The 71st edition of the Sanremo Music Festival has come to an end with a twist: rock band Måneskin won the crown and the traditional leoncino — the little golden lion awarded to the sanremese winner.
The quartet launched by X Factor Italy immediately caught the audience’s attention with electrifying performances of their powerful entry “Zitti e buoni”, but they were not on the podium in the provisional ranking before the start of the final, reached instead thanks to the support of the televote.
But will Måneskin represent Italy at the Eurovision in Rotterdam? The confirmation should arrive in the coming hours, during the traditional press conference that usually follows the final of the kermesse. However, for this year, it has been postponed to Sunday morning, at 11.30 CET
In case they refuse, RAI will internally choose another of the 25 singers in the competition, regardless of their final ranking.
Sanremo 2021 final results
The overall combined results throughout the week consisted of televoting (25%), the press jury (25%), the orchestra (25%) and the demoscopic poll (25%). All 26 finalists started off with the scores achieved in the four previous evenings behind them when they performed their entries on the night judged by televoting.
After the first round of voting, Ermal Meta, Francesca Michielin & Fedez and Måneskin advanced to the second and last round. Here all the scores were reset to zero and the demoscopic jury (33%), the press room (33%) and the televote (34%) came back into play. In the end, it was Måneskin who emerged triumphant!

Who are Sanremo 2021 winners Måneskin?
Måneskin (Danish for ‘moonshine’) is an Italian rock band from Rome, consisting of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. The band rose to fame after ending up second in the eleventh series of the Italian series of X Factor in 2017.
Immediately after the talent show, they skyrocketed in the charts, collecting several platinum records thanks to the first single “Chosen” and the songs included in the debut album “Il ballo della vita”: “Morirò da re”, “L’altra dimensione”, “Le parole lontane” and the super hit #1 in the Italian FIMI Singles Chart and 5x platinum “Torno a casa”.
Before participating at Sanremo they released the single “Vent’anni” which will be part of the new album “Teatro d’ira: Vol.1” out on March 19, 2021.
Do you like “Zitti e buoni” by Måneskin? Would you like to see the band go to Rotterdam in May? Share your thoughts below!
Ha, h?, ?, ?! ! ! 🙂
Love the band, lyrics and music!
The best of luck for Italy! 😉
It’s fresh, kicking and enjoyable. Finally I found a band that satisfies my music taste. 😀
P. S. Let’s rock! 😉 😉
If my country will not win I want this to win. It is amazing
In the first televote of the night (with 26 artists), they arrived 2nd with 13% after Michielin/Fedez (16%). Then in the top3 final, they won the televote with a landslide of votes, probably because people that voted for other excluded artists (Irama, Annalisa, Madame etc) voted also for them.
In general their voters are definitely NOT 50+. Many Italian ESC-fans every year have suggested them as a perfect contestant for ESC. Indeed, the demographic of their voters is mostly in the range 18-35, and it is easy to verify it on the different social media.
In love with Maneskin and “Zitti e buoni”
Good luck to Italy.
But Irama fans let’s cry here.
La genesi del tuo colore and La ragazza con il cuore di latta are the great ESC songs we never had.
Two really great songs but in eurovision they would both do bad
Italy went from my absolute #1 last year to the bottom of my list this year.
It definitely doesn’t sound “Italian” in the traditional sense. Even “Soldi” was undeniably the kind of song you could only get from Italy. But that uniqueness is going to make it stand out, I think.
Now its italy on place 4, on the bettinglist. Whay, its awfull. Its not a song, itsa screem
Agree
LOVE IT
Insane improvement from Diotato holy heck
I´m happy for them but Irama deserved better.. He should be in the top 3 at least imo. I know that he was disadvantaged because of corona but his song is a banger and he was already really good in a rehearsal, just imagine him live.. Being 5th with just one rehearsal footage speaks volumes about how good he is! Wish he got a real chance is all I´m saying
He explained himself multiple times and it was just a misunderstanding, besides we´re not judging his personality here but how good his voice and music are
OMG. italy has right now go upp to the 6th place on the bettinlist HOW. This is awful. Its gonna be a ESC whit bad songs this year.
Italy was at 7th in the odds even before Sanremo tbh…
And today in 6th place
And now 4th haha loving this cuz their getting hate but y‘all see y‘all gonna vote for them at the end. And honestly I love the song even though I never listen to rock songs. Måneskin are just so cool and talented. I love them and I support them 100%
Agree
Bottom
You called?
It reminds me Seven nation army which I very much dislike, so I guess it’s no wonder that this isn’t my cup of tea.
