Guten tag! They’re the acts both hoping to repeat the winning success of their nations earlier this decade at Eurovision 2017 this year. And last night Germany‘s Levina and Austria‘s Nathan Trent went head-to-head on Schlagercountdown – Das große Premierenfest to see who has the best Eurovision 2017 song, with Nathan Trent and Levina duelling it out for public votes.
Levina performs “Perfect Life” at Schlagercountdown

In the end Levina came out on top.
Although she was performing in the round, with the crowd on every side of her, the real shapes being thrown were triangles: The screens and the LED floors were giving us some serious Barei flashbacks from Stockholm.
Not content with a pyro-wall, homegirl had a pyro square, with sparks flying all around her as she reached the climax of “Perfect Life”.
Nathan Trent performs “Running On Air” live at Schlagercountdown
Everyone’s favourite blue-eyed Austrian boy sparkled on stage with the help of glitter-rain and kept thing simple rocking a denim jacket for his stage outfit.
This performance lacked the pyro-rain, which might account for Levina’s win…but simple never goes out of style y’all. Interspersing the performance with clips from his video really drove up the charm of this performance and charm is going to be key in this connecting with audiences around Europe come May.
Although both performers would appear to be lipsyncing for their life, their performances show they have stagecraft and can bring it for big crowds which should stand them in good stead in May.
Both acts have a significant number of promo appearances ahead of them before they get to Kyiv though. Both will appear at the London Eurovision Party and Eurovision In Concert in April. Nathan will also be at the Madrid Eurovision Party.
Thimo Qwalle – ”I will laugh so hard when Levina will get a Top 19 Place Honestly you guys here are just riding on the Opinion of the Bloggers. I cant think of any other Reason why EVERYBODY on this Side here talks **** about the Song since Febuary 9th”
After 2 bad years for Germany, Europe expected more than just a decent song. Germany seems a country that wants to host, this is why the expectations were high.
@ SpirK – ” It’s the only happy sing along song this year along with Belarus ”
As genre / atmosphere, for me Austria is like Spain, Belarus is like Romania, and other positive songs : Norway, Israel, San Marino, FYROMacedonia, Moldova………
I am always stunned at the fact how pointless Florian Silbereisen’s shows actually are. German entries usually don’t see a major revamp (it was kind of a revolution when No Angels wore different outfits in Belgrade than they did in the national final). I remember Gracia’s only revamp being additional fringes on her leather jacket, which was actually a news Story back then. However, before 2009, Germany was always one of the last entries to be selected (very close to the deadline), so there simply was no time for any changes. Nowadays the German finals are much earlier, so I… Read more »
Libsync in this ‘schlager’-events is usual. It’s a matter of production cost and the majority of the 60++ auditorium of the shows of Mr. Silbereisen doesn’t recognise the difference.
Actually I think they revampted the song already and got rid of most of the Titanium similarity that spawned fron the almost identical musical arrangement. The remaining similarity is in the song structures itself, very difficult to remove.
Btw it doesn’t seem lile Levina is showing any signs of revamping Germany’s song entry….
Um of course Levina wins. The show was held in Germany right? Local/national pride prevails. Just like these ‘bookies favorite’ rankings(mostly done by locals who are proud & happy with their own country’s entry)
I’m sorry, but was there any sense in this show? 😀
Ah, so I can still spot lip-syncing after all! 🙂 Very good.
From the article: “This performance lacked the pyro-rain, which might account for Levina’s win.” – So now voters just go “wow” at a pyro-rain and vote for that, completely ignoring the artist and the song? Hmmm. That is at best an over-statement, and at worst just not true.
Since it was lip-syncing, I don’t have an opinion on who was musically better. Zero points to both. Sorry.
I will laugh so hard when Levina will get a Top 19 Place
Honestly you guys here are just riding on the Opinion of the Bloggers. I cant think of any other Reason why EVERYBODY on this Side here talks **** about the Song since Febuary 9th
Back to Topic: The Idea with the Pyro is quite nice. Im really looking forward what the ESC-Version of Perfect Life will be like and what they will do with the Stageing to get out the most Points of it in Kiev
This is the only way Levina can win something.. Being in homeland and battling against only one song … Tragic.
I saw Nathan perform life on youtube. He had s great voice and was very charismatic. He might be a dark horse in May and certainly willqualify.
I think Nathan is a male Kasia in the terms of a whole package – voice, looks, charisma and a great song. Too bad Levina and him were both lip-syncing since I’ve heard them both live and they can sing. What was the point? Anyway, I predict Nathan pulling a Douwe Bob’s stage presence and Zoe’s likability in the semi and easily qualifying, even though it’s a really tough semi.

Maybe Austria 2017 is Malta 2013. Both singer have fake smile from start of song to the end of song. Same feeling I have when I saw France 2016 on stage like Malta 2013.
why were they both lip-syncing….I’m guessing they were asked to in the context of the rest of the show, but both can sing well live.
What did they expect with the German public voting!! If Levina didn’t even win in Germany then it would have been dire for her.
He is cute but his song is so average…Nothing stands out… Her song is awful… Nathan won’t pass the semi and Levina will be on bottom of the scoreboard… And that is a shame (for Nathan, he was so promising and he’s obviously talented). As for her…I don’t care. Germany should make a change. If you see sending 2 ladies in a row it’s not a good thing (ranking last) you send a 3rd one, with a boring as hell song? What was in their minds voting for her? Axel could have been a nice change for Germany (and obviously… Read more »
The German act won on a German TV show? Unbelievable. Stunned.
I hope Austria will be the surprise! I loved his lip-sync performance so much! Haha he’s so cute <3.
Nathan is this year’s Douwe.
Simple but good song.. and with a very charismatic performer.
Austria should qualify
I love Nathan! I really hope he qualifies.
In what world is Levina better than Nathan lmao
He clearly has to best package: Better song, voice, charisma, stage presence
What is even the point of lipsyncing? I really wanted to hear Nathan live for the first time
I’m telling you, Austria will qualify for the final easily, probably managing a top 5 result there and it has high chances of cracking the top 10 in the final. It’s the only happy sing along song this year along with Belarus, but one can connect to Austria’s song easier than with Belarus’ song. Nathan is also a charismatic performer who makes you smile. I’m getting Malta 2013 vibes from this one.
I think Nathan might actually make the final, seeing his charisma.
I watched 3 hourse of the show just for the acts. I think Nathan was better, but It was clear that Levina with the german public on her side. But It was a nice promotion for both acts 🙂
Nathan is SO cute in this performance. I enjoyed it very much 😀
Levina has a nice voice and seems like a very nice person, but the Titanium riff at the start of the song is killing it for me. Why can’t they just get rid of that pointless rip-off intro?
