Broadcaster RTVE has issued a statement saying they have requested the EBU ensure freedom of the press following the harassment of a Spanish journalist on site at Eurovision.

Creator and founder of Spanish media company Bluper, Juan Ma, posted a video to X in which he discusses the harassment he has received from Israeli journalists in Malmö.

In the accompanying caption, Juan Ma elaborates that he was approached and intimidated by a number of Israeli journalists following comments he made on the ongoing crisis in Palestine.

“In eleven years that I have been covering #Eurovision I have never felt so unsafe at the festival.

“Several Israeli journalists have decided to intimidate and scold me for having shouted #FreePalestine after the Isra-hell rehearsal. They are not going to scare us.

“They are not going to silence us.”

This incident was taken to Spanish broadcaster RTVE. They have decided it was a serious breach of press freedom and have taken the matter up directly with the EBU themself.

In a statement from RTVE’s communications team, the delegation have stipulated that organisers of Eurovision must go further to ensure journalists covering the contest are able to do their job fully without fear of badgering and harassment.

“The Spanish delegation from @eurovision_tve has conveyed to @EBU_HQ its commitment to freedom of the press and opinion and has demanded that @Eurovision ensure its respect.”

Senior news anchor of Israeli broadcaster Kan confronts Dutch delegation

The ongoing tensions amongst staff, journalists and delegations at Eurovision 2024 were highlighted further on Friday in a video posted by Israeli broadcaster Kan.

The footage shows senior news anchor Dov Gil-Har confronting Apson, who joined Joost Klein on stage as part of his performance of “Europapa” in semi-final two. He provocatively asks the performer why the Netherlands did not appear at the afternoon rehearsal for the grand final.

A security guard with Apson requested the journalist to leave Apson alone. However, Gil-Har repeatedly pushes further whilst filming the confrontation.

Freedom of speech is only when you want to bully the jews isnt it?
Because it’s coming from the same people who wanted to silent and banned the Israeli entry…

The best thing that could happen was all countries withdraw with only Israel remaining, they can have the show and celebrate with Maroccan oil.
A new start, with a fresh collective owned company with the big 5 sharing the responsibility with only european countries participating, leaving all the warmongers out.

I think that if Israel would have made some statement (supported by the EBU) already when it was decided that they would participate, it could have made a huge difference. Something like: we are very aware of the devastating situation in Israel/Palestine, and we mourn all the innocent people being sacrificed on both sides. We wish that this years eurovision could work in the favour of ceasefire and peace for the people of palestine and israel.

To just walk blindfolded or ignorant through this event is very irresponsible EBU.

The black hand of EBU reappears as usual in recent years and is incapable of making the most coherent decisions. I am convinced that the high number of votes iZrael received is due to manipulation of the vote count database. A country that has the most advanced spy systems in the world has the perfect platform in Eurovision to try to clean up its painful image. It would be highly suspicious if he wins.

And also Zionist/pro Israel lobbies/organizations are urging people to do likewise and it is not a rumour. A number of Far-Right parties/organizations like Tommy Robinson’s EDL and Britain First in England were actually set up and financed by Israel itself to promote Islamophobia. Israel vies a yearly budget running into millions each year to finance hasbara, propagandists and others (paying even university fees for students who support Israel using their social media).

Israel has done an enormous amount of damage to the ESC this year. Wherever that flat, nothing song places tomorrow, I don’t think true Euro-fans will ever forgive them for that. Eden IS there to sing. WHY was the journalist harassing her at HER rehearsal? Why should European participants stay home from EUROvision when all of the trouble is being caused by the presence of one country that isn’t even in Europe? Israel should have stayed at home this year. If they insisted on taking part, they should have done so quietly. But, no, they wanted to behave with their typical entitlement and bullying tactics. From sending a song that was declined by the EBU for being too political to the bots that have plagued the fansites. The journalist IS the one WHO harassed Eden. If you have a problem with the Israeli fans harassing you tubers who didn’t want to review Eden’s song, go speak with them, don’t hate Eden or her song. Eurovision IS a song contest, not a hate contest. By the way Eurovision is also open to non European countries, please educate yourself on that.

I think the fact that we’re talking about Israel is an indication that I know non-European countries enter ESC but given the RANDOM capitalisation of your WORDS, I realise I’m not dealing with the smartest person in the world. Eden’s song is dreadful. It sounds like something that would have been given to the UK winner’s of the X Factor in 2004. Her SF2 performance of it was also off-key. Supporting this song is political because it sure ain’t about the music.

None of these issues was caused by Israel. They sent an entry, performed it and didn’t even participate in most of events during the week. There’s not a one thing Eden done wrong. If people left Israel alone, it would just be another entry and no one would care. It was the constant bullying from some other people that causes all the drama (and likely Israel’s win which wouldn’t be even on the table otherwise).

You are joking. You do understand that if there’s no justice there can never be peace right? The children whose parents are now brutally murdered will grow up with even more hate and feelings of injustice. Otherwise you are just self-destructing and your government is at fault for that. Understand that for your own sake as well.

Since EBU is just licking Israel’s ego, for the lack of a better word, some countries should take a stance. I am not saying they should withdraw, even though its understabdable if they do so, but this drama need to be pushed back and 35 countries together can do that.

The drama was caused by the Chickens for KFC, not by Israel. If you guys haven’t spent months bullying Israel, they wouldn’t be one of the favourites to win.

Are people allowed to be critical of Israel or is any criticism anti-semitism? 🙂

You know who are also technically semites? Arabs.

Oopsie for you!

Oh because shouting “Free Palestine” is the pinnacle of antisemitism. Get a grip.

Why is shouting “free Palestine” freedom of the press but whatever the Israel reporters shouted back in response IS harassment??

Don’t you think there’s a difference between shouting something and having someone “approached and intimidated”, to quote the article?

Israeli people are genetically speaking not semite people. Arabs living in the Middle East are in fact semite people.

Today has been a soap opera, all caused by one country’s entitled attitude.

Europe needs to say goodbye to facism. We thought we did in 45, but we really didn’t.

I’m sorry but if Israel comes to ESC just to attack other journalists the same way they target journalists reporting in Palestine then they don’t even deserve the slightest bit of respect.

Who is Israel that you’re mentioning?

A bunch of Israeli journalist? Israeli nationals? Eden Golan? The delegation?

Please precise it.

I am so sick of the word “Israel” at this point. I don’t think they will make that word sound good any time soon. They really are just ruining ever thing where they show up. This is a terror.

What the hell is happening in Malmö tonight?! How one country can terrorize so many other participant countries at the same time? I mean ”Isra-hell” caption does not seem innocent but that video of Israeli anchorman kinda proves that the Israel delegation acts hysterically and create chaos left and right.

EBU is just a cheap prostitute sponsored by Israeli money (Moroccan oil). Thank you Joost for standing on the right side. You are a real winner!

EBU don’t care about human rights or freedom of speech…they don’t care about the means used to get to the finished product, we all experienced that back in 2012. The fact that people are loosing homes and worse doesn’t matter as long as EBU get their contest and the money involved…. EBU is putting the contest into disrepute at the moment.

The fandom has gone full on antisemetic at this point and they think they’re the good ones while being a bully

the „reporter“ harassed a 20 year old and behaved unprofessionally, and then went on to blame the Israeli delegation for „intimidating“ him, whatever that means, and he got his broadcaster involved after he intentionally started everything

and somehow this is all Israel’s fault here.