How does it remind you of Seven Nation Army? 😮
I think it’s the base line. Not that it’s the same melody, but similar sound to it – tbh it reminds me the band who did the Seven nation army, but I forgot what’s their name and am too lazy to look it up. Kinda like hearing Blind Channel their base line immediately reminded me Korn.
The chorus and riff reminds me of Figure it out by royal blood but not in a bad way, I’m very much appreciating the diversity from the Sixth actual band (not group) participating this year
That’d be The white stripes. You’re welcome.
That song is already a Eurovision winner, at least legally.
Well this is an unexpected entry from Italy but damn. I’m not a rock fan at all, but this has such a ball to the walls speed that I just can’t dislike. As long as rock has a kind of melody, I can still like it. I loved Manga for instance. Zitti e Buoni is less melodic but the rapid fire Damiano has when he’s bursting out the lyrics is impressive. I like Italy is sending something we don’t necessarily expect from them. Also, those skin suits are sexy as hell.
Agree
Straight to the bottom of my list.
Off-topic: OMG guys if Adrenalina is really Senhit’s rumoured Eurovision Song, we might see Valentina’s backyard 2023 lmao
Joke aside, the song is really good in relation to San Marino’s niveau
Agreed! It’s REALLY good!
Senhit tries too hard to be “freaky” and “different” but it just cheapens the experience.
Hahaha oh my, just when you thought you saw everything at eurovision Senhit ends up joining forces with freaking Flo rida!
wait is it actually with flo rida WHAT
Oh my, if that is really San Marino’s entry, we have definite winner material, it’s amazing and I love Flo Rida!
It IS the entry! Official channel posted a teaser of her song and it is Adrenalina! Featuring Flo Rida!
If it gets chosen as ESC entry it would be a good choice! something different than the usual Italian stuff they usually send. Now problem is it would compete for the same crowd as Finland and I think Finland will win that battle! But a good song none the less..
I wouldn‘t compare them but I prefer Italy
Rotterdam 2021 is the year of the bands:
And who knows, Belarus might even send a band.
9 groups, 1 duo, 30 soloists? Its not year of bands. It is one of the lowest number in history. Pity, groups bring originality and true music, because they make it by own with love. Not like divas with generic Swedish songs.
Oh, I thought the amount of bands was more than usual, that’s why I called it the year of the bands. My bad, I guess.
I say it again. Hope Italy wins ESC, but this is so so bad. You don’t deserve it this year. Francesca or Ermal must go to Rotterdam. What a bad year. I understand you are very defensive, because you think about their feelings, but is just bad.
Out of that top 3 Maneskin was the only act that has the potential to end up in the top 3.
Italy made the best choice for Eurovision.
In other news we now have the names of 36 of the 40 artists of ESC21! We’re only missing Russia, Sweden, Poland and Belarus
Ok, so who is representing Sweden?
Lynda Woodruff
Greta Thunberg?
and Malta??
We already know it’s Destiny
“And finally the Italian 12 points go to.. Finland!”
“The Finnish 12 points are going to.. Italy!”
I think you missed the obvious one:
“12 points from the Danish jury go to…Maneskin! Congratulations, Italy!”
The holy trinity! Can we get Slovenia’s Ana to shout Amen!
Let’s address the elephant in the room: who do you think will do best between Finland and Italy?
Italy is better produced. Finland is good too but it’s relying on the overused “Ah ah ahhhahh” in the hook.
Given Italy is already pre-qualified for the final, it’s already out in front.
This ah ah ahhhh was the one that last month people was calling catchy, and now that mother Italy send a rock song too… suddenly ah ah ahhh is not catchy but overused… yeah yeah fire!!!!
@Otis
Well I can’t speak for everyone, but I know myself I have felt it was overused and have done since the beginning.
Sorry I gave a different opinion to you, but that’s life.
Italy isn’t my mother either so I dunno what you mean by that.
I wish I was Italian though 🙂
Big 5 are just fillings. No effort. Who knows , maybe UK has a surprise.
@Coco
Italy and France usually save the big 5 in my opinion.
Can’t believe saying this but I think Italy is really good this year (yes, I have disliked their past few entries). And in comparison to Finland, I clearly prefer the Italian song. As you said, I also think that this kind of “aah” or “Iii’m” hook is nothing really new and sounds kind of worn-out to me.
@Christian
Totally.
They are completely different types of rock songs so I don’t think they necessarily compete with one another. Italy is an artsy, classic rock inspired song and Finland is an angsty Nu metal inspired song. It is a bit like saying which ballad will do best – France or Slovenia – they are completely different in my opinion and not necessarily competing for the same votes.
