In our last poll four more countries — Malta, Norway, Ukraine and Spain — joined the Eurovision 2024 mix, bringing songs that span dance, folk-metal and solemn prayer pop. But none of them managed to knock Ireland’s Bambie Thug from the top spot.

Once again “Doomsday Blue” is our readers’ favourite Eurovision 2024 song so far.

Bambie Thug — the enchanting non-binary artist flying the Irish flag — earned 1,413 votes — or more than 21% of all those cast. Their unique form of “ouija pop” has proven polarising. But as we always say, it doesn’t matter who dislikes you at Eurovision — what matters is who loves you and will pick up the phone to vote.

We see this divisiveness in our comments section of the original voting post.

MaxESC wrote:

Bambie Thug’s performance live on a real stage will mesmerise fans and people will want to vote the entry above other entries. There will be those who don’t like it and that is fine as you can’t downvote and if anything that will just encourage fans of Bambie to vote more. Bambie already has proved somewhat polarising in Ireland but they have managed to win more and more fans with their infectious positivity and charisma.

It’s crap. And the vibe they are going for was done 100 times better by Finland last year. In an ordinary year I would doubt it reaching the final but as their are fewer entries this year and the standard has taken a nosedive, it’ll scrape in.

Well this much is clear: Bambie Thug has Europe talking!

The next three places in our poll are occupied by new arrivals: Norway’s Gåte debut at #2, while Ukraine’s power duo Jerry Heil & alyona alyona come in at #3. Spain’s Nebulossa — who reached #2 on the Spotify Global Viral Top 50 this week — placed fourth in our poll.

Malta’s Sarah Bonnici — the other new entrant this week — placed eighth of the ten acts.

Doomsday blue is actually a cool song and it’s original. There’s no need to be rude to them in the comments. Doomsday may not be a winning song but it’s a step forward for Ireland. Moving away from radio pop songs that never succeed. Eurovision isn’t as formal as it used to be and its just how it is and maybe even for the better!

My opinions on these entries. Hope I won’t get downvoted into oblivion. 1. Ireland. My favourite so far. Reminds me of the mixtures of pop and nu-metal that were popular in 2010s: Poppy, Babymetal, etc. The repetition of “blue” really sells the energy in my opinion and Bambie’s vocals are great. Wish them luck! 2. Norway. A great ethnic entry with very pleasant instrumentation. The vocals sound very mysterious: like a siren luring a sailor to the shore. I suppose I may like it even more when the translation of the lyrics would be available. 3. Zorra. A fun and… Read more »

The reality is,entry’s like this are the result of 100% televoting returning all be it the semi final, and we can expect more of the same in years to come reducing eurovision once more to a joke.
Ireland unable to come up with a good song to qualify.can attempt to tap into a left wing agenda with this entry helped along of course by the semi final televoting the music aspect is irrelevant or how bad this is.it sells an agenda, end of.

William makes a good point here. Sometimes the most polarising songs do really well at Eurovision, simply because public points only count towards songs that people like, not dislike. So a song can be widely disliked, but in terms of points this counts for nothing at Eurovision. If just as many people vote for the song, it can still do well. N.B. This was especially the trend in the mid 2000s, when juries were kicked out for a while in favour of a televoting-only approach. We don’t have the same rules now, but I suppose mathematically there are more public… Read more »

What have we learned the last years? Wiwi-polls don’t have anything to do with ESC-live shows and voting. So cool down 😉 Out of the current 10 entries,
IRELAND is my favourite. Baby Thug will deliver, they already has proved.
Still having CZECHIA’s entry in my ears. Would rank it higher, but the live performance was really bad. Hope, she’ ll improve. My Nr 2 is UKRAINE followed by Slovenia, France and Spain. Spain, as it is catching the audiance though a thin voice.

Irish fans are definitely not delusional. You are delusional if you think Irish fans are delusional! Irish fans have not got behind an act like this in a long time because they are not delusional about where Ireland is a Eurovision competitor. Irish fans have been heavily critical annually of the RTE process and of‘safe’ songs being picked. Bambie Thug is going to qualify thanks to views like this. We all know Bambie Thug is a decisive entry and that will work in their favour. Bambie will have a lot of backers for the semi- those who are supporting them… Read more »
