It’s the national final that’s undergone a revamp for its 2017 edition. Now Malta broadcaster TVM has released the full producer-determined running order of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest (MESC) grand final. And it looks like 2016 runner-up Brooke has been given a prime spot performing second to last.

In late December, the first and last positions were determined by random draw. Opening the show will be Klinsmann Coleiro and his song “Laserlight”, and closing it will be #wiwijam participant Claudia Faniello who’ll perform “Breathlessly”. The rest of the rest of the running order has been determined by the show’s producers.

Former Swedish Idol winner Kevin Borg will perform fourth, and he’ll be directly followed by Jade Vella who will perform another song Kevin Borg has written.

Nearing the end of the show, Maxine Pace will perform “Bombshell” in 13th place. 2014 winner Richard Edwards will follow her with “You”. And 2016 runner-up Brooke Borg performs second to last with “Unstoppable”. Are the producers saving the best for last?

Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2017 – Running order

  1. Klinsmann Coleiro – “Laserlight”
  2. Raquela Dalli Gonzi – “Ray of Light”
  3. Deborah C & Josef – “Tonight”
  4. Kevin Borg – “Follow”
  5. Jade Vella – “Seconds Away”
  6. Crosswalk – “So Simple”
  7. Franklin Calleja – “Follow Me”
  8. Rhiannion – “Fearless”
  9. Miriana Conte – “Don’t Look Down”
  10. Shauna Vassallo – “Crazy Games”
  11. Janice Mangion – “Kewkba”
  12. Cherton Caruana – “Fighting to Survive”
  13. Maxine Pace – “Bombshell”

  15. Brooke Borg – “Unstoppable”
  16. Claudia Faniello – “Breathlessly”

Changes for 2017

TVM has made a number of sweeping changes to MESC. The semi-final is gone. Instead the 16 selected songs will all compete in the grand final on 18 February.

Also gone is the jury, who previously determined a whopping 83.33% of the total vote. Instead the winner of MESC will be determined 100% by televote. It’s up to the Maltese public to have their say in three weeks time.

My top 3 are still Janice Mangion, Franklin Calleja and Claudia Faniello. Last time they sent an entirely Maltese song was in 1972.

I really like this line-up, and I will probably watch this final. My personal favourites are Janice, Jade Vella and Crosswalk. Although I am a Brooke fan, I’m not an “Unstoppable” fan – leave that stuff to Conchita please (get it, “unstoppable?” Haha!)
Franklin is so adorable as well. 🙂

Whoa, Malta always goes with hard choices. I’d support Maxine Pace.

That’s a lot of mediocre midtempo songs so nothing will really stand out

Brooke is sooo overrated- just because she has a big name doesn’t mean you have to like her. My favourite is Tonight but now the producers have basically wrecked their chances in favour of Brooke.

Brooke is looking strong, but I’m cheering for Janice to take it by a whisker. 100% televote means 100% unpredictable. Juries much less so. The draw also favours Claudia. Live performance will make or break it. 🙂

Seems like Brooke just got a bit more favoured thanks to the draw.. I actually prefer Unstoppable to Golden but I’m still praying that Kewkba wins. At least the YouTube views for Kewkba are higher than Brooke, but my gut tells me Brooke will still win it :/ It’s about time that we had a song in Maltese though

Unstoppable is pretty good, but like others are saying it’s overhyped a lot. I’m sure Brooke’s love will really elevate it though. I’m also excited to see what Maxine has in store, since she has a pretty good spot as well with an uptempo song which should secure her at least top 5, and maybe even the win

If it’s between Brooke and Claudia… CLAUDIA ALL THE WAY!

@D – I agree, ‘Unstoppable’ is overhyped as hell! Lyrically, it’s THE SAME EFFIN SONG as ‘Golden’, only ‘Golden’ has much better appeal.

‘Bombshell’, ‘Breathlessly’, ‘Ray of Light’, ‘Follow’, ‘You’ and ‘Kewkba’ are all MUCH stronger entries!

Brooke or Franklin for the win! Such amazing songs and singers! <3<3<3<3

I kinda hope Brooke loses just because of how everyone’s overhyping her average song. “Golden” was her winning song, but Malta decided to vote based on singer rather than song. “Unstoppable” is just formulaic and general. Come back next year with something even better than “Golden”.

That running order…

The battle between Brooke and Claudia begins.
