, everyone was humming La La La Love.

Me too! I love the song but Erica needs to polish her vocals A LITTLE. Love her attitude and the story though.

In my dreams:
– Margaret gets the jury vote
– Keiino and My Ai get the televote
– Gåte has enough points in both to snatch the victory

in my dream, the televote doesn’t have the worst possible taste. Dare to dream!

My AI in the final sees Erica polish her vocals and better staging leading to the juries giving it a bit more points but then it EASILY LANDSLIDES the televote.

Gåte is winning the public vote in Norway for sure! You have no idea how big they are here obviously. And they have a great song as well!!!

I like it but something is missing. And live it appeared like there was a bit of screaming. Norway does it best in my opinion when their song tells a story.

(I’m booked to sing next weekend, so my commentary on Semi 3 might not be possible. It depends on timings.)

The country song was a snoozefest. My AI? I’d rather be in a car crash than a train that lasts forever.
