Sanremo may be a competition, but it’s also a celebration of Italian music. And Il Volo’s Gianluca Ginoble isn’t afraid to praise a fellow contestant.
During the group’s press conference at Sanremo 2024 on Friday, our own reporter Gianluca asked the group to name the most Eurovision-friendly of this year’s acts. Gianluca from the trio did not hesitate to praise “La noia” singer Angelina Mango.
“The most international is probably Angelina with the sound of Dardust, adding that extra touch,” he said, referring to one of the song’s co-authors.
Angelina is a huge favourite inside the press room to win it all.
She finished second on Night 1 (in an assement from the press jury) and she won Night 3 (which was decided by both the radio jury and public).
Gianluca also praised Mahmood for always representing Italy so well and Måneskin for helping to popularise Italian culture abroad.

Imo: Angelina’s sounds Italian, modern, catchy with a very original topic. And she delivers an amazing performance. Italy’s chances will be very high if she goes to Eurovision as she can get both jury and televote good results.
I love Mahmood’s, but people would compare it to Soldi and consider it as something already seen in esc. Annalisa could be a great option too, but not as successful as Angelina, I think.
Need to mention here Loredana and Irama as I hope they make it into the top3/5 too.

Why no love for Geolier? I think thats a more fun song/performance than Annalisa.She hot but too stiff. Angelina seems like the best choice for me though.
Damn when will people finally understand that « Eurovision-friendly » doesn’t mean anything. They hear something vaguely uptempo and believe it’s the perfect song for ESC. My bet on Angelina is that her song would be lost among all the female uptempos this year. Irama or Mahmood would stand out WAY much more in Malmö.
I prefer both Mahmood and Irama, but Angelina is good too and it seems she´s the only options to avoid Geolier,

Good old rigged Italy. The worst performance winning today and everybody knows it. Everybody knows. Welcome to finishing last at eurovision Italy. The crowds reaction saids it all.
Let’s face it, Geolier wins Sanremo, but my bet is that he says “no” to Eurovision and that Angelina Mango by finishing 2nd gets the ticket to Malmo. To me, Geoliers face after winning tonight screamed Andreas Kümmert.
How does he win if the public vote in the south that has championed him also has Mango on their cards plus the jury would never actually put his song first right?
I love Angelina and it’d be fantastic if she won Sanremo and represents Italy at ESC someday. She’s a fantastic performer with a beautiful voice, but her song doesn’t do it to me (it’s not bad at all, but it feels a bit flat and middle-of-the-road), she’s way better than her song.

It’s a bloody good song and Angelina gives it great sass. But I think Mahmood or Annalisa would indeed be better choices in terms of Italy’s Eurovision result. However, I’m starting to warm to Mango but I reckon her song should have been more of the type of thing Spain should have sent.

The quality of the whole of Sanremo is undisputed, but to me La Noia feels like a mid-table song, maybe top 10, but not a contender for the win.
I agree, but Angelina herself sparks some kind of obsession with translates to votes. The power of performance.
Agreed. This could either flop and get 20th or below or do really well but not quite good enough.
What is Eurovision friendly these days anyway, considering we have lots of genre diversity in the contest recent times compared to many years ago
I don’t know what Eurovision-friendly is supposed to mean but maybe his views on the contest got badly influenced by losing to something like Heroes which is fully understandable.
If Angelina were to win, Dardust would have 2 songs in the contest seeing as how he also co-wrote Tali’s entry “Fighter” for Luxembourg
At least Madame would finally have a song of hers in the mix!
I think it would be in this case for the first time for someone who´s not from the nordic countries or a native english speaker as a composer with two songs in the competition.
