She’s the Aboriginal Australian singer who will become the first Australian to appear on two different Eurovision stages. Jessica Mauboy is the fourth person set to compete for Australia at Eurovision, singing “We Got Love” in Lisbon. It’s an upbeat pop song typical to Jessica Mauboy’s catalogue, and currently riding high in the odds.
The lyrics are about fighting against self-hatred and materialism. Jess sings that they are a cycle that needs to be broken using the power of love “I know what you must be thinking / That we are powerless to change things / But don’t, don’t give up / Cause we got love”.
The song is written by Jessica herself with Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci – the same duo who wrote “Sound of Silence” and “Don’t Come Easy” for Australia. They describe the song as “a reminder that love, acceptance and the power of inclusivity can overcome all obstacles or hardships that arise”.
