It’s Halloween and the ghouls and goblins have hit the streets. From children dressed as the living dead to haunted houses bedecked in cobwebs and flames, there are plenty of frights to be had. But perhaps the best spooks come from Candy, the new five-track EP from Loïc Nottet.
The culmination of years of planning, Candy may be Loïc’s darkest project ever. It’s brought to life by a Halloween-themed short film that’s driven by his tracks, which run the gamut from over-the-top cabaret to darker art-pop. Running for 21 minutes, it follows a mad clown as he seeks revenge against an evil witch. You know it’s going to be dark from the moment he utters his first sinister words: “She deserves it.”
Apparently this witch did some rather dirty deeds to Loïc, who portrays a Joker-like figure with aplomb — all smeared make-up and crazy eyes. “I remember being left in a cage,” he says. “Waiting for the witch.” He later sings of making her pay, of “eating juicy meat” and more.
As the film progresses he gathers friends — equally outré and bewildering — and they head to the witch’s gingerbread palace. It’s covered in delectable cream — our hero even has a lick before entering her dark layer which is as devilish as you’d expect. When revenge comes will it be sweet? And what does the victor actually win? You’ll have to watch to find out.
Loïc is over-the-dark-moon about it all.
“I’m really proud to present to you my new short film Candy,” he wrote on Instagram. “I want to thank all the people who contributed to this project that is so particularly important to me! I hope you’ll like it as much as I do!”
“All the teams have worked so hard to make this short-film come to life!! Making this project was a dream come true that I never thought would be possible! Thanks to you guys and my team Halloween will never be the same for me!”
“This story is now yours and I hope you will love it as much as we do! A massive Thank you for believing in my crazy ideas! And one last time HAPPY HALLOWEEN”

What do you think of the EP and short film? Did you watch all 21 minutes? What’s your favourite scene? Let us know in the comments box below.
Loïc Nottet is the most talented artist of his generation. He deserves worldwide recognition. He can sing, dance, compose, design clothes, act and he’s an animal on stage. Someone should give him the lead role in a movie or musical. It’s really his cup of tea. He never ceases to amaze me with his talents.
Musical theatre at it’s best. Great stuff.
It’s perfection. Love the songs but the film itself is so beautifully made. Amazing artist, brilliant choreography. The talent and creativity just pours out of him. Love it!
Really boring. I’m tired of his dark style.
Me too. It’s fine for Halloween, but he is always like that. I start to worry for him. Polina Gagarina is pretty dark too.
Wait for the new album then. I saw Loïc perform in Brussels and Paris for the avant-première of his new album and it’s really funky . Most songs are really different from Selfocracy (btw I adored Selfocracy, but the new album is more happy, funky,… )
Loic is such an artistic man. He has a uniques style of seeing and making things. I adore his inspiration and passion to do all of his artpieces. The short film was impactful and the EP gave me literally goosebumps. Loic should be known worldwide. He is one of the most creative artists on this planet right now. Love<3
The short film has already been at least 3 times on tv in 2 days here in Belgium. We also saw an interview of Loïc. This guy always surprises me and I hope his career will continue to grow this way!
I haven’t watched this yet, but I already now: he’s awesome, there’s nothing he can’t pull off, once again great work. He should represent Belgium two or three more times because he’s just THAT good. Also: his face is perfect for Halloween roles. He should play the lead in the next season of American Horror Story.
