She rose to fame on The Voice Belgique before placing fourth at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with “City Lights”.

And today Blanche — real name Ellie Delvaux — released the official music video to her follow-up single “Wrong Turn”.

“I’m so happy to share the video for ‘Wrong Turn’ with you,” she wrote on Instagram. “That’s what I’ve been doing in Barcelona.”

Thematically she sings of feeling like a drifter, clearly lost in the romantic world she longs for with that special someone. There’s a strong sense of unrequited love, which works well with her fragility.

Visually there is plenty of strength — and plenty of bright colours to balance out her dark-pop edge.

The video opens with Blanche lying on a bed with her girls, dressed in a rather sexy transclucent dress. As she moves through her stylish home she changes from high fashion look to high fashion look, sporting everything from a metallic orange co-ord to fringy pink dress.

The video melds the sleek and polished with the quirky and avant-garde. She picks up fruit, stands stoic in the kitchen while her girls pass a bouquet of grapes and wraps up in a blue coat as she turns a yellow car into a prop against which she can sing.

Writing on YouTube, “Random Danish Guy” summed it up this way: “Belgish Queen serving Dua Lipa feels. I STAN!”

The meaning of the video is up for debate, but this much is certain: Blanche’s people are investing in her and it shows.

The accompanying artwork, which you can see in the Instagram video below, portrays Blanche as some sort of ice bride.

Her face is seen in close-up with luminous blue-green eye shadow that resembles a smear of paint, and a translucent veil that frames her face beautifully.

Following Eurovision 2017, she cut a commercial trail across Europe with her song “City Lights” charting on Spotify in nearly 20 countries and eventually going platinum at home.

The song cements Blanche’s place in the dark-pop genre, bringing together a sense of melancholy, longing and digital sounds.

WRONG TURN lyrics — Blanche

Should I take any wrong turn?
Any more time, should I?
Did I get any more words?
Will it get worse this time?

[Pre-Chorus] Maybe I’m a drifter
Maybe I’m a drifter, baby
Never meet your heroes
Never meet your heroes, they say
Maybe I’m addicted
I’m addicted too soon

[Chorus] Don’t know how to make it up
Baby you should make it stronger
Throw it out and blaze it up
Do it till it wakes the thunder
Real slow
There’s way down
There’s still time to raise it, to raise it up

[Verse 2] Will I twist any more words?
Lose any more time, will I?
‘Cause I’ve got many concerns
Feels like it bursts inside

[Pre-Chorus] Maybe I’m a drifter
Maybe I’m a drifter, baby
Never meet your heroes
Never meet your heroes, they say
Maybe I’m addicted
I’m addicted too soon

[Chorus] Don’t know how to make it up
Baby you should make it stronger
Throw it out and blaze it up
Do it till it wakes the thunder
Real slow
There’s way down
There’s still time to raise it, to raise it up

[Bridge] Will I twist any more words?
Lose any more time, will I?
‘Cause I’ve got many concerns
Feels like it bursts inside
Not without you

[Chorus] Don’t know how to make it up
Baby you should make it stronger
Throw it out and blaze it up
Do it till it wakes the thunder
Real slow
There’s way down
There’s still time to raise it, to raise it up
Don’t know how to make it up
Baby you should make it stronger
Throw it out and blaze it up
Do it till it wakes the thunder

her song has Lorde vibes, sounds good, I’d like to understand the concept of lyrics
I don’t feel New Rules inspiration, I guess the aesthetic references for her music video comes from a movie that I have seen before.

you said nothing wrong I came to the same conclusion when I heard the song and the video is somehow reminiscent to Dua Lipa’s new rules, but if you’d slightly imply such atrocity people would get butt-hurted and give you a dislike.
Do not worry mate, on the positive side, I like her song, even if it sounds like something that could have came out of Lorde’s Royals.
