The chances of Israel participating at Eurovision 2024 are getting slimmer by the minute. Israeli newspaper Ynet is reporting that “Dancing Forever” — Eden Golan’s alternative to “October Rain” — has also been rejected.

Quoting unnamed sources within the Foreign Ministry, the newspaper reports that “the alternative option has also been ruled out.”

“Dancing Forever” placed second to “October Rain” in the internal selection in Israel. But it reportedly still puts Israel at risk of disqualification.

Eden wrote the song alongside Ron Beaton, Mai Sepadia and Vinon Yahal.

Ynet also published the lyrics of the song, which is predominately in English. The paper did not explain the reasons behind the disqualification.

You’ll remember that “October Rain” was disqualified over its lyrics, which were deemed too political. It was largely assumed that that song referenced the October 7 attacks.

When Belarus submitted a song that was deemed too political in 2021, it was given one chance to resubmit. When the second song was also rejected, Belarus was expelled from the competition.

“Dancing Forever” lyrics — Eden Golan

My mind hiding
I don’t know what’s right
Take me to the right road
There’s no more time and I can’t go wrong
Breath in
I know that i’m strong
I brake all the chains
I’m on the edge now
Watch me fly away

Oh dance like an angel
Oh you will remember
That I will dance forever
I will dance again
Oh dance like an angel

Drowning in the sunrise
My heart is so cold, but my soul is on fire

Someone is calling from paradise

The hope doesn’t stop, it just spreads its wings
It is like a million stars that suddenly light up in the sky
Heart on fire I’m a fighter
Don’t stop the music
Turn it up louder

I spread out me wings
Flying through the sky hear violins
Angels don’t cry
They only sing
Still feel the ground
Beneath my feet

First I gotta say that, being fair, Israel should be banned as Russia was back then no matter which song they send, BUT this been said…. I don’t find the “political” or break of the rules in the lyrics of this song (well, I also didn’t find those elements in the 2nd Belarussian song back then). So maybe EBU is just looking for an excuse to ban Israel but not saying that it is for the war

And the problem is not the pro-pal ‘mob’. The problem is the actions of Israel, who are currently occupying themselves with being hellbent on destroying L3ban0n, Syr1a as well as Pal35t1n3. They’re the ones creating the mob through their despicable actions. But as always, the v1ctim is Israel.

Evil is evil …regardless. And the irony is that Israel is a country who experienced decimation first hand….yet they have turned in to bloodthirsty barbarians themselves.

The body count is stacking up and although the scales of tyranny are immeasurable, Israel has proven itsself to be a major player in the destruction, pillaging, annihilation and murder of thousands of innocent civilians. And now we see the numbers rise beyond that as they now interfere with other Muslim countries. They won’t stop because that’s just who they are and the world can now see them for what they truly are. Today I watched in terror some images where we could see hundreds of Palestinians throwing themselves at food when they were suddenly killed by an Israeli army missile. The images were taken from a drone. Will you also justify these murders of hungry people? Were they terrorists too? Are all Palestinians terrorists? Until recently I sympathized with the Hebrew people for what they suffered almost a century ago but I can no longer support this and the saddest thing is to see how the Jews themselves allow so much death every day. Only you can stop the deaths.

It is not antisemitic to shut Israel out of Eurovision. Jews from all over the world are allowed to take part in Eurovision… Antisemitic would be if they also kicked Tali out of the competition I guess. But there might be some anti-zionism going on, and rightfully so.

I’m getting tired of people yelling antisemitism for antizionism. Learn the difference.

Agree, me too! This is what they educate and tell them in Israel, quite scary actually. Too radical for my liking. Before I’m accused of being antisemitic too, please note that I am Jewish. Anyone who speaks out against the government, they retaliate by using the antisemitic card always. This is a sure sign of weakness, which Israel should not be. Personally, I think Israel should step out for a year from taking part. We don’t want any white-washing or pink-washing. Saving face is important. Dignity, humility, humanity and respect, there is a long way to go to get this… Read more »

Look at my comment above to Robert and tell me what you think of that.
Tell me how that sounds radical to you.
Jews can still be antisemitic, if they express those thoughts.
Not saying you’re one, just a response to what you said.

Well, educate us, if you know the difference.
Zionism is supporting the Jews’ right to have their own country in their homeland (just like any other nation in the world).
If a person denied that right just for the Jews but not anyone else, that makes them, infact, antisemitic.
Antizionism is simply the modern antisemitism.

There’s no difference. Antizionism is antisemitism and if you don’t know that then you’re the one who needs to learn.

Even though I was part of the team that wants Israel out at least for this year, I really don’t see how those lyrics can be a problem. 1944 was way worse.
That being said, the lyrics here really aren’t a masterpiece…

I think Israel should just stay out of the contest this year and come back next year or in 2 years depending on the evolution of the current events and they should come back with Eden.

