Kamilla Ismailova will represent San Marino at Junior Eurovision 2015 with “Mirror”. At just 11 years old, the multi-talented youngster has many titles to her name – singer (obviously), actress, tv presenter, Russian citizen. Yes, you read correctly. The budding songstress hails from the Motherland and has no connections to the Mediterranean micro-state. But that doesn’t mean she lacks enthusiasm.
Her official Junior Eurovision bio tells us that she visited the land of Monetta as a young child, and ever since it has “taken a place in her heart”. Kamilla and her people approached SMRTV with the idea of singing at Junior Eurovision, and much to her delight they said yes.
And what of the song? “Mirror” is a ballad, not uncommon but a first for San Marino. Sung in a mixture of Italian and English, it’s slightly darker than what we’re used to at the contest – “Mirror, mirror on the wall. Can’t you see I’m losing it all?”
Although EBU rules require JESC contestants to be citizens of the country they are representing, officials make an exception for San Marino, which has a population of just 32,000 people. The inaugural San Marinese representitve in 2013 was the Italian Michele Perniola. And last year they sent the Peppermints, of which only one member was from San Marino.
What do y’all think of San Marino’s choice? Let us know below.
All you guys complaining about her being Russian … let me throw a cat among you pigeons: Look at the name!
Ismailova… not only Russian, but also Muslim!
Whadyy’all make of dat?!
@Eurovision_Australia Yes, she sings that during the chorus. But if you listen to the very end you’ll hear her sing “I’m losing it all” (at about 2:45).
I thought the lyrics were “Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Can’t you see I’m losing control”
@Eva how is it cheating? Many American singers are from the Caribbean, there’s no difference.
I really love this song! My fav so far, well done San Marino!
Tom, do you know what is freedom of speech? Chech it out on the Internet, if you do not.
Also telling someone to shut up because you do not like what they are saying is not an effective way of dealing with disagreement.
However, depending on you age, and particularly if you are a child, I can understand and sympathize with you wish to not have politics. I also wish there were no politics, but when you grow up you sooner or later encouter them. Please do not take this personally. Best wishes-:)
I really dont get it guys, why do you all bring up politics? I do not care about were the 11 year old is from. I only think about the song and hw the San Mariese Delegation will handel the song, you all hate politics in these contests? Then stop bringing it up.
Kjeitl, I am sure it will be very convenient for the organizers if people focus on the dress and the projections and not on the politics. How long did it take them to publish the breakdown between Jury and Vote for JESC? Anyway, I understand that depending on your background, country and how much you benefit from the different rules set up for San Marino, you can have different view on what is fair and what is cheating. In some countries cheating is a good thing, I am inferring from the little, which I read about there politics. I mean,… Read more »
The dress is amazing and I love the projections – they should use them at the stage! It would make the performance unique and the voters would remember it!
If she hits the notes in Sofia it could be a great place for San Marino.
It’s my first place so far and I don’t think Ireland can top it but let’s see 😀
If it was an English person singing for Ireland, I doubt as many people would care. I really like this song and i don’t care where shes from. The people complaining are the ones who make this competition about politics. Listen to the music!
Ya guys wanna knw something? The broadcasters never bring up politics. Its always people here watching it… please stop it.
I have changed my mind. San Marino and Italy switch places in my top 16
Eva
I think in future we wili many young girls, girls, woman, from Russia who wili sing for micro states in Junior Eurovison or Eurovison for San Marino, maybe Monaco, Andorra if they comeback to Eurovision in junior or adult version , because they have rich parents (for junior Eurovision), rich boyfriend or rich husband (for Eurovison).
My top 16.
1. Armenia

3. Russia
4. Slovenia
5. Serbia

16. Bulgaria
This is a fine example of the political games at JESC… of course, San Marino was part of the staging for Italy’s first place last year. Now they are going to be represented by a Russian girl? How fair is this to all contestants in other countries, such as Russia, who went through super competitive selection process? Did I remember to thank God that I am an American? That level of blunt double standards at a TV show of this caliber cannot work here. Nobody would have supported and voted for it. We have a word here for that. C-H-E-A-T-I-N-G.… Read more »
I like it but her accent is quite strong (And i speak Italian as a 2nd language after English). Quite a nice song. I can imagine this is going to have very elaborate staging!

Gotta say, this is San Marinos best song ever in eurovision related contest
I like the song very much !! It ‘s a great surprise and I like to wish San Marino and Kamilla a lot of succes
Song has a bit of a mysterious sound. I like it, but it’s not great.
Great song with the potential to do very, very well but only if they stage it well- please make her wear the LED dress! It shows some amazing images and would set it apart from the rest of the entries! I think she is going to surprise us by singing really powerfully live in Sofia! In terms of composition, it’s strong and is lyrically quite strong and meaningful! It will also gain votes from Russia (as she is Russian) and will no doubt do very well with Eastern Europe! Maybe this is the year San Marino! Hopefully!
Weird decision to be represented by a Russian girl but it’s not a real problem, we have seen these things many times at the adult contest especially with Switzerland for example (cool vibes in 2005 were Estonian I think). Anyway, back to the San Marino jesc entry. I’ve heard it once and it left me a overall nice impression! I think it currently is my sixth but it may grow. I didn’t hear a bad voice as everybody says, I think the song just doesn’t require big vocals. Good luck San Marino! Ireland to go to conclude this year’s lineup… Read more »

Well it was going ok until the English lyrics kicked in. Ouch. I have to agree that this won’t sound good live when she’s barely scraping through in the studio :/
Omg next fail for san marino. Next female singer. What teens want to see? Boybands! Instead san marino sends next boring female singer like 80% of other countries. Nobody can make something original, what can brings success. Kids are listening 1D. Did someone sent teen boyband? Lol. Stupid broadcasters.
So San Marino used their stock of singers and from now on their spot will be a wildcard for NF dropouts?
Sadly if San Marino sent Sam Smith or years and years eg they still wouldn’t do well being a small and not so political country. Such is the case with this song, which is good but probably won’t make top 10. Great choice however San Marino.
This is so much better than Chain of Lights omg seriously San Marino? 😛
Best song till now. <3
Bien, very good! Good luck San Marino
I really like the song, I really hope she can perform the song well live as I have a bad feeling it’s not going to work well live. It’s my number 6 at the moment, but could probably go into my top 3 if it’s performed well – as with all the entries this year staging is going to be the key decider on whether they do well or not…
Russian Accent aside, the song is quite good! I can see this getting votes! 🙂
If San Marino can’t abide by rules and find a representative to take part whilst complying….maybe they shouldn’t take part? Seems very unfair
Her vocals do NOT sound good in studio, which makes me worry about her live abilities…but the song’s not bad. Still inferior to Italy’s, which I thought might not be the case.
I think I can hear the Russian accent but at least she’s still singing Italian. I do like the song too! Especially compared to previous San Marino entries (from both ESC and JESC, aside from Crisalide — that’s a great one)
i love it!
I didn’t expect a russian girl to represent San Marino!
That is leaves me certainly surprised.
Its not a bad song, but its not really good either.
It’s my 14th liked song out of the 16.
Already listened to it 4 times. Not bad compared to San Marino’s previous entries.
Very interesting to send a Russian singer, but I’m loving the song!
Yeah! Good choice!
When’s she gonna turn 12?
I thought San Marino were only allowed to use Italian and Sammarinese singers???
