From Sofia to Sydney with love. That’s right! Australia has been cordially invited to participate in the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Bulgaria in November!
Confirmed by the official Twitter account for the Junior Eurovision Press, they sent out a tweet saying “We’ve invited them #AussieAussieAussieOiOiOi #JESC2015 #discover”.

The invite, we assume, stems from the invitation from ORF and the EBU to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna earlier in the year. Although the Australian broadcaster SBS is yet to comment, we will have our fingers and toes crossed that they will accept. After all, we’ve already accepted Australia into our Eurovision bubble. They’re like family now!
After Jessica Mauboy’s guest appearance in 2014, Australia was officially represented by Guy Sebastian in the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, who managed an impressive fifth place. Check out our interview with him on the red carpet below!
Should Australia compete in JESC? Which pint-sized superstar would you like to see represent the land down under in Bulgaria? Leave your comments below!
Before Vienna , I thought as an Australian ” Why are we here “? I’d never really been interested in it until after this years show . I didn’t get up for the any of the shows (which people may not realise was 5 in the morning ) but I really enjoyed it immensely.
I hope we do participate, in both Junior Eurovision and Eurovision it self , for those who love it in Australia
My only problem is who are we going to send ? The winner of The Voice Kids ?
EBU want so made Australia every year at Eurovison in both version . I don t like that idea, maybe one year like in adult eurovision, and then as guest maybe every 4 yearl like Olympic games.
Eurovision has never been a strictly European event. For instance, songwriters have come from Australia and the U.S. I would rather let other countries officially join than to deceive the audience into thinking that an entry actually represents the country it came from. Many Eurovision songs have very little cultural or creative connection to the country they represent.
‘one-off participation’ my ass
LEAVE
Oh, I want them to send Marlisa Punzalan should she not turn 16 yet by the time JESC 2015 takes place.
No! The EBU are taking it too far now! They promised that the Aussies would only appear ONCE! It is too far! Associate members can’t enter when they lie inside Europe, why can they join outside? Why should Australia get anymore privileges that San Marino or Albania, who pale in comparison to Australia (both economically and physically) but still pay the same money towards the contest as them! It was barable that they enter EUROvision once but it was nice while it lasted, now it is time to depart Australia! I strongly wish the EBU do stick to their promises… Read more »
@Lawrence Gibb: Australia is only an associate member of the EBU, not a full member.
Any countries are good to join but China. Too alien to take part of Eurovision per se
The risk is that they crash out of JESC like in last place. and then they never return to JESC. JESC is very much a Eastern European affair… so.
I do support Australia returning to ESC. But then they have to qualify through the semifinal in my opinion.
But i dont support other countries like China or Canada to participate yet…they have to prove they are fans of the contest first….through many years of broadcasting ESC
Well, I don’t really care about JESC, so…
But I think they shouldn’t participate again in Stockholm, sorry.
Kosovo has not been recognised by UN, and consequently cannot joinnthe EBU, Kazakhstan is not a member of EBU for reasons pertaining to the independence of its broadcaster and Qatar’s application has been seriously considered. Australia has been member of the EBU for 30 years. If they are willing to pay the fees and the costscost, send as credible an entry as this year, with millions of fans getting up at 4 in the morning tto watch, then more power to them. Let’s not get too Euro centric.
I’m all for it, seeing as the JESC needs participating countries.
Scott: Georgia and Azerbaijan both have territory in Europe, while Israel and Armenia are also culturally European. Georgians, Azeris, Armenians, and the majority of the Jews of Israel are all European ethnic groups and their territories lie within the European Broadcasting Area. Australia is a country located all the way in Oceania (if you’re not that good at geography, that’s very very far from Europe). Their only ties to Europe are that the majority of its population has European ancestry (although most of them have lived in Australia for generations) and that the territory was colonised by the United Kingdom.… Read more »
Scott .I think all that countries have many beautiful songs to eurovision like-Not Alone,Always,Warrior and Same heart. So,do not be rude. They have unique musical style and they bring something new in eurovision.
Scott something: difference is we are Eastern Europe and they are not so yes we can
erm i’d rather have Australia participate any day than fucking Azerbaijan, Armenia, Israel and Georgia, they have little in common with the rest of Europe compared to Australia.
I’m very skeptic. After Australian participation this year, EBU thought that now Australia can participate in each european contest, but I’m sure that the next year no one will think about Australia anymore. I really love Australia, and Tonight Again was an amazing song, but this won’t last for so long.
That’s a good idea I think 🙂 More countries are better and Australia take ESC so seriously and they did a very good job there so, why not also in JESC?
When i heard this the first thing that came into my mind was that JESC has no anniversery this year and that means that they are just interested in making Australia a permanent member. So IF we are lucky Maybe SVT is considering to ask Australia IF they wanna compete in ESC 2016.
If EBU wants to make me happy then they invite Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan to ESC, JESC, EYD and EYM.
Instead of these shitty thing bring back Luxembourg,Monaco,Slovakia or any other withdrawing country to the contest
Why not? It’d be great!!!
Sydney 2016?
As Trijntje would say “Why why -ai ai ai why ai ai ai”
I have my fingers and toes crossed that they will not accept
The more, the happier? YES! But it’s NOT fair if one country can enter just by getting an invitation, and other countries have to comform to all kinds of rules first.
If other countries such as China and Qatar etc want to joint and they’re not allowed , the only reason i can see EBU defending Australia’s permanent participation ( if it happens ) would be because of australias strong connections historically with Europe and a very similar culture along with the fact that after Sweden it seems like they’re the biggest fans of the contest nationwise
Australia should not be going as far as this. They should just be having one appearance in both the adult and junior versions and be done with it.
Why all the negativity? The more countries the better
@R: I will be *extremely* surprised if Australia does not take part next year…
I see all these bad comments. I am verry, verry happy with this news! The more the merrier is say! I hope they keep competing in atleast Eurovision, that would be great.
Byes from The Netherlands, the ultimate JESC country!
Hmm i can’t imagine them withdrawing for esc 2016 now. I don’t really mind that they compete but i don’t want other countries outside of the european broadcasting zone competing… :/
Their ESC participation was a very bad idea, it would be worse. EBU should keep JESC (+ EYM and EYD) for their members.
But if they want to invite Australia then allow them only to vote.
And my country isn’t in! Sweden, what have you done, if we don’t return and Australia debuts I want to complain to Jesc how much I want to vote in the online voiting
They are destroying the eurovision spirit, you can’t imagine how pissed off I am right now…
Why not?
As an Australian, this is just ridiculous… Either do it properly and invite us back or just leave it. Stop teasing. It’s annoying.
Ugh, I thought we were finally done with this.
