Ireland’s Ryan Dolan

With Irish broadcaster RTE ditching the mentor system and opening the Eurovision selection process to the public, we’ve already seen both Jedward and X Factor star Mary Byrne express interest in singing for their country in Vienna. And there’s another name to add to the list – 2013 contestant Ryan Dolan.

“Only Love Survives” may have come in last place with a mere five points, but the Irish cutie is keen to learn from his Malmö experience and give it another go. He explained to his Facebook fans:

RTE, the Irish state broadcaster, is certainly interested. At the recent Eurovision Live Concert in Portugal, Ryan told us that RTE asked him if he had any interest in submitting a song in 2014. He declined because he did not have the right song at the time.

While his performance in 2013 may not have done so well, Ryan has kept busy, releasing singles “Start Again” and “Fall to the Floor” earlier this year and performing at the Eurovision Live concert in Portugal. There’s no denying the lad has talent!

Would you like to see Ryan Dolan return to the Eurovision stage? Or was his last placing in 2013 an unforgivable result? And if he returns, should he bring his oily dancers from Malmö?

I want to see Ryan Dolan back at Eurosong 2015. He might not win this time around. But the director for his video for ”Start Again” Ovie (NOT from Romania.) is an all round talented individual and he is (according to Eurovision Ireland.) a great Irish talent. So, with that in mind, I think I would like to see both Ryan Dolan and Ovie take part in Eurosong 2015. 😀

@Chris It doesn’t matter. For example, Spain maybe got e.g 2nd place in Albania’s Jury and something decent in their televote and managed to achieve 8 points from Albania. On the contrary, Ireland as it shows, placed just outside the top 10 in the televote in every country, but the jury ranking was even worse so it didn’t help them achieve more points. This probably occurred to every country and so even though Ireland placed higher than Spain almost always, Albania’s rankings were enough to help Spain place higher.

I would love to have Ryan back with ballad like “Start Again”. “Only Love Survives” deserved so much better placement, but I think ballads are more suitable for Ryan.

This guy was robbed in Malmö in 2013, only love survives was a powerful club track which soared on the iTunes Charts across Europe following the contest, granted his performance was very wooden especially considering it was a dance track, but still he should have managed a top 10 placing.
As for returning in Vienna, I’m not so sure, returning artist don’t usually do better again and considering this placed last, I can see Ireland staying In the semis again if he does return, hope I am proved wrong though

“Start Again” proved that he can be a more serious artist than “Only Love Survives” showed us. The biggest key for him is to keep most of the melody in a part of his vocal range where his voice can sound full.

Despite loving omly love survives I always feared that it would do badly in the jury and it did in the end, if he can just be put together with a song that is jury friendly and no mess up like he did in the jury final in 2013 then he could do well.

NO. Average singer. Average song last time… Love everyone. Dance. Not to mention the singers… Over-worked-out, half-naked drummers… Yeah? It’s past that age now, we want to start seeing current music from current artists! What make’s him think he’d do better 2nd time round?

Neither Ireland or Spain deserved to be last in 2013. The absolutely dreadful Lithuania or Romania should’ve gotten that “honour”. I don’t think Ryan should return though, I don’t like when artists return to the contest.

He got last because the split result was only the average rank of each country .

I will never understand how he got last place. Nevermind the fact that Spain got last in both jury and televoting; Ryan placed 14th in the televotes and 23rd with the juries, how does that even add to last place especially when Spain was in last?? Ryan should definitely try again, he is very talented and would do well.
