Cyprus is a sunny island, and the Eurovision Song Project — its selection for Eurovision 2015 — is bringing the locals even more heat. So far we’ve watched four episodes, which showed excerpts from auditions in front of the four judges. A standout was Maria Evangelou, a young singer with British and Cypriot roots. During the very first episode she wowed the judges with her number “Still” and proceeded to the next phase of the competition, the so-called Eurochallenge.
Wiwibloggers William (in the United Kingdom) and Billy (in Greece) recently chatted with London-based Maria via Skype. Maria talked about her background, what it’s like being compared to Amy Winehouse and Duffy by MusicWeek, and her latest single “Mr Right,” which has gotten a lot of airplay in the UK. And, of course, she tells us a bit more about “Still” — her #eurovisioncy entry which you’ve already heard — and “Play Me Like a Pop Song” — the number she will sing on this Sunday’s show.
Are you loving her voice as much as we are?
