It briefly soared to the top of the odds on the eve of its national selection. But in the days since, the bookies have started to go cold on Australia. As the land down under drifts, Italy regains its position as the bookmakers’ favourite to win Eurovision 2020.
And that’s not the only change. Several more bookmakers, including Paddy Power and Betfair, have opened their Eurovision markets in recent days. This means that we’re starting to get a more coherent view of the odds.
Instead of random outliers like the UK and Ireland hovering near the upper-end, we now have Malta, Norway, Czech Republic and others soaring up the table.
Eurovision 2020 Odds: Italy favourite to win — 10 February
After briefly slipping to second in the onslaught of Eurovision — Australia Decides 2020 hype, Italy is back on top.
It too selected its representative at the weekend with Diodatao being crowned the winner of Sanremo 2020 in the early hours of Sunday. Oddschecker is now listing odds as low as 6.0 for “Fai rumore” to win in Rotterdam.
Other Eurovision 2020 betting favourites
Also on the rise is Sweden. Its odds appeared to take a knock when the early Melodifestivalen 2020 favourite FELIX SANDMAN failed to qualify directly for the final. But after a series of barnstorming female-led performances, the Scandi-nation is narrowing its odds once more.
Its numbers have tightened from 12.0 to 8.0, as Anna Bergendahl, Hanna Ferm, Dotter and The Mamas rank among those tipped to win.
Next is Russia. Despite revealing almost nothing about its 2020 plans, bookies seem be certain of another strong performance. It can be backed at 8.0.
As mentioned, Australia has fallen to fourth. Despite slipping slightly, favourable odds can still be found for a Montaigne victory, with some outlets offering 8.0.
Norway is a new entry in the top five. It will select its champion on Saturday. On Monday, it published the Melodi Grand Prix 2020 running order. And it wouldn’t take a betting expert to suggest that it might be a good idea to back a Ulrikke victory. “Attention” occupies a pimp slot in the line-up.
The top ten is completed by Denmark, Malta, Iceland, Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

why is everybody taking this so serious….it’s OBVIOUS that we still need to hear all the song to get a proper judgement
Well Italy sends a typical Italian song, nothing new…
Exactly like last year, true ?
Well Italy is always on top of the betting odds. Raphael G., Il Volo, Gabbani, Mahmood were all predicted as the sure winners at least some point… and then? Then Occidentalis Karma gets 6th.
Only Gabbani was predicted as the winner, Il Volo and Mahmmod were strong contenders, Gualazzi was a dark horse…
He deserved to be the winner or at least top 3
Last year it was predicted winner Duncan Laurence
I explicitly wrote “at some point” which means that at some point during the betting season, Italy was number 1, even if just for a few days. The same is gonna happen this year.
Weird to say, Mahmood has never been first
This is too early to start putting down bets when there’s are only six songs released now! Wait until they are all released.
Malta will probably become favourite when the song is released so take the 12/1 now if you want to have a bet. It’s now or never for Malta.
30 years since Italy last won, 10 years since Big5 last won. Might be good omens.
Nobody take seriously the odds yet but one week before the final everybody goes to look every 5 minutes how go the odds, 🙂
OMG, idan raichel(performed in the final as interval act) and doron medali(the composer of toy) wrote a song for eden alene(israel representative).
i’m sure this song will be selected although i didnt hear it yet.
This must be a “bomb”.
Go eden, this is your year
Wow! Doron also composed Golden Boy and Made of Stars! So the song must be amazing! Can’t wait to hear it.
im more excited about the fact idan Rachel is involved in composing the song. he is a mega star in israel and around the world, much more talented
Why did he mime at the interval act last year? I loved the song, though.
Italy overrated… adn Norway top 5, why?? Just an average ballad. We coould talk about a top 15 but a win is way too much. I think these odds has more to do with past years placements than this year real options.
last year he won a trivial song from the Netherlands from sleep …. Italy brought with mahmood a sound 10 years ahead for Eurovision compared to the usual dance songs with special effects but he didn’t win ….. in the last few years we have tried them all without ever getting anything …. so it is right to go back to our origins of the real melodic song ….. to win elodie would have been like bringing back mahmood .. and what purpose? we would not have won the same …. and Sanremo which is the Mother of the Eurovision… Read more »
Odds don’t really mean much when we only have 4-5 songs (with some of them still being revamped).
Really? It’s boring af
….and Gabbani was first but in the Grand Final he got 6th place….
So, Odds are useless !
Nobody is saying that this is going to win. By now someone is betting on it, latter maybe not anymore.
By the way I woudn’t mind at all if he reaches 6th place
What you’re forgetting, Fan, is that Gabbani was overtaken as favourite by Sobral before the 2017 contest. And then Sobral won. So not useless after all.