To me these songs are very different. But I understand that they feel similar to people who don’t listen to either of those genres regularly. I don’t need to put the other song down to lift the other up. I can like them both at the same time.
The Finish song is easier to sing along as it’s English 😉
But both are amazing! Both in My Top 5 so far.
Finland. Iraly in the bottom
Finland will do better in Western countries who typically enjoy the more commercial songs. Italy will do better in Eastern countries who typically vote for standout acts not trying to appeal as much to the mainstream market. Juries have more Western taste and will uplift Finland, thus Finland will do better but it depends on the running order in the final. I’d be surprised to see any of them outside the top 10 in televote but Måneskin needs to put on a show to get there, they need to be all out there and not be so ”safe” as the… Read more »
A rock song winner of San Remo?!…wow, that was a surprise
The Ark history 2007 Sweden is going to be repeated!!! its so funny that bookies did not put money that Maneskin will win San Remo at all (even during San Remo) and now they put money that they will win ALL ESC… Is insane how much some countrys are always fan favourites (some of you didnt even hear the song) .. Mediocre! finally smth that proves that Bookies and biased ESC fans and not something different , that some people tend to say!!
Måneskin were literally in the top5 of the Sanremo betting odds .. what are you talking about? And Italy’s position in the ESC betting odds has not particularly progressed since yesterday so I don’t know what you’re addressing? Do you see things in your head? It’s time to call a specialist
I suppose you see bets only the last 1 hour or something? cause bets exist 1 month now and the shows of san remo where 4 days before where maneskin never appeared in top 5 until friday!!! and never top 3!!! Top 5 in 26 songs that change every single day does not prove that where bookies favourite. This is as flat for opinion as your brain!!! Italy was always top7 yes and that is what i am talking about. It wasnt 7th cause of maneskin appearance but cause was Italy and whatever song would send it would grow up… Read more »
Is everything okay at home maam?
Just idiots don‘t change opinion, bye girl
Excuse my ignorance, but why the comparison to The Ark’s 2007 entry? The only slight similarity is their styling/appearance. I wouldn’t have known about betting odds back then so I’m guessing it’s that? Enlighten me!
Staright into my top 3 with Finland and France.Bravo Italia
Same. In which order do you have it? For me it is:
whichever song comes from Italy(even this general song) .. the fans are ready to eat it.!!! Nobody expected the last weeks that maneskin was about to win and bookies where having Italy 7th.. now that a mediocre song won again Italy is about to be top 1 or 2!! The bookies did not even put money on bet for maneskin ton win in San Remo and now putting bets that Maneskin will win ALL ESC. This is insane and is totally fake. whichever song was going to win Bookies where ready to put money to Italy (like all the years… Read more »
I guess my name is Nobody.
if you believe this for yourself i cant say much but agree!!! Whatever you believe for yourself can be totally accepted!!!
Haha love you
Usually after every national final or song release the country which has chosen/released their act and/or song gets a lot of bets suddenly, thus making most of the countries head to number one on betting odds.
They’ll be more rational after all of the songs are released and clear favourites seem less of a lucky hunch. Don’t worry!
Umm yeah sorry,
zitti & buoni > sugar
Fai rumore > prison
Soldi >>>> stay
Maybe, just maybe people like Italy because most san remo songs are actually good?
You can’t use bookmakers odds as some kind of validity of anything for Sanremo. Bookmakers have no clue if a song is good or not in Sanremo because they are NOT released beforehand. From tuesday to friday the odds just adapt to the Sanremo ranking of that night. Even when they were behind it was pretty clear that Fedez/Michielin had a good shot for the top3, as well as Måneskin (I didn’t expect they were 2nd in the televote, but everyone with a little bit of insight in Sanremo would have placed them in the range 2nd-4th at the televote).… Read more »
A decent but rather average rock song. The beauty and melodiousness of Italian language give it the illusion of being better than it actually is.
This song has been haunting me since last night… It went straight to my number 2. The studio version is so damn hot ! Those instruments, that drive, the video. And it stands out in a live setting. I want Maneskin to go to Rotterdam and rock the freakin house !
Go Italy Go
play it LOUD
the maneskin song makes the usual plastic Swedish pop songs look like 30 years ago, 90s!
Why you only compare to Sweden? And fans wonder about swedes attitude.. I think this a perfect example of fans bashing Sweden when there infact are lots of countries sending “plastic songs”. But there are good plastic songs and bad plastic songs.
I remember that you, Milla, were comparing Sweden’s Tusse to the french entry.. Do you remember what you said, because I think many of us here do 🙂
If Swedens song so old. Whay are there so many contrys in Europe whant Sweden to wrote the song. Sweden have wrote 2 winners, and 2nd placesh for auther contrys. Write your own songs.
