Earlier in the week we reported that Donny Montell, who previously represented Lithuania at Eurovision 2012, was planning to make a comeback for Eurovision 2016 and wanted to release his national final entry as soon as possible. Well, now his song “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night” is out, and it sounds like Donny is very serious about heading to Stockholm next year.

Both the song and the video have seen Donny take inspiration from across the Baltic. The song has been written by Swedish duo Jonas Thander and Beatrice Robertsson, while the video was filmed in Stockholm. But it’s all still very much Donny Montell.

The song is an uplifting tale of a man who has his broken heart mended when he meets the right person – at least for one night. It has a strong, uplifting chorus with the potential to deliver a great ESC performance.

But first Donny and his song will have to make it through Lithuania’s notoriously complicated national selectionEurovision Atranka 2016. In order to secure the ticket to Stockholm, he’ll need to make it through the voting stages of four different shows in the nine-episode national-final series.

Donny Montell – “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night”

“I’ve Been Waiting For This Night” lyrics – Donny Montell

Here we are together, you and I (I)
Watching lights surround us, feel the night (night)

I was living in the dark
Try to heal my broken heart
Until now
Here we are together you and I (I)

For a thousand years, through a million tears
With a hungry heart, every day apart
I’ve been waiting for this night, I’ve been waiting for this night

When I see your smile and your beautiful eyes
I get lost in time, now I know that I
I’ve been waiting for this night, I’ve been waiting for this night

If only I could stay here by your side (side)
To promise you forever here tonight (night)

There is nothing I can’t do
That can take my heart from you
Always yours
If only I could stay here by your side (side)

For a thousand years, through a million tears
With a hungry heart, every day apart
I’ve been waiting for this night, I’ve been waiting for this night

When I see your smile and your beautiful eyes
I get lost in time, now I know that I
I’ve been waiting for this night, I’ve been waiting for this night

Oh oh oh….

Here we are together you and I

Donny Montell is the Lithuanian version of ‘Baby Face Sakis’…he just needs to do a round off flip-flop on stage and he’s all good.
As far as the song goes, it belongs to the cookie-cutter music genre…you’ve heard it all before, but you don’t mind giving it a go because that’s your comfort zone music. I would rather be ‘waiting for tonight’ with Jennifer Lopez and see ‘A million stars tonight’ with Luminta, but I’ll settle for a Million tears and a thousand micro-points instead.

Wow, a really good effort – way better than his 2012 entry.
I’m sure Lithuania would crack the left side of the scoreboard with this. Go Donny!

Love this song! The whole time I was hoping he’d take his shirt off and tease us with those abs… but oh well! I’m hoping Lithuania will have even better entries this year, but if this gets chosen I won’t be disappointed. Also love Erica Jenning’s entry “Leading Me Home”.

Definitely better than any lithuanian entry in the latest years… but that’s about it. Beyond that I don’t hear anything special here.

I quite like this but I agree its a bit early to release the song especially because someone else might actually be singing this in Stockholm – I think a female singer belting this song out would be much better (but thats just my opinion).

Off topic: I’ve just stumbled across some of the Latvian songs and there is one that I acidentally clicked called ‘Follow Me’ – If anyone knows who performs it, please tell?

I doubt it’s a winner of ESC but will probably be a best shot for Lithuania this year.

Erica Jennings from Skamp Lithuania 2001 for me have better song for Lithuania 2016 . She is from Ireland I think.

Whereas Love Is Blind was just plain awful, this is distinctly average…

Quite a good song. Much more contemporary than your average Lithuanian entry. As you guys said, it has a very Donny-feel which is always good; a bit of authenticity. Should easily win the Lithuanian SONG vote (not sure about the singer vote) unless Fredrik Kempe has decided to submit a song to Lithuania LOL

That said, it is not yet perfect – but it’s good they’ve released it so early; they’ve time to revamp the song a little bit. Not much, mind.

Besides the dress am I the only one who really enjoyed Vilija Mataciunaite??

Donny’s song is fantastic. I give it a 75% chance of making it out of the Semi-Finals.

What bugs me the most about Lithuania’s national selection is that it’s like they’ve tried to do what Germany did in 2010 by having a singing competition.
But have also decided to have a song competition at the same time. URRRGGGHHHHH…..
JUST PICK ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very 2009-ish sound …. Escada meets Aram MP3 spiced up with some R&B like chorus. But yeah, better than average.

Looks like I’m the only one who preferred love is blind. This will probably win the national selection but I’d only give it a 50/50 chance to make it out of the semi final at eurovision.

Sounds like a winning song, too. Imagine if he wins the 2016 contest and sings this after he was announced as the winner. It fits!

This song is great! A lot better than his 2012 entry 🙂

For the staging I have a vision in white and orange/gold-ish. LRT call me

This song is sooo good!! Much stronger than Love is Blind and I’m sure if he goes to Stockholm he will do very well! But yes I agree with the other comments that it depends on the staging.

Quite a good song! The chorus is pretty strong, I like it 🙂 I agree with Robyn tho, they need to be very careful about the staging here. But there’s a great potential!

That guy is just stunning. I like the song, it’s a lot better than Lithuania’s previous entries. If it doesn’t do better than their horrible entry in 2013 (which was the worst song I’ve ever heard) I will probably be mad. And I’m happy that it’s recorded in Stockholm!

I don t like it. 100 % better song is Love is Blind.Lithuania have chance with this song for final , only if they have 6 countires from URRS in their semifinal, plus Ireland,UK .
