The deadline for countries to confirm their intent to participate in Eurovision 2024 has come and gone, and there are increasingly promising signs that North Macedonia could return to Eurovision in 2024.
While MRT, North Macedonia’s national broadcaster, remains mum on an official confirmation, its newly published proposed program and budget for 2024 includes a paragraph stating that the country intends to participate in next year’s contest, “where Macedonian musical values will be presented through the participating song at this festival”. This paragraph wasn’t present in last year’s budget, when the country withdrew from the contest; though, it was previously noted in budgets ahead of their participation in 2020-2022 — a good sign that a return is possible.
What also initially appears promising is that the broadcaster has also put forth a budget of 1.5 million denars to be allocated towards both Eurovision and Junior Eurovision activities. However, some are sceptical at how MRT plans to cover all things Eurovision-related with what seems to be a fairly meagre budget of around 25,000 euros.
Nevertheless, considering the fact that North Macedonia will be competing in Junior Eurovision this November in Nice and that MRT had previously expressed their interest to return to the contest as soon as possible, signs are pointing towards the country potentially joining back in on the fun.
North Macedonia last competed at Eurovision in 2022 with “Circles” by Andrea, which just missed out on the final after finishing 11th in the second semi-final. MRT then withdrew from the 2023 contest in Liverpool, citing high costs due to the energy crisis. However, it still broadcast all the live shows from earlier this year.
If North Macedonia does indeed make a triumphant return, the 2024 contest will see at least 34 countries competing in Malmö based on the confirmations so far. The EBU will reveal the full list of participating counties towards the end of October.
Are you excited to see North Macedonia potentially return to the Eurovision stage? Who should represent the country? Let us know in the comments.
I always considered their withdrawal as 1-year thing only. I’m sure they will confirm.
I would love to see Aleksandra Janeva on the Eurovision stage in Malmo. Check out her latest masterpiece Utroto ke promeni sè.
Azerbaijan committing more evil atrocities tonight. Meanwhile, Efendi skips around Red Square. I know it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, but I don’t want them back next year.
Azerbaijan is Elitists and a evil , but They Have Resorce and Dark Money so not Enough Care
Im hoping for very loud boos for the Azerbaijani entrant next year.. Or the armenian artist should make a very big scene in the greenroom
Ok I was hangry while typing this. Physical fighting in the greenroom might overdo it.
But the problem is that the Armenians are supported by Putin…..
Putin isn’t good, but it isn’t always black in white. It’s not like Armenia can choose who supports them.
Also, Russia is the closest nation to them that can aid them greatly or would be a good ally.
Apparently, Armenia is distancing itself from Russia anyway.
I´m sorry I was wrong….
Efendi her parents are literal multimillionaires in the oil industry, she’s basically also corrupt tbh
i do still listen to her bangers Mata Hari and Cleopatra though, music and politics should be kept separate from each other
EBU made the right choice, the only choice at expelling Russia, Belarus though, although Belarus’s intended 2021 entry was in the own language and i doubt anyone in western europe would’ve understood that message lols
Even despite many not knowing the lyrical content of the 2021 Belarusian entry, there was a general consensus on the first impression that something seemed off or strange about the entry so even with not knowing the language, had it gone to esc, I dont think it wouldve gotten a good result.
ICH AUCH NICHT!!
this is all but certain. It just a proposed programming for 2024. Here is the article, where MRT does not confirm a participation in Sweden.

North Macedonia is imo one of the nicest countries in the event called Eurovision that they send their artists and their music. That’s something to be lauded. Hopefully they’ll keep doing that in their future participations.
Otherwise they did s*** really bad in 2022 when they mistreated lovely Andrea for the fl a g issue so hopefully their next participant will be appreciated and supported.
Every Country sends Artist and Music , is the Point of the Eurovision . But Macedonia trys Hard and it is a sad thing to see This Country Flop . In the Jesc too Macedonia is really good
They can be good as long as they send authentic entries, nothing too westernized though
Yeah they’re brilliant in jesc, pity they dont place very high in it though.
*Justice* for North Macedonia but imo only if they do keep doing the right thing meaning no sad plastic factory-made imports from the seemingly “known names” or anything Swedish.
Will they? Won’t they? THE MYSTERY!!! But what kind of mystery??
Where’s the news about Fia being chosen for Germany?
Wiwiblogss doesnt report news on jesc with exception of week of the contest itself reporting the winner, polls on who’s your favorite etc.
Hi, good luck with your province’s sjongfestival liet btw
And yes, sadly that is true, jesc have good national selections too, like ours JSF
Junior Eurovision is not a big priority for wiwibloggs. Look up other eurovision new sites for information.
I hope that North Macedonia does return, but from what I’m seeing it is I would say 75-80% chance that they will come back. I hope Montenegro returns as well, as I think Vladana’s performance last year was very under-appreciated, and would love to see them try again. But I always hope as many countries as possible come back to Eurovision each year.
I hope for North Macedonia to come back. Contrary to most Eurofans, I actually liked each of their entries since 2019, even Here I Stand
I probably would agree with this!
Any news from Bulgaria and Montenegro?
I still hold out hope for Bosnia, Hungary, Slovakia and Turkey too.
Bosnia and Slovakia won’t return in 2024, it’s already confirmed. I hope one day we’ll see Turkey and Hungary back but I’m not hoping too much for this year. That’s a bit sad for Turkey when you see how popular some of their entries still are after 10-15 years on Eurovision youtube channel.
Turkey’s entries that make the ESC monthly top 20’s just get rewatched by 90% disgustingly nationalistic Turks themselves. They are STILL salty about Lena winning in 2010. I’d rather not they add more grudges if their precious country loses more often. I know I’m generalizing but it’s still vastly true if you check the YT comments
Zenophobia .
Where’s the lie, though?
we’ll hopefully never see Turkey back, the allies of fascist Azerbaijan
i rather have lesser than more countries in this contest
as for Hungary, hopefully not until 20 more years have passed and Orban gone as president
Quantity before quality, definitely agree!
Slovakia said that they’ll probably return in 2025
Bulgaria has said they won’t return anytime soon.
Hope Sweden pulls out and doesn’t come back in at least a decade
I thought their participation was already confirmed. I’m pretty optimistic they will come back.
What about Montenegro?
I don’t know, I’m not holding my breath for Montenegro. We know Monaco’s not coming back next year, but I don’t blame them because their new channel only just got EBU certification and I think they probably want to work things out before taking on eurovision if they want to do it.
If this turns out to be true, I would not be surprised that north Macedonia could be returning to Eurovision next year. I figured their absence was just a one off thing and the total number could be 39 if Romania stays, or 38 if they leave.
Australia still hasn’t confirmed if their deal with the EBU has been extended, right?
Right, I forgot about Australia. I wouldn’t be surprised if their contract was renewed because we really can’t afford losing more countries right now.
Australia Should Be Replaced for Kazakhstan
I think that ?? i Staying but we should be a bit worried about ????.
Azerbaijan hopefully kicked out by the EBU now they gone way too far, turned into russia 2.0 with their invasion of armenia
so maybe still at 37 or 36
AzerBUYjan will *never* be kicked out from ebu. They’ll always get that “starrrr” treatment. The Swedish-Azeri relationship in the sphere of the televised event called Eurovision runs way too ddeeeepp and wide. Sweden wins in AzerBUYjan? Czeck. Gentle slap on the hand come the vötijng of 2013? Czeck!! Fake “love” relationship in a silly p-r exercise in 2022? CZECK! It s****!!
