Earlier this week, Roxen announced she would debut her entry for Eurovision 2021 on 4 March. That day has finally arrived, and fans are eager to hear what the Romanian star will perform at the contest. The official announcement of Roxen’s song will made at 20:00 CET on TVR1. However, a new song, titled “Amnesia”, has been released on streaming services under the singer’s official accounts as of midnight on the 4th.
Fans have begun speculating that “Amensia” could indeed be Roxen’s entry for Eurovision 2021. It is possible that the Romanian star’s team accidentally set the release of her Eurovision song to midnight local time, rather than coordinating with the time of the official announcement.
But, we’ll have to wait until the official announcement later on for confirmation of this.
Roxen releases new single “Amnesia”
Roxen has been one of the Eurovision 2021 acts that fans were most excited to hear from again after her popular offering in 2020, “Alcohol You”. Should “Amnesia” be her song for the contest this year in Rotterdam, then Roxen could have provided the goods once again.
“Amnesia” features her famous raspy tones, with a slice of modern and stunning energy. The vocals fit perfectly with the tone of the song. Roxen’s youthful sound also contributes beautifully to the modern vibe of the song. Fans of her 2020 entry will certainly love “Amnesia” despite it’s differences.
As with “Alcohol You”, there is the same vulnerability and delicate nature to “Amnesia”. Both songs are extremely personal with their lyrics and brutal at times. The gentle sound to Roxen’s voice compliments the subject matter stunningly on both, with “Amnesia” providing a sensitive yet powerful moment once more.

What is Roxen’s “Amnesia” about?
“Amnesia” has the same dark edge to it as its predecessor, but isn’t as slow and feels more dramatic throughout with a pulsing heartbeat sound. The track begins with Roxen lamenting over her younger self, who was “shining like a pearl”. She “could push the night so far away”, and it becomes clear this isn’t the case anymore. Roxen has lost herself through trying to have it all and is longing to go back to who she was.
The tone is one of sadness and confusion, as she’s forgotten who she used to be – hence the title statement of the song. There’s a longing and pain in her voice, especially as the song builds into a thumping finale.
Roxen’s Eurovision journey
Roxen was due to sing “Alcohol You” at Eurovision 2020. Not long after the contest’s cancellation in March 2020, it was announced that she would be re-selected as Romania’s representative again for 2021.
In 2020, Roxen took part in a solo edition of national final Selecția Națională. Five songs were performed by the Romanian star, with the public choosing their favourite. However this time around, there was no selection, with broadcaster TVR internally selecting Roxen’s entry.
No doubt she’ll bring something special to Rotterdam now she finally has her chance to compete.

It is not that strong as last year’s ANTHEMIC song (for me at least). My 12p last year went to Alcohol you. This one is a quality song, mainstream, contemporary, not that catchy but a good staging (and vocals hopefully) might save the day.
Two listens into it I kinda like it. It’s strong. Maybe a bit repetitive. I’m not sure yet if I like it more or less that “Alcohol You”. Don’t get why some are that disappointed.
Definitely like this, especially after two or three listens. I think this could go top 5. Especially if they capture the power of the message with the staging, and if her voice is where it needs to be. This is really special.
I’ll admit I am a little underwhelmed, especially with the high quality of the songs last year. I’m surprised she didn’t go more on the “Cherry Red” route since it was a fan favorite last year (even though it didn’t win the national selection). I mean it is a nice song but nothing special like last year’s

The trouble I have with this song and video is that I really don’t get any sense of who Roxen is. Her outputs are very stylish but they’re stylised in a way that seems to mask her personality and makes it hard for me to connect with her and her music. This song’s lyrics reinforce this point for me, when they say that she is lost and longs to go back to a version of herself that she recognises.
It’s nice but that’s about all for now, might need to listen to it more.

I fell in looooove with the music video! Beautiful contemporary dancers mingling their bodies within each other and Roxen singing gently to it. With a similar staging this could work very well

VICTORIA is the one who had the good song in 2020 and Roxen is the one who has the good one in 2021.

If anything, this suggests that Victoria’s music makes you feel something and strikes a much stronger chord than Roxen’s.
There’s not much point comparing these two any more than comparing them with anyone else—they’re both talented girls with good voices—and don’t deserve to be pitted against each other by Eurovision stans.
It’s an ok song, but in the context of Eurovision this is pretty much chanceless in my opinion. It’s too dull for a song contest.

I think this song sounds/feels more mature than “Alcohol You”. It feels more perfected, and cohesive, and I love the subtle ways it builds up, without sounding like every other cheap song in Melodifestivalen. Whereas there were things in “Alcohol You” that I found annoying, I don’t find anything annoying in “Amnesia” and love the message of the song a lot more. It doesn’t feel cheesy, compared to other empowering songs, where you can’t help but cringe sometimes.

I expexted something more like ‘Wonderland’ or ‘Cherry Red’, BUT I didn’t like Alcohol You at all, so this is a big improvement for me and I like it quite a lot. It is one of the best entries not only for semi 1 but in general, at least for me.

Considering most Eurovision artists are one-hit-wonders (even most of the winners), so far the returning artists are making the most of their talents and the fact that hits as big as their last year’s entries come 2 or 3 times in a lifetime, and definitely not in a period of a year (unless you’re The Beatles or Joni Mitchell). The song is not bad.. But it needs some sound remastering. It sounds so one level, even on good speakers. There’s no contrast, lacks the oomph. Kind of like a half baked cookie.

I actually love it! Alcohol you was in my top 3 last year so that was gonna be hard to beat but Ive had this stuck in my head since the leak yesterday and it’ll probably grow on me even more! I hope she worked on her staging/vocal strength because the nf last year was uhm..yeah..but she has created awesome visuals over the year so I have faith!!
Roxen, darling. This song is really nice. I’m enjoying it. The first listen was a little underwhelming, but the second one was far better. She has a very beautiful voice and I can imagine magic on stage.

Alcohol You has the instant impact and feels you need on a Eurovision stage. Amnesia might be a grower but it misses something that sticks and it isn’t memorable enough for being on stage only once (or twice). Alcohol you was actually in my top 3 last year but I fear Amnesia won’t even be in my top 10… It’s sad cause Roxen is such an amazing artist. Let’s hope she’ll surprise us with something better tonight.

I heard it and it doesn’t had the same impact as others songs Roxen gave us. However, I do had the thought that – in relation to her Promo-Video – this is meant to be an Interlude between Roxen then and Roxen now and not the official entry. Therefore I do believe it’s a systematical prelude of today’s coming announcement.

Alcohol You was my favorite song for ESC2020. Amnesia is good but not in the same league. I really hope there is a stronger song selected for Roxen this year than Amnesia.

I hope this is not her song. I only listened to it once, so maybe it will grow on me. However, I don’t like it on my first listen which isn’t good. I liked Voila, Maps, and Tick Tock on my first listen for example. Alcohol You was my favorite song at ESC 2020 and I had high expectations this year.
