Back in February, when VICTORIA first presented “Growing Up Is Getting Old”, she revealed that it was deeply personal. “You can grow in many different ways,” she said at the time. “Sometimes going back to your roots, to the place you feel safe and the people you love helps you find your purpose on Earth. This is the case for me. When I listen to the song I think of my mother, my father, my sister, my friends. All the people that mean the world to me.”

The song drips with nostalgia and a sense of longing — not just for people, but for the simpler times during which those relationships flourished. Recent events make that feel all the more real. Last week VICTORIA gave the most raw and emotional interview of her career, revealing that her father was recently diagnosed with ALS, also known as motor neurone disease.

Now, shortly after sharing her biggest travails publicly, VICTORIA has released the acoustic version of her Eurovision 2021 song. This stripped-back version puts VICTORIA’s feelings front-and-centre, reminding us once more that she sings from the heart.

VICTORIA films acoustic version of “Growing Up Is Getting Old”

VICTORIA performs alongside her friends Aleksandar on piano and Magdalena on the cello. She wears headphones throughout and appears to be lost in an emotional world all her own. Despite being a pared back take on a pared back song, this still has texture and drive owing to the rich intimacy and pure emotion on show. VICTORIA imbues every note with something visceral and sincere. Surely a good sign for Eurovision.

Are you feeling it? How high do you think VICTORIA can climb at ESC? Let us know down below!

Not sure why the bookies think this song is a contender for the win. There is no hype for this song on YouTube or other eurovision platforms. Her voice is great but the song isn’t.

Doesn’t seem to be something I’d listen to with pleasure, this type of mumbling with lullaby style singing was something I liked at first; for example Melanie Martinez, but now even those songs seem to have no reflect on me.

To that one bot changing their IP address just to downvote every positive comments, you’re a heartless creep with no life. Seriously, you’re only presenting yourself as a loser and you can just GTFO with that.

As for Victoria, she has every right to feel what she feels and sing what she sings. Also, may I remind you GUIGO haters that the song literally got the same amount of positive reaction as IF and she was just asking for feedbacks, that literally enough for her to chose this song.

If it really would be a bot making downvotes, how is it going to read your comment? Seems just like another conspiracy theory..

Bit rich calling it “recycled plastic at its finest”
When you attack and shoot down anyone for saying anything bad about Malta, which actually was a Melfest reject and the very definition of “recycled plastic”.
But reply and spam me all you want, I’m not replying to you further, just calling you out now for being hypocritical and being the very person you are attacking on any Malta article.
But I suspect you knew what you where doing because you wanted to start something.

It’s obvious – THEY’RE FAKE! It’s the same as the article for her father (her father is sick). Every single supportive comment have more than 80 downvotes (for a few minutes)…Is it normal??? I don’t think so…

dude… victoria didn’t say fans would DETERMINE the outcome, she just asked for opinions. apparently even though the song doesn’t seem like a huge fan favorite the comments about it are positive and in fact she only asked for comments that’s obviously enough for victoria. She didn’t say “i would pick the fan favorite”, she only said “the comments would help me”, and since the comments are positive, dammit, let her pick what she wants.

with that being said, there’s no need for people who don’t like the song to find every single positive comment and downvote it.

I don’t understand why she chose the song that was least liked by most of fans, so no wonder she’s getting disliked. Should have chosen Imaginary Friend.

Imaginary Friend would have been a lot better option, but I would have chosen Ugly cry!

GUIGO literally got the same amount of positive comments as with IF and many on her team agreed it has the most potential for staging, of course they’re going to pick this.

This is ridiculous!

Why is she getting so much hate on here ( talking about the downvotes ).
And the song not attention at all in general. She took a risk choosing the less popular one just coz it had staging potential.

The song is sweet, Victoria too. But…I believe after the difficult last year, the last thing that wants somebody to listen in 2021 esc is a lullaby from Bulgaria or cut my vains voices from Swiss or France.

Ofcourse all of the 3 songs are qualitative but have wrong placement in time….especially after a winning ‘crying ballad’ from Holland.

In my opinon, there is not a chance one of these three to win. They will do well with juries…and incredible bad in televoting.

And this explains a lot the hype bubble for Malta….

Surely by that logic then, if people don’t want to get behind a lullaby from Bulgaria after the year we’ve had, France wouldn’t also be at the top of the odds. If they were also suffering in the odds I would share your view, but they’re not.
What I think might be at play here is people finding similarities between last year and this year, much like what is happening with Azerbaijan too.

Ok…but do not forget that bookies always want ‘hares’. I can’t imagine the ‘middle’ european voter…to take the mobile full of enthusiasm…for these entries. Ofcourse this is my thought and is probably completely wrong.

Finally a plausible explanation for Malta’s pre-contest success. Still, I think there are much better bops to choose from this year than Malta.

On the contrary! That is the ULTIMATE EMPOWERMENT song! She OWNS those feelings and transform them into art. What is getting outdated is tucking away your feelings, even if they are said and yes depressive. This is a way to channel out those feelings and thoughts, don’t you get it?… I guess not, as your brain is getting fried by all those bops and fake “happy feelings”

OK… This version has made me actually very very ANGRY!!! I am angry that countries don’t have the COURAGE to send versions like this, letting the actual music and performances shine through and using real instruments only . This version has shown that this song is beautiful, an actual masterpiece, by far the best song in the contest ( even better than France and Switzerland and I don’t even mention the sea of bops we have this year). And in my opinion it would have a much better chance to win the whole thing. But no… Bulgaria, as any other… Read more »

The staging would need to be inventive and engaging. The response to her music video is pretty lukewarm .

A simple staging could be enough. They shouldn’t throw everything at it on stage, it’s not that kind of song.

Engaging as in reflect the mood of the song and draw the audiences in . Obviously they can’t be having dress reveals and 5 dancers on the stage !!

If you think it will flop, that’s fair enough. But you may be shocked in May when that doesn’t happen.
It’s the most relatable song for everyone this year, sums up the global mood just now and I wouldn’t rule it out.

I didn’t upvote it or downvote it. But downvotes are not to be taken as personal attacks against the artist being praised……….

It’s possible some of them come from people who dislike the commenter. Some could have come from superfans of other songs who don’t like this song and don’t want this to do well. Some could have come from people still dismayed about the conduct of their internal selection . Also similar comments by two different users end up getting different amounts of upvotes/downvotes . I’d rather people downvote than post hate comments .
