Fans and delegations are all counting the days until Eurovision 2024 rehearsals commence. One of the most anticipated entries at this year’s contest is Joost Klein‘s “Europapa”. The Dutch hitmaker will close the second semi-final.

Earlier, it was revealed that Gover Meit will stage the Netherlands’ Eurovision act. The mysterious comedian and stage director kept silent for a long time on the act, claiming that if he saw the staging, he would likely leak it to the media.

After months of radio silence from the Dutch delegation, Meit has now given television programme Shownieuws a few titbits about the staging of Joost Klein’s “Europapa.”

“People will not believe that it is physically possible.” Meit said. “It is going to be a new form of the Moon landing. It has never been done before.”

Joost Klein climbs with bookies during pre-party season

While last year’s Dutch act had a less favourable pre-party season, Joost Klein has only gone up since performing his song live.

The Frisian-born musician showcased his entry in front of his home crowd at AFAS Live on 12 April. A day later, he flew out to Stockholm’s pre-party.

As a result, “Europapa” now sits comfortably as third favourite in this year’s betting odds next to other favourites Switzerland and Croatia.

After his official music video received millions of views within the first days after its release, and his song broke local Spotify records, Joost received the producer’s pimp slot for the second semi-final. This also means that his performance will be one of the last ones to be revealed to the press.

What are you expecting from Joost Klein’s “Europapa” staging? Do you think that the Dutch star can go all the way? Let us know in the comments down below!

we know in the Netherlands Gover Meit isn’t always serious, but unfortunately the international press is translating everything he says literally. He was punished by the rest of the team because he used the metaphor ‘moonlanding. But it’s the way he is, always enthusiastic and we can’t blame him for it.

Creative Director Gover Meit said smiling on Dutch TV that he was punished by the rest of the team because he compared Joost his TV- performance with the metaphor moonlanding, but no one is able to control Gover I’m afraid.

Gover Meit on Dutch tv tonight: they’ve been working on staging for months and it’ll be a mix between Käärijä’s liveliness and Salvador Sobral’s gentleness.

Joost will be joined on stage by his long time friends YouTubers Martijn ‘Stuntkabouter’ van Eijzeren and Appie ‘Apson’ Mussa.

Street saying that Kaarija could appear in Joost performance…I don’t know if it’s right or wrong but definetely a good way to get televote points maybe… maybe Kaarija will transform into Joost on stage or vice versa, reference to “physically impossible”, we’ll see, answer in one week exactly.

Some Dutch ESC reporter floated that idea a while ago, I think that’s where that rumor started. Now I’d love to see Käärijä on stage with Joost, he has been very supportive of him right from the start when Joost started his campaign to be the Dutch entry, but I do fear a lot of people would call it a cheap trick to cash in on Käärijä’s popularity.

Already 9 articles about Joost here on Wiwibloggs and the rating for Netherlands is not even out, so that would be at least 10 articles for Joost,
and only 7 articles for Jerry Heil and alyona alyona,
and only 5 for Moldova.

I stick with my initial opinion. The message is nice, the song is of course fun and enjoyable but it’s also of very poor taste imo (and I insist on the imo). This song feels like an ode to cheesiness to me and as I know public will probably rank this first, I sure do hope juries will do their job and make sure this song doesn’t win. I’m not against a bit of fun in the contest but I’m not in favor of letting songs like this winning the whole thing. It will just hurt the contest. Anyway, I… Read more »

I’m convinced that Joost will win.

Joost is simply so personable and likeable, his content, humour & music has a Gen-Z edge but it appeals to all ages. I can already imagine Joost in the winner’s lineup, it just feels right. If his staging is as spectacular as stated, I have no doubt he’ll storm the televote. This is the most exciting act of the year for me, alongside Switzerland & Greece.

I think this statement is a kind of joke to mock a bit this esc world, I mean come on, “never seen before””hard to believe it’s physically possible” “new form of the Moon landing” don’t you see the 2nd degree in that. But also it’s exactly what’s excites the fandom during the pre rehearsals and Twan and the dutch team knows that very well, they are marketing again and again and it works apparently, but Eurovision is not only about marketing so Joost has to really deliver too on stage and even more now that their marketing raises expectations…this marketing… Read more »

Remember 2021. Maneskin were accepted by the fans but there was something else topping the betting odds like Malta, Switzerland and France, and then the rehearsals happened and out of nowhere Italy’s chances grew up spectacularly. The juries favoured Gjon’s Tears and Barbara Pravi but people didn’t like seeing Destiny turned into a Lizzo wannabe while “Tout l’Universe” and “Voilà” were like many recent winners. “Zitti e buoni” won because it was different from the rest of songs that competed. Why do I say this? Because Joost is loved but it’s not considered the absolute favourite to win yet but… Read more »

Yeah, but it is hard to compare Maneskin and Joost. Maneskin did get enough jury points as they delivered a strong song, also vocally. Joost song is a gimmick, and he has no vocal abilities, in my opinion the worst vocalist of the year.

While BL vocal abilities are not perfect, at least he is singing a lot. Joost is not singing, rapping a part, and the most catchy part of the song is back track… Even his start of word “Euro” sounds horrible.

I’m glad they take risks. A song in Dutch even though it’s not the most beautiful language in the world, in stead of English lyrics to please the public, and probably innovative staging. It’s go big or go home.

It’s so stupid to judge Joost on his ability to sing a few notes on key. Lots of great artists aren’t necessarily great singers. Joost is a performer, he’s not a singer… not even really a rapper.

I see where that orginates but, sometimes, there is a premeditated consensus amongst juries. Sweden won last year with Loreen & Tattoo. Kaarija brought so much more than Loreen. Kaarija brought, charisma, character, fun, creativity, originality etc. Loreen even though she’s a true talent, all she had was a good vocal with a slightly above average song with faultless, extremely strong staging; so strong that it made the song weaker as it swallowed her. Jurors will always be jurors and will never give the dues to the “fun” songs that are quality that need the points over some songs that… Read more »
