The six-week Melodifestivalen marathon is over for another year — and Mello fans can now breathe deeply and regroup. As they do they’ll surely remember the wind machines, schlager, one pulsating purple heart, one song being disqualified, another being accused of plagiarism and questions over how to define the “YOUniverse”. To help you cope with the transition back to daily life, we’ve pulled together 20 GIFs that sum up the life of a typical Melfest fan during February and March. In the words of Ace Wilder, “Don’t worry. It’s alright.”
Twenty signs you’re a Melodifestivalen fanatic
1. When you and your friends hear that your favourite song has gone direkt till final, you’re like…
2. But when your other favourite doesn’t even make it to Andra Chansen…
3. Thankfully there’s always another heat. This is what happens the moment your preferred underdog defies the odds (and the Twitter-sphere’s shade) and makes it to the final…
4. But inevitably you lose another favourite…
5. You just wanted to let that special someone know you care, so you were all…
6. Sometimes you’re sitting in your car and you start swerving off the road when Dolly Style comes on…
7. The night before Valentine’s Day all you wanted to do was watch a Melfest Semi Final, but when you went home you found your significant other was waiting for you with roses and some sex…
8. When you are trying to watch Melfest online and your stream starts lagging…
9. And then there are those days when you’re trying to watch Melfest but there are six other national selection shows on at the same time and you’re struggling to keep up…
9. When — after six weeks of doing nothing but eating and watching Melfest — you realise that your body is looking seriously out of shape…
10. And this is what you feel like two weeks after Melfest when you’re trying to get back to top form…
11. You know exactly how to make an entrance…
12. Sometimes when you’re walking down the street with your iPhone playing, you go all…
11. You need a stiff drink just before the results are announced…
12. When you realise that they’re not about to reveal the results and there’s actually an interval act on…
13. When you don’t understand the hype surrounding the bookies’ favourite you get all…
14. When you suddenly like a song that you hated before…
15. When every Eurovision fan seems to hate a song you love…
16. And when you don’t live in Sweden but you’re desperately trying to encourage Swedish people over social media to vote for that song only you love…
17. Sometimes you deliberately mispronounce Swedish words…
18. And in an English accent…
19. You can describe in detail the underpants Samir & Viktor wore during their heat in Gothenburg…
20. …and the final!
Do any of these apply to you during Melfest season? Let us know in the comments below!
The best ones are the 2 numbers twelves…..of Isa and Krista….
Number 2: me with Mimi… My winner of Melfest… :'(
I love MelFest…even I understand half of what the hosts and intervals are saying (not a Swedish speaker here).
Eesti Laul is way better than Melfest. Estonia has so great variety of the songs in the competition. Basically something for every taste. But Sweden just has 12 same songs in a row. Frans only won because it was only song that stood out from the rest because it was different. But everybody probably likes it because it is very expensive show.
Number 13 was on point. It was so true this year. 😀
LMAO about Lynda Woodruff..! 😀
Melfest is great! Fun, good songs, good production, good concept, good hosts… It’s so amusing! 6 weeks you look forward to the weekend to watch it XD. And of course is the most talked about by Wiwibloggs when it’s the best National Selection for Eurovision..
I find this year’s Melfest amusing tbh. The whole package is very entertaining because of the program and the performances. But I don’t like how the show and the broadcaster are over exaggerating on trying to capitalize on Frans’ song and performance after him being announced as a finalist in MF grand final and the winner of the whole show. Sweden of course has the rights to do that because it’s their contest and the fact that they are hosting this year. But it’s getting too annoying given all the spamming publicity. That’s it. It makes other news about other… Read more »
Ace is extremely GIF-friendly – so many great moments to capture in a couple of seconds!
Is in that glass box all number from 1 to 26. When Sweden draw number 9, men wiht microfone in hand have paper with number 4. See video on 01.08 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXtjMN66OjY
I think most of the countries take ESC seriously, but for these reason I think all of them should have the same opportunities in this website. Just an opinion. Not hating Sweden at all but remembering there are 42 countries more
the only part of the show I liked is #17 and #18. the same thing with Slovenian NF where Klemen Slakonja performed better songs than participants.
This whole anti-Frans is so like being 10 years old again and refusing to let some kids playing with you for some pathetic reason … for heaven’s sake, it’s just a song competing who cares … aren’t there more relevant issues to be worried about or in this case to be angry about? And there are other 42 songs in ESC this year so … really? Seriously? Lord …
Samir & Viktor on fleek! 😉
People are so jealous of MF and Frans. Do not hate Sweden for taking ESC seriously.
U are all fools..
And yet, no memes of Frans.
Is he really that boring? 🙁
Could someone please explain the purple heart? It was very confusing because I just watched the final and had no idea what the point was.
Loved this! Lots of fun! The Ace pics are well..ACE!
For those complaining about Melfest posts just don’t click on them. They put on the best NF show so tough tiddies
@jr esc nl haters doesn’t read this post. The problem is that we want more posts about other countries and not only Melodifestivalen posts 24/7.
The only feeling i have about Melodifestivalen is hate and boredom. STOP POSTING THINGS ABOUT SWEDEN.
What’s this? Wiwimelodifestivalenbloggs? Wiwiswedishbloggs? Is it Sweden sponsoring this website?
“16. And when you don’t live in Sweden but you’re desperately trying to encourage Swedish people over social media to vote for that song only you love…” – what it have to do with Ruslana who is clapping to Jamala(?) during Ukrainian semi-final? are you trying to pick up on the color of our flag?
that animation on cover image makes me think I’ve been redirected to wrong site. is it still site about ESC?
Can all the haters please shut up? Nobody is forcing you to read this post -_-
LOL I am so digging this “out-of-spite” mentality. A bunch of people keep complaining about the dominance of Sweden on this site and what’s the next article they come up with? Duh! A random totally random list about how people can tell they are fanatic about the Swedish national final. I didn’t even bother reading this article as I am only visiting this site for the real news, but the title really made me laugh. It’s so funny how easily you can annoy some of those crazed Euro-nerds. Go ahead and keep on shoving Sweden down their throats. I for… Read more »
Please, in the next few days or whole week, make 14-15 another posts about Sweden and Melodifestivalen. Please.
Thanks.
logx
It reminds me of Denmark staging in 2010.
Sweden is the host of eurovision….so it is perhaps not surprising that Sweden gets much attention
Finally, a Swedish related post that does not talk about Frans.