Funfact: Diodato, the Swedish dj Sebastian Ingrosso (“Swedish House Mafia”) and the former Esc contestant Benjamin Ingrosso are cousins. In the compilation lounge of Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello “Beirut café Stokholm” (2002) there is a song sung by Diodato, who lived for a while in Stokholm at the beginning of his career.
Fun facts! Who could believe that?
Yes !

Why is sweden second? we have not even chosen a song yet..
Sweden is an ESC powerhouse so the assumption is that they’ll have a great song
The assumption is also that the juries will give them a million points for just being Sweden.
No one should take the odds seriously but it’s fun. My favourite at the moment is Italy so it feels great to be validated.
Italy is my favorite too so far. I think of how Italy spent almost the whole season at number 1 in the odds in 2017, and then finished 6th. I do think rising in the odds (especially to number 1) after the release of your song indicates strong positive reception and good chances of placing well, though obviously no guarantee of a win. Still I have a good feeling that Italy will be a contender again this year.
Russia at #3 is clearly too low.
Russia is the clear winner <3
Last year you also told us this a thousand times but Russia did not win….
but in the end, they didn’t.
You’re back!!! Yaaasss!! LOL
No kidding. That live performance of Montaigne looked like 4th graders were given 20 minutes to write a song and stage a school play (only even less professional). I’m assuming they will change everything and will still qualify, but not surprised the bookmakers are walking away from that.
I don’t think Australia will qualify with that performance. They must change it completely to have a shot.
well not like the odds matter much with only six songs out, but it’s good to see ppl have faith in italy doing well. don’t think we’ll win, but our top 10 streak should be safe with diodato.
Its just so sad Latvia is so low. I hate odds. its only fun when the songs are chosen.
it’s a clear nq lol
Clear? Nothing is clear at Eurovision!
It’s one of the best Latvian entries lol
It’s their worst of the Supernova era. Funny Girl and That Night weren’t the most dynamic songs, but they were respectable songs that had musical merit.
Agreed. It’s desperately trying to look edgy but it’s bland af. Latvia is in the weaker SF though so maybe it could place 9th or 10th and still sneak into the final (if the competition is weak). Next.
we see that after the GrandFinal! Latvia has more tricks prepared for ESC than IT sad guy. And pls note that no Latvian started this hate conversation!
I don’t see any signs of hate, people are just stating their opinions.
Also, I’m not Italian. And why is this about the “IT sad guy”? Every time someone will criticize the song from Latvia, you’re going to attack the representative of their country? Smart. Latvia has sent some great entries, this is just not one of them.
Weak? Everyone said that about Aminata in the beginning of the season in 2015 and she came 6th. so we will see:)
No one said that about Aminata, and she was doing great with the bookies too. Also, why do eurofans always have to resort to the same fallacious arguments? “X happened in 20XX, so Y will happen too in 2020”. Literally under every article.
put your Diadoto in Semi 2 and we`ll see who will qf!
Wow. Edgy.
“diadoto” would still qualify over that dated noise from latvia
i feel the exact opposite:)
“clear nonqualifier” lol you tell that to Belarus last year who was also at the very bottom of the betting odds.
Sneaked in as 10th qualifier by only 2 points, and crashed at the 24th place in the final. Is that an achievement now? Cause this looks like failure to me, and people were right to criticize it (it was terrible).
I don’t think it’s chanceless, but it’s definitely going that way…
Can we please all agree that checking odds this early provides no clarity. I mean, I’m pretty sure Albania went from 2nd last to 20th at some stage last week.
Further, Australia/Sweden/Italy/Norway all would have ample people betting on them due to their shows.
That being said, I still look at the odds on a daily basis, gotta do something for the next 100 days 🙂
Tbh I’m not really caring for any song that’s been selected so far, though I do like Diodato it’s still not that good for me, and I’m also not a fan of many of the national final songs. My guess is that the top 3 will come down to France, Belgium and Malta.
I wonder if the bookies realize that Bulgaria is back not just to play around?
The main reason why Italy and Australia (two songs that I’m sure won’t win Eurovision) are so high in the odds right now is because the bookies are taking into account their track records at Eurovision. Same applies for Russia and Sweden, whose entries we don’t know yet.
LOL Keep dreaming. He won’t win.
Nobody is winning on February lol. There’s still a lot to come.
It is just safe bet and it makes sense at this point. Juries might like this, a lot of televotings like Italian music (+ check Diodato on kworb).
Blah Blah Blah Don’t care about your rambling figures. The song is boring. Period.
If Italy had been a surefire ESC winner, you’d expect those odds to be about half what they are right now.
Suggests that either, a) we’re going to have an open field this year or b) our winner is still to come. 😉
Even if they would be half, you never know with odds. They can be so wrong. Keiino won televoting last year. Juries also usually have some surprises.
It’s not a Gabbani 2017 situation.
I R R E L E V A N T !!! STOP WITH THE ODDS
No
Agree
Amen!!!!
2:1 that they won’t