We should also keep in mind that there are a lot of rumours. These lyrics might not be the final product as well. I mostly think it’d be unfair to disqualify us after being attacked like that yet to keep others, like Ukraine and hopefully no one else in the future. Israelis want something simple this year – to feel heard and express their pain. I’m sure all sane people in Europe can listen to a song about the pain after a terr0r attack and sympathise with it. Don’t have to vote for us, just give us the place to… Read more »

Are you seriously saying that it is unfair to keep Ukraine in the contest?!? Are you mad or something? There is a huge difference between Ukraine and Israel. Ukraine has been under constant siege and attacks since 2022…they have enemy on their soil and are defending themseleves to this day. Israel was attacked on october 7th…a horrible attack… And even how horrible it was, it was ONE day. Since October 7th Palest1ne has been the onder constant attack with thousands of casualties and it is Israel that is on Palestinian soil, and not the other way around. Israel went fast… Read more »

You probably didn’t understand – Ukraine should remain in the contest and so does Israel. The attack might have been one day (it was a bit longer, as it took some time to get rid of all terr0rists who invaded us), but it’s not over for us for 3 reasons, 2 mainly. The Kibbutzim near the border are still destroyed with many have no permanent home, and same goes for the northern citizens who were evacuated because of Hezb0llah in Lebanon. Hmas are still willing to commit more attacks, so even if the threat isn’t in our borders, we can’t… Read more »

One day???? I follow the news here in Europe and they were not attacked just one day.
For almost 20 years hmas fires rockets at israel, then there was this big m@ssacre of 2 days, and until today rockets are fired at israel.
There are still many histages, including grandpas and young beautiful girls and women, held in dark tunnels.
Also there are rockets everyday from Libanon, Syria, Yemen.

Baby, I see you have a lot of free time for spreading hatred around. Good for you, but please don’t intrude us all with your opinion and obscenity against a young artists. Find a hobby, or read credible sources, you brainwashed t3rr0rist supporter. Write a song and send it to Hms organisation to consider representing a non-existing country.

Situation is getting a bit out of control I have to admit. I can see the references to the Nova music festival that H@mas attacked (“Drowning in the sunrise My heart is so cold, but my soul is on fire Someone is calling from paradise”), but this is very subtle and unless the commentators explain this during the live show it won’t be easy to make the association. It’s very clear that EBU doesn’t want any even remotely indirect references to the current events and if Israel want to send a song about it -which is also pretty much obvious-… Read more »

At this point it just seems like EBU wants to disqualify Israel by all means. IMO none of the lyrics from either entry are political, any country could send those lyrics and have no issues. Maybe the ‘October rain’ title was the one linking it with the w4r. Either way I find the EBU quite unfair when it comes to their ‘no-politics’ rule. Ukraine and Croatia were allowed to participate in previous years with very political songs with no issues at all. EBU should set the same standard to every participating country instead of being permissive with some countries and… Read more »

When an event such as Oct 7 happened, titles such as October Rain and Dancing Forever are presented, they are obviously referencing the event. It’s so blatant. Nothing like Ukraine or Croatia.

“Sisters Crown” and “Mama SC” was on the same level as “Dancing forever”, there was no direct reference it was all metaphorical then “1944” although sung about 1944 it doesn’t take an educated person to guess that it was a statement in reference to Russias annexation of Crimea as it was sung not long after, “1944” was also a lot more direct and sinister in its lyrics “they come to your home kill your all and say we’re not guilty”

None of those songs were by the “agressor” candidate…. So that is why they got away with it. Also 1944 was a song about something that happened in 1944 and didnt refer to the annexation of crimea in 2014 specifically. If there had been a sentence like “and now history is repeating itself” in the lyrics then that would have been a different matter…

In that case was the UK and other western countries that went after Al Queada the agressor in the 00s, this is the same as what Isreal is doing going after a cowardly terr*** organisation, Palestinians unfortunately just happen to be caught in the middle of it and used by H**** as human shields.

So what? They are subtle references. You can’t expect the barbaric attack that happened in October to not affect a country and thus its culture. Culture always reflects context in which it is created.

By this logic Rise Like a Phoenix should’ve been disqualified as political. It’s an absolute nonsense.

Eurovision is about unity and peace and love for music… This is why they have accepted songs about peace and anti war songs in the past… But when songs are blatantly referring so a recent or ongoing conflict or war, and that from the agressor part then it is WRONG and in breach of the rules. As the situation is right now, Israel is the agressor, not the victim anymore. Israel is in all control and there is no equality. So sending songs that is about how horrible it is for poor israelis would be tasteless…. I am sorry, but… Read more »

Didn’t the Israeli broadcaster make it clear that it would not amend ‘October Rain’ to comply with the EBU’s rules. That lasted all of two minutes.

I think they said they had two songs – both recorded by Eden. This is the second one. But yeah they did proclaimed they’re not changing anything. Except an entire song it seems.

You’re mixing up the timeline. KAN sent both songs to the EBU, then EBU disqualified ‘Dance forever’. But in the meantime, KAN had decided to go with ‘October Rain’ anyway. And as far as that song is concerned, the EBU still has to make a final decision.

Tbh between the two October rain is the most direct and if the more subtle forever was rejected it doesn’t leave much hope for October rain
