It may have taken a few extra weeks, but Helena Paprizou and Linus Svenning have advanced to the final of Melodifestivalen 2014. The two acts outlasted six others to claim their Second Chance in tonight’s Andra Chansen. The rules for Andra Chansen were slightly different this year and contestants had to endure two rounds of voting followed by two duels. Let’s walk through the action together, shall we? Don’t slip on any sequins…tonight was an extravaganza of eleganza!
Round One Results
As usual, all eight acts performed and then the telephone lines were opened. The three acts with the lowest votes were eliminated. This included bookies favourite J.E.M. Apparently Swedish voters were not in the mood to pull the “Love Trigger”.
Ellinore Holmer—the girl with the pretty blue dress—also got the axe. Apparently her “En himmelsk sång” (A heavenly song) wasn’t heavnly enough.
Rock group Ammotrack brought their grungy look to the stage and asked all y’all to “Raise Your Hands”. You might have done that, but you did not raise your phone to cast a vote. They were kicked out too.
Round Two Results
The phone lines were reopened and Swedes were asked to vote for their favourite of the five remaining acts. These votes were added to the votes from the first round.
As the votes were counted Emmelie de Forest appeared on stage with some half-naked men to perform “Rainmaker,” the official anthem of Eurovision 2014. They looked amazing. She was OK too. We’re pretty sure DR has put her on some sort of diet since Eurovision, as she looks half the size she was in Malmö.
Then it was time for the results. Four acts would advance to the duels. Outrigger and Helena Paparizou were assigned to the first duel. Talk about beauty and the beast! (Yes, Helena is the pretty one).
After they performed their numbers again it was time to announce the second duel. (Yes, we had to wait for the results of the first duel. So annoying).
Three acts were left: Linus Svenning, Martin Stenmarck and State of Drama. All three of them were seriously nervous, y’all. Just look at this photo!
Linus was the first act to advance to the second duel. The second was Martin Stenmarck. State of Drama were rul, rul sad not to make the final for a second year in a row.
But they should be happy with a good performance. At least they know they’ll be in the Swedish iTunes charts tomorrow.
After Linus and Martin performed it was time for the results. Please note: The votes were re-set to zero during the duels. Everyone started fresh.
First Duel: Outrigger vs. Helena Paparizou
Beauty:
Beast:
Second Duel: Linus Svenning vs. Martin Stenmarck
Linus Svenning sand “Bröder” (Brothers) with images of his brothers in the background. Nice tats.
Martin Stenmarck performed “När änglarna går hem” (When the angels go home).
In the end victory went to Helena and Linus. We die with excitement!
Who do you think has a better shot in the final? Can either of them overcome YOHIO, Ace Wilder, Anton Ewald and the other qualifiers? Let us know below!

So sad Outtrigger didn’t make it. Such a shame they were in duel with Helena. Happy that Helena made it, but would love that Outtrigger got the second spot. We need more strong rock on ESC this year…
Oh man… Outtrigger was eliminated.. So sad
Helena nailed it last night! Well deserved!
Panetoz at #9 is not going to have much of an effect, I don’t think… I can’t see the international juries voting for them. It might give them some more points from the televoters, at least.
Basing on the three last MF, we have Ace, Helena and Panetoz winning.
At leasy the four songs that I want to win are in the second half
Helena!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOOOOOOO Why did they put Ellen in the death spot of the running order? Nobody does well from #2 in Melfest…
Also, they really want Sanna or Ace Wilder to win, huh? I thought Oscar might have a shot at winning, but not after being placed at #4. I’m not a fan of the back-to-back grouping of the two songs from Second Chance either – separate them!

Running order for the final:
1. Anton Ewald – “Natural”
2. Ellen Benediktson – “Songbird”
3. Alcazar – “Blame It On The Disco”
4. Oscar Zia – “Yes We Can”
5. Linus Svenning – “Bröder”
6. Helena Paparizou – Survivor”
7. YOHIO – “To the End”
8. Sanna Nielsen – “Undo”
9. Panetoz – “Efter solsken”
10. Ace Wilder – “Busy Doin’ Nothin’”
State of Drama were rul, rul sad not to make the final for a second year in a row.
I thought they were in final last year?
So happy for Helena, I hope she does well in the final!
I also wanted Outtrigger, so I had mixed feelings when they announced both Helena and them would be on the same duel, my two favourites! One would win but the other would be eliminated :c
As I thought, Outtrigger didn’t make it but at least I’m happy they were so close.
GOOO HELENA <3<3<3
YAYYYYYY!!! Helena made it through! Now lets see her get to go over that bridge to Copenhagen!
Do you notice when presenter sad that Martin go to TOP 5 , on screen they show song 3 JEM in red line .
ace wilder for win. if she gets similar jury points as sanna she will probably win the televoting.
Update: Ace Wilder is now #1 on the Spotify chart in Sweden. And that means a lot since like all of the Swedes have Spotify lol.
#12 Sanna Nielsen
#21 Anton Ewald
#22 Panetoz
#23 Linus Svenning
#24 Alcazar
#32 Oscar Zia
#85 Helena Paparizou
I’m ecstatic Linus made it, didn’t really like any other song so don’t mind Helena made it. In the final I’m rooting for Linus, Ellen, and Ace. I’m losing faith in my country if Yohio, Alcazar, Anton, or Helena win
Does the win still go to whoever has a computer doing the most automated voting?
Yohio won’t win. He was such a favorite last year but his song was way, way better than. His song this year hasn’t made much impact in the charts/radio here in Sweden. I think Sanna Nielsen will win, but don’t underestimate Ace Wilder. She will probably get a lot of points from the international juries and she’s 3rd (!!!) in the Spotify charts in Sweden. Sanna is at #12.
Haha, these were the same two I wanted to get through also. Outrigger would’ve been a great choice too, but there’s sadly only room for two.
Yeah! My two favourites went through! Helena and Linus really deserved it! Both were excellent. Helen, Sanna or Ellen two win it!
In final i predict TOP 4 with international juries
1.Sanna
2.Helena
3.Oscar
4.Ellen
TOP 4 in televote
1.Yohio
2.Anton
3.Oscar
4.Sanna
I think Sanna or Oscar Zia wil win at MF
I al very glad Helena and Linus made it to the final. In SF1 they were my favorites. Now in the final I wish them the best. I hope the winner is either Helena, Linus, Sanna or Alcazar. But my favorite is Helena.
I wanted Helena and awesome JEM. Oh well, I’ll still listen to their song. I hope Helena will win now.
Go Linus ?
JEM 🙁
Why did they put thw two best in the same duel? Damn it. Should have been Outtrigger and Helena.
Boo. Hiss. No Jem in the final…
We have all four songs from Fredrik Kempe in final , Sanna, Oscar Zia, Alcazar and now Linus. Fredrik flop in 2012 when he did had any song in final.
Thomas G sson flop this year, he don t have song in final , he had 2 song in MF .
In duel Helene have better duel chance than Martin.
If we have duel Helena vs Linus , i think in final we see Linus
Martin vs Outrigger , i think in final we see Martin
yeeeeesss!!!! THIS IS EXACTLY THE TWO I WANTED THROUGH!!! FOR ONCE I GET WHAT I WANT!!!
COME ON HELENA GO FOR GOLD NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
