National final season continues, with the first of Belgium‘s three Eurosong shows due to premiere tonight. It will introduce viewers to the five young artists hoping to follow in Loïc Nottet’s shoes. But we won’t hear their national final songs yet – the first episode is just an introduction to the five hopefuls.

The five candidates – Adil AarabAstrid DestuyverTom FrantzisLaura Tesoro and Amaryillis Uitterlinden – have already been introduced to the public via online and radio appearances. But tonight they’ll be introduced to television viewers when they each perform a cover of a classic Eurovision song in their own style. The songs will be “Hold Me Now” (Adil), “Euphoria” (Amaryllis), “Düm Tek Tek” (Laura), “Everyway That I Can”  (Astrid) and – of course – “Rhythm Inside” (Tom).

There’ll be no eliminations on this show, but the five will get feedback from a panel of experts. The first show features Belgian indie rock choir leader Stijn Kolacny and ESC legend Alexander Rybak, who will impart their expert knowledge.

On the following week’s show, we’ll be introduced to the song each act hopes to take to Stockholm. The five will get advice from more experts, then at the final on 17 January we’ll hear the full versions of their songs, which will be voted on by a public televote and an international jury vote.

Eurosong screens at 20:25 CET on ÉÉN.

Are you looking forward to Eurosong 2016? Can Belgium find another “Rhythm Inside”? Or will the curse of the ghostly “Mother” strike again? Share your thoughts below.

Here is my top 5 from tonight’s show

I really liked:
#1 Adil: nice voice + emotions + smile
#2 Laura: energic

The others didn’t convince me at all
#3 Astrid: too calm
#4 Amarylis: so boring Axel 2.0
#5 Tom: not a good choice and maybe kinda “mr know-it-all”

I’m excited for Belgium. Opposite from many people, I actually liked Axel’s Mother ballad. It was powerful and nice but I liked Loic too. Can’t wait to see what Belgium comes up with this year.

I hope they continue their success from last year by picking the right song. Hopefully no song like ‘mother’ wins though…..
