Showbiz siblings are commonplace these days. From the Kardashians to the Minogues to Jedward, there’s a clan for everyone to follow.

And if a certain wrestler has his way, the Smitten-Downes family could soon become a famous dynasty in its own right. I introduce you to Sam, older brother of the lovely Molly, this year’s UK representative at Eurovision. By day he works in recruitment, by night he’s an up and coming wrestler – Babyface Pitbull. I kid you not. While Molly is all boho chic and serenity, her big bro is busy flinging other grown men around a ring.

Following on from Molly’s stint in Copenhagen, Sam hopes that he too can get his moment in the limelight. In an interview with the Leicester Mercury, he admits that the two are very different, but he also claims they have a lot in common.

I’m an awful singer but we are both so similar in many ways… Wrestling and singing are both forms of entertainment and at the end of the day, they are both about selling tickets and getting people to like you… Mum always encouraged us to do the things we wanted to do and be the best we could be.

Right, those are rather tenuous “similarities”, but I’m sure Molly was very glad he didn’t say they look alike. His alias – Babyface Pitbull – comes from his youthful visage and broad build. I think we should all be grateful that he played no part in choosing Molly’s stage name.

In the same interview, Sam gives us an insight as to what it was like growing up with a future Eurovision star.

When we grew up, Molly was always singing around the house. She grabbed a mic’ at every opportunity… If there was a chance to sing, she would take it… I remember going on holiday when Molly was four or five and she used to get on stage and sing in the hotels we stayed in… Back then, Mum used to force me to watch her and I was like ‘Oh, it’s just Molly singing again’

It’s hard to see how he can leverage off Molly’s success, and make a name for himself. While both wrestling and Eurovision are hugely popular, their fan bases are unlikely to overlap. But hey, we love Molly, and if her brother wants a bite of her Euro-fame, who are we to say no? When he has muscles that big he can have whatever he likes!

And before y’all think he’s nothing but a hard-man, he’s really a big softy at heart.

I was excited and pleased for her when she told me she would be in Eurovision… When she sung, it was unbelievable. It was such an emotional time for all of us… I’m more than proud of her. She has worked so hard and she really deserves this.

All together now, awww.

I can no longer watch wrestling after finding out that most of them are rehearsed (obviously). But I’ll give them a try again to see how Molly’s brother is doing there this time.
