Ukraine’s absence from Eurovision 2015 was tough to take. Now that Ukraine is back in the game, its Eurovision organisers are ready to make up for last year by going big and going hard during their national selection for Eurovision 2016. NTU has already revealed its plans to co-operate with commercial channel STB, and to stage auditions in Zaporizhia, Kharkiv, Odessa, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv this December. Today it has added more spice to the mix, revealing that it will stage at least three semi-final rounds which will be broadcast live in February.
Ukraine: National selection 2016
Details are still coming together, but this is what we know so far.
The first stage of the selection process ends on January 15, 2016. At that point producers will select between 20 and 40 songs to compete in the semi-finals in February. According to a statement sent to wiwibloggs by NTU, there will be three or four semi-final rounds, each broadcast live on UA Pershyi and STB. A combination of a jury vote and televoting will determine which acts advance to the final. Eight to 12 acts will make the final — that’s two or three per semi. The final will also take place in February.
