On Tuesday evening, Iceland decided its top 15 songs of Eurovision 2020.

The top 15 were revealed in a special episode of the Icelandic Eurovision introduction show Alla Leið, led by the country’s Head of Delegation Felix Bergsson. These were chosen by a mixture of votes from the public as well as Alla Leið panellists.

The “final” will air on Thursday, during which Iceland’s favourite song of Eurovision 2020 will be announced.

Here are the 15 finalists. And, as all Eurovision presenters would say, “This is in random order”.

Iceland’s top 15 Eurovsiision 2020 songs

  1. Denmark – Ben & Tan -“Yes”
  2. The Netherlands – Jeangu Macrooy – “Grow”
  3. Germany – Ben Dolic – “Violent Things”
  4. Russia – Little Big – “Uno”
  5. Italy – Diodato – “Fai Rumore”
  6. Azerbaijan – Efendi – “Cleopatra”
  7. Malta – Destiny – “All of My Love”
  8. Switzerland – Gjon´s Tears – “Repondez Moi”
  9. Romania – Roxen – “Alcohol You”
  10. United Kingdom – James Newman – “My Last Breath”
  11. Bulgaria – Victoria – “Tears Getting Sober”
  12. Sweden – The Mamas – “Move”
  13. Austria – Vincent Bueno – “Alive”
  14. Norway – Ulrikke – “Attention”
  15. Lithuania – THE ROOP – “On Fire”

You’ll notice that Iceland’s own Daði og Gagnamagnið is missing from the list. That’s because the show is aiming to discover where Iceland’s 12 points would have gone if Eurovision 2020 was going ahead. And, of course, Iceland cannot vote for itself.

Tuesday’s show also jogged down memory lane and reminisced about some unforgettable moments in the history of Eurovision from both at home and abroad.

This Eurovision pre-party show also marks the start of a Eurovision week in Iceland, which also includes home concerts with Daði, re-runs of some beloved past Eurovisions, the broadcast of “Europe Shine a Light” and of course the celebration episode “Okkar 12 stig”. The last one will have a televote and reveal which country would have received the infamous “douze points” from Iceland.

No Israel is a bit surprising to me. Otherwise Lithuania, Norway, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria and Germany are here, so this list seems pretty fair to me!

Well if you use the RUV app (Android or iPhone) there’s a “search” button in the bottom right corner, just type or C&P “Alla Leið” and it will take you right to castable episodes.

Most Baltic and North Sea/Atlantic countries, curiously, on the list. Cleopatra in this top doesn’t sound serious (sorry!)
No other type of entry should beat well-round musical quality: Switzerland and Italy.

UK in the Top 15 looks promising. So disappointed that Eurovision isn’t happening and all my love and best wishes go to everyone in the hope they keep safe, but I’d love to have seen if the UK would have got a better result due to the change in the selection process.

We know, but we still weren’t expecting Denmark to be named first. That’s how starved we are of excitement these days!

As partly Faroese and Icelandic I know this;) Denmark and Iceland have of course close cultural bands, Denmark also used to rule over Iceland. But I wouldn’ t still call them directly neighbours in the strickt geographical term, not more that United Kingdom and the Netherlands then (which are also qualified). Probably split opinions about this question:)
