Last month, we introduced a new segment at wiwibloggs, called Wiwi’s Way. We show you what we wanted to happen in a previous edition of Eurovision, and then give you the chance to vote for your favourite contestant of that year.
Readers Way, 2006
You voted, we calculated the results, and we have a winner! Let’s take a look at your Top 10 favourite contestants of the first edition, 2006 in Athens.
- Sweden – Carola – Invincible (176 votes)
- Greece – Anna Vissi – Everything (152 votes)
- Finland – Lordi – Hard Rock Hallelujah (135 votes)
- Bosnia & Herzegovina – Hari Mata Hari – Lejla (124 votes)
- Romania – Mihai Traistariu – Tornero (102 votes)
- Belgium – Kate Ryan – Je T’Adore (88 votes)
- Ukraine – Tina Karol – Show Me Your Love (77 votes)

- (no ninth, tie in eighth)
- F.Y.R. Macedonia – Elena Risteska – Ninanajna (48 votes)
It is safe to say that the voting was extremely close. With only a 24-vote margin between your winner, Sweden and your runner-up Greece, the host country.
Our readers agreed with us in saying that Sweden’s Carola was the most deserving to win the 51st edition of Eurovision. Her angelic vocals and brilliant song seemed like the winning formula. Alas, Sweden will always be in the record books as finishing fifth at the contest.
The 2nd edition of Wiwi’s Way will focus on 2011, and will be released in the coming days. Better rewatch that year…
Mihai Traistariu should have won with “Tornero”. That song and his voice were supreme. Anna Vissi was my favourite, also, and I was really surprised when she finished 9th. She should have been 3rd, at least. “Lejla” and “Never Let You Go” are very beautiful songs to me.
Carola was excellent, but in a strong year like this I can only rate her 6th. For me, Cyprus was the best, performing my 3rd all time favorite in Eurovision. Greece was also excellent, being my 2nd favorite.
This is so ironic … The two best performers in 2006 chosen by fans here were the 2 names in the competition who actually first started out back in the 80s … and it’s funny their early entries were and are (to me) so way better than what they brought in 2006 … But the simple fact that 2 names from the pre-Dana International era are being praised here by a mostly-composed-generation of so-called Eurovision fans who probably first heard of Eurovision when Dana International won or later than that … or am I being just a bit sarcastic? LOL… Read more »
nO NO NO. ANNA VISSI WAS, FOR ME BY FAR THE BEST. THEN LORDI
Sweden and Belgium were my favorite entries in 2006.I also believe that Dima’s performance was actually better than his winner one 2 years after. What do you think?
Sweden, such an old fashioned song. I really don’t know why people loved (and love) this.
Greece was the best. I was really surprised that it finished 9th
How could Greece not win this?
1. Greece
2. Ukraine
