Apparently, according to one fanstie, “Annalisa broke the Italian Spotify record for the highest number of valid streams within the first 24 hours by a solo female artist”

Surely, this is enough for her to win? She’s the people’s winner I think.

But she is 3rd on Spotify behind Geolier and Mahmood so no, I wouldn’t say she is the people’s winner

Geolier and Angelina are, but most of their support comes from Southern Italy.

This will be a battle between the North and the South.

But televoting is only one third of the final result. I think the biggest advantage for Angelina will be the juries.

Yes it is. Only way Mahmood beat Ultimo in 2019 was the reset, as Ultimo and Il Volvo dominated the week leading up to the superfinal. Mahmood didn’t start climbing the scoreboard until midweek. The domination of the top two allowed Mahmood to make the superfinal as all of the other contestant scores were low.

Annalisa hasn’t won any of the votes so far though. You need to win at least one of the votes to win the whole thing. My gut says that it’s gonna be between Geolier and Angelina. Geolier is gaining momentum with the public so I think he will most likely win the televoting but that’s only one third of the final result and I don’t know if the margin will be sufficient enough to allow him overcome a low jury vote in the superfinal. Angelina on the other hand seems to have the advantage with the juries, especially the press… Read more »

Does it mean already that Angelina will win the festival? Please someone give me the hope that no. I completely dislike her song and don’t understand how it is doing so well (ok the whole south voting for her, but seems like even juries liked her too). In such a strong year with so much quality, her victory is even more confusing. Still rooting for mahmood, annalisa and irama. Hope Angelina or geolier won’t win, these are not the quality. My favorites but with zero chances to win are also Clara and Santifrancesi.

I think people like it cause she has an amazing voice, and can control it while dancing. That she has charm on the stage while singing a song with good rhytm that is hard to perform unless you are her. All those things make it a strong song, if you have any musical knowledge. If! you have

I have a musical knowledge and her voice if far from being amazing 🙂 and I didn’t know that ability to dance on the stage has a connection with a quality of song itself. Interesting correlation.

She was phenomenal on the stage and the audience gave her a standing ovation. Its not like her father is the most famous person on Italy or the fact that many other contestants (not their relatives) are equally famous. Analesa, Mahmood, Irama, Allesandra, Loredana, Ricchi e Poveri are super famous as her father.

It was always like that. 66% for the juries and 34% for televoting. It was the reason we got Mahmood back in 2019. Juries loved him when the audience was voting for the very popular back then Ultimo.

In truth, the demoscopic jury was made up of people who were musically experienced in a certain way, plus they represented the diversity of the Italian population. The great criticism that was always made was that the choice of this demoscopic jury was opaque, so it was decided to replace it with a radio jury that still is representing local diversity (in fact they are local radio stations) but in some ways gave more transparency in the decision of why they can vote

I liked the fact that a minority gets its say in a demoscopic jury. Like at ESC I don’t vote anymore because of how much money I spent on songs that end up getting zero points in our televote. So all that money I spent means nothing on the final scoreboard.

I think I’ll be downvoted to hell for this unpopular opinion: if Italy sends Annalisa, Angelina or Geolier to Eurovision, Italy’ll be very low in my ranking. Angelina is just another dance bop (and I don’t like that too much), with Annalisa I Just can’t connect and the chorus is getting on my nerves very fast, and with Geolier I can’t find the hook or melody for the life of me. Angelina has a well written, catchy, danceable song and owns the stage. Annalisa’s song is good (as you pointed out, if you don’t mind the repetitive quando) but her stage presence is kinda lacking in my opinion. The main appeal of Geolier for me is the wonderful Neapolitan language, but I agree the melody is kinda not there. They are all strong contenders… but I’m still hoping Irama wins.

Mango winning this night was SO predictable. I think Annalisa and Mahmood’s chances of winning this have plummeted significantly downwards! Because of how Sanremo works, correct me if I’m wrong but they add up or take the average of all the results and Mango got a higher result on night one because of those radios and other juries. Then she got lucky ending up in this MUCH weaker second half where there’s very little competitive songs so she easily won. Meanwhile, Annalisa and Mahmood struggled against the tougher batch! Mango will definitely be winning this now unless the super final… Read more »

There is a game launched by a group of people called Fantasanremo. It’s based on the fantacalcio. An alternative soccer championship played virtually where you earn points on italian Serie A soccer championship where you are associated to a soccer team. Each action is predetermined. Actions may be show nipple on the stage, give a pencil to Amadeus, or flowers to the director, or wear a particular dress. The singer collecting the more points wins the fantasanremo.

Jonas, for 9 euros you can visit the Ariston Theatre. All year long except the week of Sanremo, and probably also during the construction of the stage, which starts around end of december.

You will also visit the rooms where the singers dress up. The backstage, etc. Check on the Ariston website.

Sanremo is certainly better musically and in terms of the general level of songs.
If there is one point I can give to NFs like Melfest and MGP it’s that they are much more concise and slick.
And also they have more of a show factor in terms of stagings etc so they are more Eurovision-y but Sanremo has a completely different style so I count that out.

Sanremo has everything in it that I want to have musically: Good songwriting, good performers, a live orchestra and a receptive audience. It’s at the top of quality for what I personally look for in a music song contest. Sweden is a much larger production staged in a much bigger arena, so of course there are logistical challenges involved in that. Sweden has great songwriters too, but without the live orchestra it sometimes comes across a bit too well-prepared. years ago they tried to organize the Sanremo festival in a large arena, but aesthetically it was a flop, too big and distracting, the magic vanished, which is why they returned to the Ariston theatre.
The magic of Sanremo is also that small cinema where few people can enter! As for the scenography, with all due respect, Swedish TV would not be capable of creating a complex scene like that of Sanremo, even the American guests are surprised and ask to meet the set designer in person.

Unlike most people, I don’t like Angelina’s entry. This Latin style is not for me.
Diodato on the other hand was great. The best of the night for me!
