He is the Ukrainian pop sensation who sang “Forever” for Belarus at Eurovision 2018, and showcased one of the most visually spectacular stagings of the year. Last week, Alekseev gained more momentum by dropping “Sberegu” on his 25th birthday. Currently, this hit single is making waves in the CIS states, and the official music video has already surpassed a million views.

Taking on a telenovella narrative, feelings of love and affection are laid bare in the music video. Alekseev assumes the historical depiction of the hero, and remains the central character of the visual storyline.

Despite the modern production here, Alekseev’s voice soars, and penetrates the beats. “Sberegu” is Eastern in flavour, but at the same time, has a strong Western appeal. The song combines edgy electronic production with Alekseev’s warm, R&B-tinged vocals.

In the music video, Alekseev plays a hero who writes his own story by literally typing out the scenes of his life on a typewriter, inscribing his ideas on paper. Flashes from the past inspire new realities. Maria Kolosova, a ballet dancer plays his love interest in the video. Together, they sizzle.

“Sberegu” — which literally translates to “Saviour” in English — sees Alekseev return to the sounds that launched his super-stardom in the CIS region. Recently, we attended the Big Wedding outdoor concert in Kyiv, where Alekseev performed this track to thousands of revellers.

Do you like Alekseev’s new track? Do you prefer him singing in Russian? What do you think of the music video? Please let us know in the comments section below.

If you don’t like him it doesn’t automatically mean that he is singing for himself, sorry. He is famous in all post Soviet countries. His “Drunken Sun” song was in top 52 world shazam that no more Russian songs acheived yet. He has many awards in Russia and many fans.

Would be great if he does a new album this year! I searched for his music after the ESC because I really liked “Forever” and found his album from 2016 which is SO brilliant. His voice might not be the strongest but I think it fits perfectly to his musical style.

I love his new song and the previous too, he has one of the most emotional voices that I heard in a long time. Thanks for your good vibe with him, Deban. A lot of ESC fans are mean with him even a month later and I don’t understand why.

It’s time to forget and keep going, haters. In my case, it’s time to enjoy this beautiful voice and smile a lot. All is valid except disrespectful comments against any former ESC contestant.

Alekseev is a good singer, but still a questionable ”actor”. He needs to have some proper training to adjust his facial expressions.

He works well in the studio, but that’s it. Not made for a live competition.

I get the feeling that he doesn’t have a good fate when it comes to “contest” (both The Voice and Eurovision) but beside that I LOVE his live performances XD

By the way, I can’t figure out whether you’re trying to be “realistic” or put people off Alekseev. If you mean the former then it’s fine – everyone has their ups and downs and that’s how life works. If you mean the latter then I feel sorry for you, you fail. Another option is that you just don’t like him, that’s OK. I used to be a K-pop anti-fan and I did everything I could to show my hate but honestly now when I look back to those days, I feel so silly and immature . An artist is also… Read more »

Are you serious? Have you been to his concerts? or this comment is based solely on his ESC freaking performance? Man, nerves were killing him.. You could see.. It happens to sensitive/emotional people. I am not going to ask for his head for few not so perfect performances… He didn’t win so many music awards just for his pretty face. He can deliver when not under pressure… I am hooked on him ! and will support this artist. He makes good music, music that pleases me. Cheers. 🙂

Alekseev is ridiculously cute.

Between him and Melovin, these Ukrainian boys are making quite the splash.

I love his style! I listened to a lot of his other songs and they are really good, and LOVE how vintage, yet modern they sound.

And about all the criticism he gets… I understand those critical comments about his singing ability or his song. Well, I hope Alekseev himself will not be discouraged but be motivated to improve himself (’cause I learn from my own experience that failure sometimes is a better teacher than success as it makes you realize where you’re standing)
The past is in the past. What matters now is the presence and I hope he feel encouraged now to produce more great music :))
Btw, sorry for my English. I’m not a native speaker :p

You know what? I like Alekseev’s ‘singing ability’ more than many qualified (par example Mikolas or Melovin. 🙂 I would go to his concerts and buy his music..

I feel so grateful to Eurovision for helping me discovering him :))) Normally I will never become somebody’s fan just because I like some of their songs. I unconsciously demand more than that: personality, music style, my first impression, background story or just simply my feeling towards the artist. Therefore, I am so happy to discover an artist whose music is truly my cup of tea, thanks to Eurovision <3
