Elhaida Dani, the 2015 Albanian Eurovision Song Contest contestant, was on Kosovo Klan’s entertainment show last night, hosted by one of the Festivali i Këngës 53 hosts, Liberta Spahiu. Elhaida discussed her plans for her Eurovision entry, new projects in Italy and much more. Elhaida confirmed that she will perform Diell in English, as we previously speculated.
Elhaida Dani Interview on Prive
Since winning Festivali i Këngës 53 on December 28, Elhaida has been busy traveling back and forth between Italy, where she lives, and Albania. She said that she will be focusing on her Eurovision entry and will be traveling to Los Angeles to work on the final version of Diell. Following the revamp, her team will work on the official video. The composer of ‘Diell’ Aldo Shllaku worked on the revamp of Rona Nishliu’s ‘Suus’.
She also talks about when she entered Festivali i Këngës 50 along with Rona Nishliu. She says she’s a big fan of her and the winner had to be Rona. She says she was probably too young to win something as big as Festivali i Këngës.
This will be a new experience for me. I’m not just going to represent myself, but represent the whole country.
Elsewhere, she recently signed a contract to be on the jury of a talent show in Italy and will start soon.
Albania will be performing in the second half of the first semi-final of the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest on May 18 2015.

Well, it hasn’t happened before in albania
I am a true believer that songs in the original language are greater and more authentic than the revamped ones. Moreover, I believe the songs in the national selections should be in the native language, just as in Albania. I think that a nation in such international competitions should represent its values, music and culture in its own language (not with some cliche US or whatever pop songs. Not the case anyway). From a patriotic point of view, I feel great when I hear a song in my mother tongue sang to a whole continent (especially when coming from a… Read more »
This is going to be a lot better than Hersi, and I mean, I LOVED hersi! But I think elhaida has a more traditionally incredible voice, I think this will be very special. In English, AND Albanian. Sadly, I love it now, so just don’t want it to change too much. Though they are going to have to massively re-work it anyway to be under 3 mins!
Elhaida has a professional team behind her and boy she can sing very well in English 🙂
I think it is smart as well. It will all come down to her English pronunciation. I feel like people judge contestants WAY too hard for their pronunciation and accent when they sing in English rather than their natural tongue. Like Hersi last year. Granted I wasn’t fond of her voice to begin with but clearly people criticized her for her English which was not all that fair for her.
They really need to change the music, not so much the lyrics. That song is so messy that not even Elhaida could sing it well or make it sound good in any way.
Daniel beat me on it, I was going to say exactly the same 😛
I’ll just add that I’m trying hard to like Elhaida, I think she has a great voice, I just dislike her song, so hopefully a good re-work will finally make me like it.
I think this is a real shame. I hope it’s not a similar situation to last year, they destroyed a great Albanian song. They did the same thing in 2011 too! However, saying this, Elhaida is formidable singer, I truly believe she will give a great performance of this, even in English. Albania has been quite consistent with their entries (imo), but once they revamp their entry for Eurovision, it just kills their chances. 2008 and 2012 were GREAT Albanian language entries (and they qualified!). I think the only entry that really worked in English was “It’s all About You”,… Read more »
Don’t care about the language. I care about a reworking on the song. Then I will like it better like last year unlike so many others.
nooo :'( why did they take this decision?! albanian language is so melodc and whenever albania translate its song it turns to a disaster (like 2014)
Good idea 🙂
If I was playing to win I would aim to connect with a broad audience. It is much harder to do that singing in Albanian. Not impossible, just harder. I would choose to sing in English.
This could honestly reach Top 5. Her voice is amazing and the song has more capabilities to connect with the audience if sang in English.
I think this is the right decision. I’m very confident in Elhaida Dani. She has a strong team behind her and I cannot wait to hear it 🙂
I would’ve loved to hear some Albanian in the contest though.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! WHY???????? 🙁
They need to revamp the song, but a language change is not necessary.
If you change to English, please don’t ruin the instrumental/orchestration like last year.
Why is it that I don’t think this is a good idea? Could it be because they tried it last year, and it was a major bust, turning a potential top-10 finisher into a non-qualifier?
Last year they made mistake with change language, I think they make mistake and this year. Ballad song from Albania, for me sound so much better in albanian language instead of english . Pop songs sound good in both language albanian or english.
Some countries made mistake when change the language of song, like Croatia 2002, 2004, Sweden in 2004, Iceland in 2007,2011,2012 , Albania in 2014
thank god, I didn’t really dig into it, but maybe it’ll change after I have seen the performance in English and have actually understood what is she singing about.
Good choice
