Earlier this afternoon RTVSLO confirmed that Slovenia will participate in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Here’s how they framed their decision:
After checking the interest in the project of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with advertisers and [considerthe fact that programming is related to the selection of the Eurovision Song Contest, high on popularity among listeners and viewers, the RTV Slovenia has decided to participate in the competition in 2014 . Details of the method of selection and participation of the Slovenian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest will be announced later.
This means that a total of 37 countries will compete in Eurovision this year. The EBU previously gave Slovenia an extension so that it could review its finances and determine whether participation would be possible. We’re so glad that it is!
It is not yet clear whether RTVSLO will stage a national selection or choose its singer internally. We suspect the latter: if money was a major issue going into this process, saving money will surely be on their mind moving forward. April, the Slovenian Lady Gaga, has hinted that she may be in consideration.
Hannah Mancini represented Slovenia at last year’s contest. You can watch our interview with her here, and relive her performance below. Despite some amazing dancing and a sexy black catsuit, she finished last in her semi-final.

@Alex: Try listening to what they had offered before 2007 (starting 1993). Personally I just hope and pray Slovenia will do their homework right and brainstorm their musical preferences to realise that a quality powerful entry like “No One” is what gives them credibility in the contest specially such a powerhouse vocalist like Maja Keuc, singers like these rarely shine in Eurovision… and not another average dance song like so many others everyone can hears in a club … Avoid the bizarre like in 2010 … and everything in between 1999 to 2010 … which remains as forgettable because I… Read more »
Slovenia has had some great entries, including last year. This is great news.
Great to hear Slovenia are on board.
Hope they select a great song.
Personally, I’d like to see a male performer represent them his year after several years of solo females …. maybe Omar Naber could return if he’s interested or one of the new emerging singers there.
Anyway …. whoever it is, hope they do well.
My fave Slovenian entries : 1997, 2005, 2011, 2002 & 1995
Slovenia & EMA!!!!!! EMA is a nice little added on surprise :)!
Almost forgot, it turns out there WILL be a return of the EMA national final this year. Roll on EMA 2014!
They need to BRING IT Maja Keuc style or not come.
I’ve liked every Slovenian entry since 2007, inclusive (although last year’s was a little weak), and I’m really glad they’re staying in the contest! 🙂
Woo-Hoo! Thank God my country is joining in the party at Copenhagen this year. Hvala (Thanks) RTVSLO!
Last’s year Slovenian entry was AWESOME (even though I felt sorry for Hannah :'( )!!!!
I like their entry…and I listen to the song all the time on my ipod. They should’ve went at least to the finals. It was a good song.
What a relief that Slovenia are still in. With Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria out (not that Bulgaria and Slovenia necessarily vote for each other) it will be harder than ever for them to reach the final, but I am optimistic that their entry will be great and enough to propel them forwards! Good luck!
I also loved Hannah and her song. And she was so sweet in Amsterdam!
Welcome back, Slovenia!
I actually loved their entry last year in Malmö.. Hope this year will get better
Yaaaaay 🙂
