Austria is hoping to bounce back from last year’s nil points disaster and they believe that Zoë is the best act to do that. Tonight, during the Wer singt für Österreich? final, they chose Zoë as their Eurovision 2016 representative with the song “Loin d’ici”. Next stop? Stockholm!
The 10 finalists all performed their entries before televoters and the expert juries cast their votes. Tonight’s jury panel consisted of Austrian singer Madita, “Satellite” composer Julie Frost and Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst. Several Austria media experts combined their votes as the fourth juror. They all evaluated the 10 finalists and marked them out of 40. Once all the votes were counted and verified, the top two acts — Elly V and Zoë — advanced to the super-final.

Jury Results
Super-final
The two super-finalists performed their entries again and it was all down to the televoting public. In the end, Zoë came out on top and will be flying the flag for Austria at Stockholm! She will perform somewhere in the second half of the first semi-final (as a result of the semi-final allocation draw).
Are you happy with the result? Who do you think should have won? Let us know below!
I am starting to like this. The song and her voice are beautiful. But I don’t like the toxic mushrooms and her looks. Indeed they somehow managed a beautiful woman to look like a teenager with acne and braces.
On first listen, I found Elly’s song more interesting & catchier.
Zoe is playing the “forest fairy” card & that never works for me. I think the jury got it right.
Oh well, let’s see how Zoe scores.
I wanted Sankil so bad >_>
I believe Austria will make it to the final. Pretty sure Czech Republic, San Marino, France and Spain will award them with higher points.
I have a feeling that “Loin d’ici” will be big in the OGAE voting as well. It has the lovely very-Eurovision feeling “Crisalide” and “Same Heart” had.
You have to move forward. You can not pay attention all the time on the same nonsense! Come on!
Austria will always bad odds, but this is an improvement since before yesterday. Even Conchita had bad figures until she arrived in Copenhagen and gained momentum.
Fun fact for me is that in yesterday’s final of ten, more props were present than in the entire Eurovision last year including semis…. 😛
I hope to see Elly V soon again in for Eurovision, her bid this year was amazing.
1. Ireland/Belgium
3. Belarus/Spain
5. Albania
6. Austria/Malta
@ Österrike I did not see the final. But my impression from the two videos here is that the producers gave signs of clear favouritism to Olly V by giving her a much sleeker and more modern staging (ok apart from the shirtless dancers which was too much) plus the cheering crowd etc. On the other hand not only was Zoe’s staging quite kitschy but they also managed to make her look not that good-looking – which is quite a feat when you have such a beautiful girl. The fact that she prevailed in the end only goes on to show… Read more »
@ Ivan
Zoe will definitely be in the final and a cerrtain top-10 for Austria in May.
Not bad…
1.Spain,Still the best
2.Belgium,Really proud of this song
3.Austra,Not bad
4.Malta,Averange…

