Over the weekend, the Eurovision world was a buzz with the news that a Luxembourg return was a real possibility. But mere days later and our hopes are already dashed. According to the Luxemburger Wort, the country’s Minister of Culture, Maggy Nagel, has denied the rumours and claimed that the whole thing was a “misunderstanding”.

Y’all will recall that the prospect of a Grand Duchy comeback first arose on Saturday night, during the annual Eurovision Live Gala. Linda Martin, 1992 winner and slayer of odious men, asked the Minister “Isn’t it time Luxembourg returned to Eurovision?”, to which Ms. Nagel responded with a nod and a “yes”. Turns out said nod was worthless. She builds us up, then tears us down.

While the Minister’s retraction will come as a blow to Eurofans, there is still some hope. Remember Italy returned after a 13 year absence and Monaco after 24. The micro-state is one of the richest countries in Europe. They HAVE the money.

Alas, for now at least, we’ll have to make do with their past glories. Here’s their last winner, Corinne Hermes with “Si La Vie Est Cadeau”.

One of my favorite winners of all time! Loved Luxembourg. Interestingly enough back then there was a “French bloc”. Not only has that been lost but the previous members of that bloc seldom vote for each other lol.

As I predicted … but this time around I appreciate you using Corrine Hermes’ entry to showcase the very last time the country won … stunning entry and a beautiful childhood memory.