Straight into my top 10. This is brilliant. I love how each year, Italy is not afraid to try something different. They bring something different but yet typically Italian at the same time and I love it.
I feel every year that goes by, they are getting closer to winning.
I love this! But I think Finland’s song might be a bit more popular because it has more of a pop-sound to it than this.
I think Finland would have the edge probably in the younger demographic, if my teenage years were anything to go by (I virtually loved anything Finnish or rock/metal/punk so songs like Dark Side bring back memories). 😛 I like both and would happily vote for both.
While they weren’t my winner, I’m as always excited for Italy! It’ll be nice to have two different rock bands in Eurovision if they indeed do agree to go to Rotterdam. They do remind myself of a few rock groups here in the UK, which is probably a bonus. 😛
I! LOVE! IT!
I thought ESC would start and we would be still watching San Remo! Just kidding.
I like the winner, some fresh air, something different. In fact, half ah the songs in San Remo were far better than what we have already in ESC 21. Not my winner, but direct to my top 5 together with France, Spain, Ireland and Albania. If they go to ESC, I hope they keep it in Italian.
Sorry, Italy! Finland has done it better.
I really don’t understand why you’re laughing with Benji for just having another opinion.
they definitely will say yes haha. i’m personally not a fan, but i acknowledge they’ll do well so i wish them the best
In case this should represent Italy… I do appreciate the fact for trying something different. And between all the mediocre “popsongs” that have been chosen so far this will stand out. But because this pretty much is fishing in the same pond as Finland, .then I will always prefer the song of Finland over this.
They tick all the boxes don’t they? Fantastic energy, catchy hook, hot looks. I think they will do very nicely.
Italy my number one. So happy for Maneskin. This is bringing diversity and quality to this mediocre Eurovision year so far.
I’m Italian and for me this year was tragic. I hated all the entries, I feel that my country hit a stumbling block and are unable to pass it, they all make the same style of music for some reason and is not very appealing to me. It was hilariously tragic that the only one to save the night was the old singer Orietta Berti… I’m also surprised to see so many romanians in the comments dissing their own entry. I mean, is one of the best songs by far in this competition. At this point I am cheering hard… Read more »
What does demoscopic mean?
Anyway the winning song is freaking awesome!! A rock’n’roll song in Italian! I hope they keep the orchestral part because I think it fits the song perfectly!
Yes, what does demoscopic mean?
basically they are 300 relatives&friends of RAI employees and you can feel it, they rapresent the average man.
The result of the demoscopic jury is the result of 300 random people of the music scene/industry.
No, it’s a sample of 300 common people who are “regular music buyers” (whatever that means)
We still don’t know if this is the song they’ll choose to bring to Rotterdam since per Sanremo rule it’s choosen the artist and not the song. The fact that the previous artists chose to bring their Sanremo songs doesn’t mean it will happen also this time.
There are some chances they will bring this in English or that they will bring a completely new English song since they made a couple of those at the beginning.
Yeah, this would have appened if Sanremo had aired in february as usual but we have a deadline and I think there is no time to prepare a different song from the winner one with his video. Indeed there is no long time to adapt this one let alone to find another one.
I think they are lazy (i.e. smart) enough to stick with their winning song rather than writing and recording another one.
I can’t see this winning eurovision. Top 10 perhaps. I think it’s disadvantage to be a Big 5 country as well. And I can’t say the singer is a good singer. Finland wins the battle, I find their song much better. This is too noisy for my taste.
Well, garage rock has to be loud and noisy, that’s the point. Finnish guys are just amateur wannabees playing faux rock music for 14 year old edgy girls.
For me this is more authentic than Finland.
Finland just brags about being rebellious and stuff, and in combination with their stage performance, it all looks a bit played up, while Maneskin feels more honest, and they are more artistic, which makes me put them above Finland.
Interesting choice from Italy. I like it, right now it climbed to the top of my list. Do we have any idea which artists from Sanremo have signed to go to Eurovision if selected
(And especially if Maneskin have signed for it) ?
Please don’t quote me on this, but I believe they said on Instagram that ‘the winner of sanremo should go to Eurovision’. Apparently they have all but confirmed their participation at Eurovision!
And add Norway to your list!
Most enjoyable, and they appear to buy their clothes in the same shop as Hatari which shows their excellent taste. I was very fond of Francesca & Fedez, but a little of something different is no bad thing.
Although I feel sorry for my favs not even reaching the top 3, and even if the winners (should they accept to go to esc) would not likely be in my esc top 10, I must admit they could do well as they bring something different with the potential to stand out, as Mahmood did two years ago. Good luck, Italy!