7.Belarus,No comment :/
Good Song for the 60s:
1.Belgium

3.Albania
4.Ireland
5.Austria
6.Malta
7.Belaruss
This is one of the National finals’ disadvantages-somethimes the public chose very bad song and the broadcaster can’t do anything but then they are disappointed from the result despite knowing that the song is awful. Maybe Austria won’t qualify because the first semifinal is way too strong so 13th place is my prediction.
Uros Malta nije u nasem polufinalu. Irska jeste. Read more »
I dont know what the show choreographer Marvin Dietmann was thinking, when he gave Orry a Heroes 2.0 or Lia an Aliona-meets-Polina-staging. He was the designer for Conchita’s victory and now he is running out of ideas? I also think it was not his best idea to give Elly V the shadow performance. Yes it is kinda impressive, but Greta Salome and Isa, who are probable winners in their respective preselections already had similar inspirations. No one will win with shadow acting or holograms this year. At least Zoe, who had my favourite song, also got a memorable acid crack… Read more »
They should have had her walking the yellow brick road. I kinda liked the song before it had the revamp with the lame beats, and the live version is just too much. I hope the Eurovision crowd has moved beyond this kind of kitsch (although I’m afraid in Holland it hasn’t).
pole
you take the words out my mouth i’ve been thinking the same!
@EugeneESCUK
that’s because elly brought her group of friends with her in the audience and they kept cheering for her.
Not bad but I’m not loving it. It can get a bit too boring and I thought it lasted way more than three minutes, which is never a good sign. Anyway, good luck Austria, Zoë is a fantastic performer in any terms.
1. Malta
2. Albania
3. Spain
4. Austria
5. Belarus
6. Ireland
7. Belgium
It’s sweet an charming, perhaps a little too sugary and all that walking looks exhausting, but with some tweaks I think it’s a good choice.
My top 7 so far:
1. Spain
2. Austria
3. Ireland
4. Albania
5. Belarus
6. Malta
7. Belgium
WOWWWWW, this is actually very good!!! I hope it qualifies, really. My top:
1. Austria
2. Spain
3. Malta
4. Albania
5. Belarus
6. Ireland
7. Belgium
Kisses from The Netherlands
it looks and sounds ridiculous. the other one is more interesting, but a little undeciding
Probably the right choice. Change the staging though!
Zoë should’ve represented Austria last year with Quel Filo. I think she won it this year because of popularity from competing previously. The song is ok and I love the staging too~!
What a bizarre choice. It’s not bad…just strange.
The old guy myself loves it too. I think this will get a lot of dinasour votes!
I really perfered Elly, but Zoe is still good. My top 7
1. Spain
2.Malta
3.Albania
4.Austria
5. Belgium
6.Ireland
7.Belarus
Elly V was more modern than all the entries I heard this year on Melodifestivalen and all National Finals for that matter.
Zoë is a WONDERFUL choice too, girl has the voice and the performance is stunning ……And the song is gorgeous gives me Eurovision winner vibes from the golden years (when a good song basically had the chance to win.)
I really hope for an Austrian top 10 return in the final this year.
First Salome. Now Elly. Tomorrow Isa. I think the hot staging this year is “shadows” whether through lighting or LED. Seems like everyone is trying to do their twist on Mans show of last year.
With all the guys singing it’s different. And it being sung in French is sure to keep it different.
It’s a sweet song that I wouldn’t mind having as background music while doing something else, but I don’t know how well it will work in the contest. I don’t think it’s strong enough to get that high but could get few points here and there.
Have to wait to see how it will work!
PP, pa zasto Maltu i Irsku na poslednjem mestu? Oni ce nam biti najjaca konkurencija u polufinalu.
What a dull and boring song (Before anyone moans I’m from Luxembourg so I’m fluent in French and German) It’s like if Anna Rossinelli had no personality or stage presence and sung in French. This has to compete with 17 other songs and some of those countries are heavy hitters. On a good day this could come 13th and on a bad day 17th in the semi. Does Austria only have Conchita as a good artist? Just because the song is in French doesn’t mean France will give Austria top points. (even if they did would 12 points rreally make… Read more »
Austria is definitely not getting my vote….
Finally, after a string of weak countries, Austria sends a strong one. With Zoë going to Stockholm, Autriche va gagner. Pourquoi pas?
Austria song is sound like entries from Luxembourg in the 80 ties.
1. Spain
2. Belgium
3. Belarus
4. Albania
5. Austria
6. Malta
7. Ireland
I have to say, Austria might go neutral because she will represent Austria in French? Maybe France can outlie this. Had Vincent became a superfinalist, it remains the same. Neutral to moderate high likely chance of qualification.
If Belgium ages ago sang in a made up language, Austria can sing in French. Anyway, sweet song, too sweet and the background didn’t help. You got to lower the sweetness man. Good luck to all in the final.
Finally, Austria makes the right decision and sends a wonderful act! Loved her performance, voice and staging…well done! This goes right to my numero uno! I’m sure this will send Austria right into the final and on the left side of the scoreboard! Felicitations, Zoe!
Song is horible. Who voted for this trash?
It pains me to say this, because I love Zoe and that her song is different from the usual, but I thought Elly deserved the win.
I’m so f*ckin glad the people didn’t actually listen to the jury. They were trying to impose Elly V and the people simply chose the best act: ZOE!
Thanks for trolling the Jury, Austrian people 😀
is it me or it is a very dated song…
Apparently the only language most people are comfortable to sing in other than your native language is English. Get over it. It’s great to hear songs in other languages in something called EUROvision Song Contest
is she the same Zoe last year with the song Quel Filo?
Not a good decision at all, Austria … I’m sorry 🙁
We’ll have to wait to see the remaining songs, but I don’t see this making it to the final… “I’ll be around” was stronger, not much better tbh.
I don’t want to feed the troll but, @MGR not only the juries chose Barei, but also the televote, so stop with your daily cynical comments. Well, it must be difficult to live so bitter as you …
In love with the song from Autriche
@MGR are you the one previously known as bavarson?
Btw, Barei was also chosen by the audience at home. :))))))))))))))))
At least the jury knew what they were doing.
YAAAY
