Ukraine, Zlata Ognevich, 2

Another week, another set of Eurovision 2013 betting odds. Things at the top remain relatively stable, with Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands remaining the early favourites. But Ukraine’s Zlata Ognevich appears to be defying gravity. The Ukrainian beauty, who is currently performing very well in our search for Eurovision’s Next Top Model 2013, has moved passed Russia and Sweden to claim fourth position on the odds table. Germany, Italy, Georgia and Azerbaijan round out the Top 10. (Update: Since we published this post earlier this afternoon Ukraine’s Zlata has moved passed Holland’s Anouk into third position).

But don’t let the movement at the top blind you from what’s going on further down. This week’s biggest climber is San Marino’s Valentina Monetta. She’s leapfrogged from 21 on the table when we last checked in on March 19 all the way to 13. The second biggest climber was Belgium’s Roberto Bellarosa who has moved from spot 39 (yes, last) up seven places to 32. Romania and Spain have also climbed seven spots, moving to 28 and 27, respectively.

On the opposite side of things, Hungary’s ByeAlex is this week’s biggest loser. He dropped seven positions from 28th to 35th. Iceland fell six spots to 37, and Moldova fell five spots to 22.

Below you can see two charts. The first is a ranking compiled by averaging the odds from ten of Europe’s leading betting agencies. The numbers show odds from Bet365 and SkyBet, two of the ten agencies. The second chart shows how each contestant’s ranking has changed among the bookies from March 19 to March 31. They are listed in order of momentum. San Marino is tops for showing the greatest rise. Countries with a zero have not seen any change in position (hence Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands all have zeroes, despite being the front-runners). A negative number means the bookies have been losing a degree of faith.

Outside of Norway’s, Ukraine’s is the most overrated song this year. It’s still good, but if anything this just demonstrates that Ukraine can send a somewhat catchy song with a decent singer and do well for no reason other than being Ukraine. (Still scratching my head over the jury falling head over heels for Be My Guest last year, and Angel the year before that.) It makes no sense that Bulgaria is last in the betting odds… these same performers were top 5 in 2007 with an extremely discordant song, and this year’s is much, much catchier. I have to… Read more »

I think Zlata just has a lot of hype around her…female singers from Ukraine always tend to perform well in the Finals, but let’s not kid ourselves – she’s no Ani Lorak! I think Anouk will do well in that her song stands out from the other ballads, barring maybe Margaret Berger, and she’ll pick up plenty of points from the Western Europeans! I also really like Belgium’s song, and not sure why Ireland is rated so highly – song seems distinctly average and Ryan can’t deliver the vocals live!!

Don’t know how the bet stuff works but Zlata and Anouk got the same highest odd 14/1… so for me they are both 3rd. Zlata is a really good singer, no doubt about that, but the song is too Disney for me. It will absolutely be in the top 10 in the final. Most important for me is that Anouk makes the final. And also i think Belgium can make the final, why not?… Belgium also lucky that we(Netherlands) are in it. We always give each other points…still can’t understand why Greece and Armenia are so high.

She doesn’t sing… she yells and screams. Her backings ruin the song even more.

One of the worst entries this year. Very overrated just like Irelands song.
Her pronounciation is very bad, live on stage it won’t work because of the monkey-a-like-sounds her backings make. It just won’t make sense.

Well the odds reflect the fact that she can definitely win the competition this year and it wouldn’t even shock me if she won her semifinal.

Hot girl that can sing, mainstream song, with a confident and strong staging all of this is a recipe for success.

@eurana
I also can see Belgium making the final. The song is not as bad as the critics think.

Belgium can make the Grand Finale. I believe in Roberto Bellarosa. He is a good singer. Zlata is the Pastora Soler this year.

May I point something out? Zlata is only woman at Eurovision who can sing, besides Dina Garipova but her song is predicitble. I think Eurovision ’14 is in Kyiv no doubt. Jury love. People love. Zlata love!
